We booked a room for several nights based upon the Trip Advisor rating and reviews. We were pleased with the inexpensive price for the location although, as my wife commented, things were a bit frayed around the edges. Some amateurly repaired tiles in the bath, flimsy bedframes, and paper thin walls which convey even so little as the sound of a cough, yet the room was quite clean, the host was quite charming, warm, and cordial, and the staff went out of their way to help in every way asked. Next time I would prefer something a little more upscale, but my wife says she would stay there again. For example, I would prefer WiFi for my laptop in the room, rather than the two terminals near the office, but net access was free and speed was genuine broadband, so its hard to complain. Parking is limited, but the owner makes arrangements for those who arrive late at night. I would prefer a room with a view, but I am unfamiliar with what you get for the price nearby. Our experience was pleasant. Especially if you want to be able to walk to the ocean or arrive and leave at odd hours without paying for 24 hour desk service, this place would be great. It is not a 5 star resort. You get what you pay for. But for a well kept 1950's era motel with a pool, tennis, and friendly hosts, it is fully acceptable.

My husband and I stayed at the Tropi Rock for 1 night post cruise and we wish we could have stayed a week. We arrived at the hotel about 9:00am and we expected to be told our room would not be ready and to wait until check-in time - however, they were able to check us in right away and gave us a room. We were very grateful. The amenities included in our stay were unbelievable; free internet access, chairs for the beach, beach towels, pretty much anything they had around you could borrow. I have stayed at tons of hotels and you rarely see customer service this good. The pool was heated and felt great and the hotel is about 2 blocks from the beach so the walk is not bad. The room itself was nothing special, just the basics. I would absolutly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a laid back vacation in a great location. We will definitly go back next year.

I had a wonderful 8-day stay at the Tropi Rock. The rates were a good value and the friendly owners seemed to appreciate my business and went out of their way to make this a pleasant stay. I am laid-back, and my favorite activity was just sitting and reading under the palm trees at one of the pool-side tables, and taking an occassional swim.
There is free coffee, newspapers, wireless internet access, and 2 internet computers. There is also an amazing collection of VCR tapes for rent, along with snacks and drinks for sale in the lobby. Also some paperbacks to borrow for free. The hotel is in a quiet area in a neighborhood of others motels and apartment buildings, about 2 blocks from the beach across Rt A1A. It is about 1/4 mile walk north on A1A to some local eating places, bars and a few stores. A longer walk south gets you to a variety of more upscale places.
I found the unusual decor to be interesting and pleasant, a sort of Euro-Central American motif. The tile work was beautiful. This is a 1950's era building and may not meet everyone's standards. If you are harder to please in that respect, read the negative reviews also. For me, it was a happy time staying at the Tropi Rock.

We were scheduled to stay at the Tropi Rock on 11/5 post cruise for 1 night. Well since the hurricane hit Ft Lauderdale we weren't sure what their situation was so I emailed them and asked them to confirm their situation so we would know when we got off the ship if we had a place to stay. My friend who also booked with them (they had our names together because i told mick when i made the reservation who was traveling with us)got a phone message on the 3rd day at sea that her reservation was cancelled. We continued to call the hotel(When we had service) to see what was going on, we got no answer. We assumed the hotel was closed (no power, damaged, whatever)so we had to scramble the day we got into Miami for a hotel (no phone service till then) we ended up paying 229.00 for a motel. Now Tropi rock charged our credit card saying that they were open and got rude and threatend bodily injury to my husband.
I find this practice unacceptable.
They did respond to my email from 10/26 on 11/1 with a generic letter stating that they still had no power and thanking everyone for their concern.
But did not confirm my reservation.

I have never been so insulted by anyone doing business my whole life.

It sounds and looks like a neat place to stay. But if their employees treat their prospective customers that way THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD SPEND MY MONEY THERE.

My family stayed at the Tropic Rock for 3 nights. Our room was an efficiency on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The only negative point is that the bathroom and kitchen could use some updating. Mick was very pleasant & helpful when it came to recommending some restaurants in the area, which turned out to be fabulous. Overall a good value for your dollar.
