“Decent, but not great”

Fort Lauderdale Marriott North

I am currently at the Marriott Lauderdale North for a 2-day business meeting. The cab fare from the airport was $35 before tip. Check-in was a breeze and front desk staff was extremely helpful, professional, and courteous. This is a typical standard Marriott, recently refurbished but no bells/whistles. Room service lunch was very prompt and tasty (ordered shrimp cocktail, fruit salad, grilled chicken). Pool on 4th floor was nice, but exercise facility was a disaster. Couple of treadmills, eliptical, and mismatch of free weights. Went jogging outside and came across several homeless individuals "camped' out nearby hotel. Walking distance to shopping center, movie, restaurants. Meeting facility was pretty nice, no problems but nothing out of ordinary. I will stay here again if in town for business, or night before a cruise. If I had my family with me, or was in the area for extended time I would go elsewhere.

“Great Place - Bad Coffee”

Fort Lauderdale Marriott North

This is a great hotel for business travelers. The only downside is the free coffee in the lobby. I've never tasted worse!
The rooms and staff are what you would expect from a Marriott business hotel.
I'm going back.

“Not Bad...”

Spent most of September in Florida for work. Was in FLL one weekend for a wedding. For the rate I paid, it's hard to complain. Was slightly apprehensive as the rate was so much lower than other Fort Lauderdale full service properties, but it turned out my worries were unfounded. Hotel is located in a business/suburban office park type area. Not the most exciting, but it was nice and quiet. Checked in late Friday night and ordered room service. No complaints.

Room was spacious (by Marriott standards) and clean. BEd was great, as they usually are at Marriotts. Nice HD/flat panel TV. Appeared that the room had been recently renovated, though there was not much to distinguish it from other Marriotts. Hotel did provide free wifi, which is great. Considering you can get free internet at almost any lower end property, it's nice to see a full-service property that's not trying ot nickel and dime you for every little thing.

The only bad aspect of the stay was the fact that the walls seemed to be really thin - it was easy to hear the people in the next room, as well as hearing almost anytime a door was slammed shut. Not a huge deal-though the group of girls in the next room on Saturday night was kinda loud. But, this certainly isn't a problem which is unique to this hotel.

For the price, we were quite happy with the hotel. Check-in was a breeze and the staff were very nice. The lobby is nice and very clean. The hotel has had a major facelift, and you can tell that they have tried very hard to make it look like an upscale hotel. The fact is, the paint job all over the hotel is shabby, and you can tell that they've just put a new face on an old hotel. Our room was clean, and the bed was great. We only stayed one night, which was fine, but if you're looking for a true 3, 4 or 5 star hotel, this isn't it.
Overall we had a very nice stay.

I was a little concerned after reading some of the negative reviews but did not encounter any of those problems. The hotel was clean, the bed comfortable, and the room nicely appointed. It was conveniently located right off of I95 and across the street from restaurants and a movie theatre. The only meal we purchased at the hotel was the breakfast buffet which was very good with a nice selection of hot and cold items and moderately priced. The staff and management were very nice and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.
