We stayed here for 4 nights in January 2004, and regretted it!
In short, the place was a dump. Although it looks pretty decent from the outside, it is run down, dirty, and falling apart. The carpets were so soiled they stained our socks. The mattresses were stained and disgusting. The lights in the room didn't work properly. The in room safe was broken. The bathtub needed replacing. Our rooms were not made up until late in the afternoon, and once we were only given new towels and had to call the front desk to have the job done properly.
One night our room keys stopped working and we were locked out for over an hour. Although the front desk staff was friendly, they were not of much use. Their master keys didn't work (!?), and we had to move rooms.
Our second room was in every respect inferior to the first, and included a broken, noisy fridge and garbage on the floor.
A hotel staff member saw me in my swimsuit and advised me to not swim in the pool because it was too dirty.
The continental breakfast was usually gone by 9AM. It consisted of bad instant coffee, weak orange juice, a few oranges, and some shrink wrapped danishes and muffins.
This quiet area seemed safe, and we liked the location. It's right across the street from a small strip mall that has a news stand, a grocery store, a pizza place, a bus stop, etc.
Although the hotel is across the street from the beach, the public beach access is 4-5 blocks away. Airport cab fare was ~$20.
Even for the budget traveler (as we were), I think better options could be found for the price. We were glad to leave this Travelodge!
