Yes, the owner/manager was nice, but what about the room? Eeek. I wore my flipflops the whole time indoors. The sagging mattress, thin pillows, and thread-bare linens were not the bad part of the Tropi-Rock experience. It was the stained chairseats which screamed for CSI Miami's blue light. Morning coffee was not around until after 8:00AM so none to take on my morning walk through the dirty street on which the hotel is located (not hotel's fault - Ft. Lauderdale beach area is undergoing conversions to mega-condos so they are cutting their streetcleaning budget until makeover is done. Looks and smells bad.)

I rely on Trip Advisor members for selections of hotels so I feel you should know this is not the hotel to select for cleanliness. I enjoy funky, but my room was not a comfortable place to be.

I was there with my sister for 3 days, the place is great, and Mick was wonderful with us. They are open to help you at any time. Rooms are big and very clean, the pool is great if you don't want to go to the beach.... I was very happy with our selection and if I ever go back there I'll stay in the same place.

My mom and I stayed her for 4 nights after our return from a cruise. We were both hesitant as its a smaller hotel, and we'd have a bad experience with a large chain on the start of our vacation, but the Tropirock was wonderful. We were given access to lawn chairs to take down to the beach where we spent the majority of our time. Mick offered us ideas on where to dine and what to do, all within walking distance. The rooms are not luxury, but they are not poor either. We will definately be making the Tropirock our Ft.Lauderdale connection when we pass through again. Thanks very much for the great hospitality.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay near the beach, and that is your most important criteria, then this place may be okay for you.The rooms here are dark and dreary with old furnishings, and the bathroom is tiny with old fixtures as well. The pool is on the small side. This is an old 50's style motel in my opinion. Certainly not in the "resort" category.
