This is my second review of the hotel and will be less detailed than my first from a few years ago(2003). We'll I'm a few years older than the last time. I still think this place is a gem and a fantastic location to the beach but my back did notice the wear on the matress and a bit more noise this time and these are the reasons my rating is 1 step lower. This is one of the places I go to escape and drown in lifes simple pleasures. It's really like going to a comfy, cozy - grandmas house on the beach.. if you will. Yes, the shower drips a little, the walls are a bit thin and the mattresses are getting worn but outside of that it's great.

You feel like you are part of a really nice family and can ask the owners for anything, though they usually know when you need something and will offer it. Last stay we were given an unbrella to stroll around town as the dark clouds were rolling in. It's close to the beach, very tropical, inexpensive for the location and a joy to stay at if you can relax and enjoy the little things. If you're looking for a little adventure and can be forgiving of imperfections try it. When I want luxury, constant silence and perfect details I choose a corporate chain I'm familiar with or more upstale hotel. The point is you will either love or hate this hotel. Really think about who you are, your expectations and reasons for the trip. Then pick what is right for you.

I was so happy that I found this little hotel. The owner, Mick, made me feel like an old friend, and took time to tell me all I needed to know about the area to make my short stay as wonderful as possible. My room was great, right next to the lovely pool and lush gardens. Free parking just outside the hotel entrance. Excellent peaceful location one block from gorgeous beach. A gem, and very reasonably priced. Much friendlier and cozier than a chain hotel; would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great stay, TropiRock.

My wife and I spent 3 days at the Tropi Rock in mid August
of 2006. We enjoyed our stay there more than the 5 star hotel
in Key West the previous part of our trip. The family that owns
and manages the Tropi Rock are very warm and freindly.
We stayed in a room with a full spacious kitchen fully equiped
with cooking amenities. We loved the overall ambience of the
hotel artfully designed ,it reminded me of being back in the
Mexican Riviera.
By the way it sits just a half blosk from the beach making it
much quieter than being on the ocean drag.

This place was highly rated on this website. The hotel wore on me quickly. Most of the facilities appear to be from the 1960's or 1950's. It had some very unique decor, unusual lamps, paint schemes. Old paint peeling everywhere, the ragged on paint was chipped and or peeling, where it had been fixed it just looked worse so I think they gave up. The kitchen in our room had chips all around the handles, natty looking. I was outside the room, and came back to hearing my wife yell she couldn't get out of the shower - door was stuck off the track - when I showered I just didn't close the door. The pool is maintained about 8 or 10 inches below expected water levels, I guess to stop the tiles from falling off, this had already begun. The tennis courts looked like the nets were falling down. The office window has a giant crack that has been painted like a vine so its not visible. The best for last, the "gym" consists of some weights, a bench, a broken stationary bicycle and Chuck Norris' total gym and a glide rider thing. Mostly it looked like old stuff from TV shows found on the curb. The fan in there has a broken cover (dangerous) and most things are painted in an odd blue / white mix of paint, broken mirrors.
On the upside this place is 2 blocks from the beach (watch for broken bottles and old tires) and neighbors obviously much more expensive true resorts. The pizza place w/in walking distance is fantastic.

Mostly it was ok, just tiresome feeling and seeing everything was broken. The tables by the pool were the best example - nice little table and chairs about but they have this "rock" looking applique underneath - that is made of foam that is all falling/flaking off, so what was or should be nice and an addition turns out just to put you off. It was ok, but don't expect "modern".

  • Liked — Close to the beach and activities
  • Disliked — Outdated, maintenance issues
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you have to stay right at the beach and don't mind roughing it a bit and price is the only consideration, its ok.

I chose this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews. I wasn't disappointed. The hotel is exactly as described. The owner treats his guests as friends. Check in and out was a breeze. I loved our king bed room efficiency with kitchen and dining table with four chairs. The room is a nice size. Bathroom was a little outdated. Bed a little hard. Decor on the hotel and the room was very tropical. The hotel is very close to the beach. One block!

My boyfriend and I had dinner reservations at the Mai Kai Polynesian Dinner and Show. We had a wonderful time at dinner. Drinks and meals are a little pricey. Our bill with two drinks, two appetizers and two Lobster Cantonese entrees was $172, 20% tip included. We enjoyed our stay in Ft. Lauderdale and will stay at this hotel again with no probelm!

  • Liked — Large room. Close to beach. Great Price.
  • Disliked — Bathroom a little outdated
  • Tips/Secrets: — Stay here!
