“The Dunes is fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2006

I stayed at the Dunes for the first time over Labor Day. I am very impressed. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The grounds and pool are very attractive and well kept. There's plenty of parking. The location near the beach is great and it is in one of the quieter sections away from ongoing construction. Best of all is the service, very friendly and attentive.

  • Liked — The rooms and grounds are clean, attractive and very well kept
  • Disliked — The wireless internet service had issues.

We`ve tried many of the gay bed and breakfast-style inns in this neighborhood, but this remains our favorite. While it may not offer the upscale amenities and style of some of its neighbors, this is still a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its, already lovable, parts. There are only 10 rooms here, so that along with the compact, lushly landscaped grounds, sparkling pool and spa, friendly clientele and amiable, low-key staff, makes for an intimate, romantic, relaxing, no attitude stay. Many couples return here year after year, but singles also appreciate the reasonably priced, special ambiance of this place. The rooms and studios are spacious and modestly decorated with exceptionally comfortable king beds. The 50`s-style tile baths are fun, well laid out and with good amenities. Bath and thick pool towels are abundant. It`s obvious that the owners are sticklers for exceptional housekeeping here. Everything is immaculate. You`re laundry will be done daily at no extra charge so packing lightly for your trip will be an added bonus. An expanded continental breakfast is also offered. We love this place and we don`t have to spend a lot of money for a memorable Fort Lauderdale vacation here. For those seeking another great value, don`t miss The Fort Lauderdale Ale House at 2861 N.Federal Highway.....excellent, well-prepared food, large varied menu, casual pub atmosphere, huge portions and ridiculously low prices.....another favorite of ours.

My partner & I just returned from Ft. lauderdale where we stayed at another property (the Palm Plaza) that offered us a deal we thought we couldn't refuse. Now we wish we had! The Palm Plaza isn't a dump but it's awfully close.

We stayed at the Dunes last September for several nights and had a great time. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable. (My only comment about the room is that the bathroom fixtures really needed to be replaced.) The manager was nice and we briefly spoke with the owners while they were doing some inspecting and measuring for improvements. They're the same couple that own The Dunes in Saugatuck, MI.

The grounds were well tended and the pool was very nice, spacious and immaculately clean. Hot tub wasn't bad either! They kept a fridge near the pool stocked with soft drinks, water and beer on the honor system. Nice!

Every morning the housekeeper asked us what laundry we needed done. He had it back in the room that afternoon and never charged us! Very nice!

On our most recent trip we drove past The Dunes to show a friend where we stayed on our last visit. It looks like they have installed a very nice looking new fence around the property.

In the moderate price-point category this is definitely THE place to stay in Ft. Lauderdale!

We just returned from nearly a week at our favorite getaway. Fort Lauderdale was hit hard by Hurricane Wilma, so we weren`t quite sure what to expect, but when we called several weeks before our arrival, we were assured that everything would be fine. Everything was more than fine. The grounds were newly manicured and more beautiful than ever. The staff and owners (welcome, John!) were more personnable, helpful and generous than ever, and the high standards of cleanliness have even improved, even though I thought they couldn`t have been better before. This is always a happy experience for us.....a truly relaxing and memorable vacation!

A close friend is so enamored of this guest house, that we finally gave in to his perpetual requests for us to try it out. Fortunately it all lived up to, and surpassed, the hype. Those who seek intimacy, peacefulness and gracious hospitality, at a surprisingly fair price, will be utterly charmed!

We were somewhat surprised when we arrived at our favorite place to stay in Fort Lauderdale, The Saint Sebastian, that the name and ownership of this property had recently changed. It is now The Dunes Guesthouse, but the new owners have the savvy and intelligence to keep things as they were at this beautiful, friendly, reasonably priced place. The Saint Sebastian had a large, appreciative and loyal following. They will all be pleased to know that in its new incarnation, this guest house offers the same relaxing, upscale, hedonistic vacation experience

We`re very glad we checked with Tripadvisor before booking a hotel in Fort Lauderdale. The 2 reviews below are accurate to a fault. Just spent 7 nights at The Saint Sebastian and couldn`t have been more pleased. It`s everything you`ll read about below and more. We couldn`t believe how reasonably priced it was. This is an astonishingly good value at $79 per night and the "summer special" gave the 4th night for free. A full week, for 2 of us, was just over $500 including taxes, fees, etc. A true bargain for gay men seeking beautiful accomodations, just up the street from the beach
