I read all the reviews of the Tropi Rock Resort, along with other hotels in the area, prior to booking. My husband and I stayed one night prior to boarding a cruise ship.

The Tropi Rock's owner/host (Mick), is indeed very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, with only a 2 minute walk until you toes will sink into the sand! We could see the ocean from our room (2nd floor end-unit). Coffee available on premise, swimming pool area secluded, but bottom of pool could use good scrubbing. Family friendly, restaurants within very reasonable walking distance.

Our room was large, clean, and decor was kitchy (sp?) All in all, pretty cute. I challenge anyone to find such good, reasonably priced accommodations so close to the beach for less than $100 per nite. We would stay again.

Folks, manage your expectations here. It's a very good 2-star motel. Clean, great location, friendly folks. If you demand Hyatt's or same, this isn't the place for you.

Stayed two nights at the Tropi Rock. Mick, the owner, was very friendly and accomodating. The room was decorated cute and the best part, clean. The air conditioner was somewhat loud and dripped over the entrance to the room. The bed was hard and the pillows like rocks. But like I said it was clean and fairly quiet to boot. The pool area is nice and tropical looking, although the whole outer area, pool and walkways could use a good power washing. I would recommend this place if you are on a tight budget and just want to hang out on the beach. Not within close proximity of too many restaurants and nightlife. Tropi Rock is OK in my book.

How does a clean basic room sound , except this one had flat screen TV, Microwave and refrig, all for a rediculous low price. Nice pool, small but nice, quiet setting. There's a free beach a short block away.
Additionally, there's a computer avail. for internet access and was made availavle for me to print my return e-ticket, paid a big $ .25 for the paper. Building gate is locked at 9pm, but a push button code is given at check-in. Can't wait to go back. GRT

We needed a place for one night convenient to a friend's art show. The Tropi Rock really seems set up for vacations rather than one night stays, but the host, Mick, was accomodating and friendly. My major criteria is a firm bed. The only room available had a king-size. We usually ask for twins or doubles because I toss and turn. Room 110's bed was firm enough that I didn't disturb my wife's sleep. No greater praise exists.

This is an older hotel that has been whimsically renovated. Every room has individual quirks, design and art. Ours had a two burner hot plate, microwave, refrigerator, dishes, etc. and everything one would need for a longer stay. The bath had a quirky handicap seat for the tub. It folds up against the wall and is held in place by a steel hook. If you bump it or jostle it, make sure the hook is secured or the seat might drop down, giving you a surprise.

All parking is around the perimeter of the hotel. The main entrance is secured at night by a door with a number-coded lock. Room doors have both deadbolts and handle locks.

This is a wonderful place to stay. It is a truly tropical oasis in the midst of Florida's surge to faux-glitz and highrise condos. The two blocks to the beach is a misnomer, because the blocks are super short, less than half the length of some city blocks elsewhere.

When I go back to Ft. Lauderdale, I'll want to stay at the Tropi Rock again and for a longer visit. It would be ideal for a home base to explore southeast Florida.

The Tropi Rock is an 80 dollar-a-night Motel, not Hotel, 2 minutes from the Ocean on foot. That's the draw. Everything in our room (bathroom included) except the T.V. and fridge was decades old. You get a window air that cranks up the volume. We don't go to Florida to hang out in our room, eat in our room, or stare at our room, so we just show up and hope for the best on an 80 dollar room. Our room was very clean and that was a relief. It stunned us that after 3 nights we never got a sore back from the bed. We lucked out on that.

We walked each night south from the motel street (Belmar) on A1A to the Beach Place, a little shopping-dining hang out. It's a mile down the road. Not a bad walk since it's a nice stroll along A1A at night. There is a Howl at the Moon(howlatthemoon.com), a Hooters, Sloppy Joe's, and a place called LuLu's there. A few shops to drop some cash here as well. Also an Irish Pub. Once we dicovered this area we walked there each night to finish our evening. It's got Live Music and dueling piano's for all to enjoy.

Walgreen's drug store is about 2 miles down to the north(from Belmar) on A1A, and you can find a full service grocery store (Winn-Dixie) about another mile or so past that on the right side of the street. This is good to know, because at this South Florida place, there is no ice machine.

Mick lived up to his reputation as a pleasant and courteous host and his place is in an excellent location no more than 15 minutes from FLL Airport. The pool was clean, but who cares when you're so close to 86 degree Ocean. It's a 2 star motel and it has 2 star motel prices. I am not knocking it, because just browse the list of hotels on this page and you'll see the price difference. I hope this review paints a much clearer picture for those who plan to visit the area.
