“One of the best”

Tropi Rock Resort

Just back from a 21 day vacation in Florida. We traveled from Ft.Lauderdale via Naples/Tampa to Orlando and the best place we stayed was for sure Tropi Rock. It's small but the rooms and surroundings are just great. Walking distance from the beach and boulevard. Mick, the owner, is very helpfull and will give you all the required information concerning
shop's, attractions ect ect. We spent quit some time in the BBQ-area, really nice to relax in the evening with a big steak!!
Finally one remark- the best coffee in Florida. Thanks Mick & Patty for a great vacation.

As you can see, the majority of reviews of the Tropi Rock are very positive. The majority, more often than not, is correct and this is no exception. My family stayed at the Tropi Rock on August 18 and 19, prior to a August 20th cruise, and felt like we were staying at a friends home. Mick and Pattie are the owners and on the days we were there Mick was out of town and Pattie was working very hard. Pattie and the staff made our stay as enjoyable as possible. Pattie would sit up in the evening and welcome conversation about the hotel business and would enjoy chatting about your family and/or hers. She is a doll. We took a room on the first floor and it was very clean. The pool was clean but as with most Southern Florida pools in August the pool water was as warm as bath water. No need for a heater at this time of year. We made use of the "Free" internet service which was adjacent to the office. No member of our family is a tennis player but there are two very nice tennis courts which also are included in the nightly rate. There were scores of movies in the office which can be used in your room as the TV in the room had a VCR's built in. If you choose, you can use the barbque grills. The hotel is two minutes to the beach and Pattie offered the use of Beach chairs and towels. She will offer you directions to anywhere you need to go as she knows the area very well. Her children (ages 19, 12, 11) were visiable most days and were very polite and helpful. Even the family Golden was playful. As I said, It is like home away from home.
The resort is not perfect (A/C was louder than normal and there is no Ice machine) but you get so much for so little. Anyone, like the person from Manteo, NC, who requires far more than a friendly, safe and clean place should stay at a full service resort and pay $200 to $300 a night. When you pay $75 a night with all the extra's this is the place to stay.
Our real disappointment was not meeting Mick. After all the notes we have read about him, we were looking forward to meeting him. We will always stay at the Tropi rock when our travel plans take us to Fort Lauderdale. Why stay anywhere else. Pattie, Dora asked me to say how much she enjoyed you and the conversations you had. :)

“Just great”

Tropi Rock Resort

The Tropi Rock for us was supposed to be a mere one-night-stopover on our way to the Keys but then we liked it so much we decided to stay 3 nights instead. The location is great, just a 3 minute walk to the beach, the Water Bus stop is within walking distance, what more would you want?
Granted, some of the rooms could use a little work, but then again the 50´s flair just adds to the charme of this little gem. The owner Mick could not be nicer, he was the main reason we decided to stay two additional nights.
If you are looking for a great no-frills place to stay in FL, the Tropi Rock is for you! Highly recommended!
Say "Hi" from Claudia and Jens if you talk to Mick.

First the good...the owners who run the place could not be nicer, and show concern for their patrons. Now the rest. The place is just OK, and certainly the plethora of 5 star TA reviews are completely unjustified...even suspicious. This place is a typical 50's vintage small Lauderdale hotel that's had some painting, and fixing, but not enough to make it even close to the quaint little undiscovered place you (like us) thought you had found. There is no smoking in the rooms, but everywhere you look there are chairs set outside the room doors with smokers doing their thing. Same thing at all the tables around the overly active pool court. The place is popular with Europeans. The irony is we saw several other nicer, quieter, small 50's hotels nearby that were nearly empty, yet this place was nearly full, driven I think by TA readers like us. The first room we were assigned had such depressing decor we could not stand it. We were moved to another room which was better and somewhat more private; acceptable for the one night we stayed but no more than that. Cleanliness is OK, but our room showed signs of wear and needed painting. The mattress was firm at least, and there is wireless Internet. If you dismiss this review as one unimpressed customer in a sea of positive reviews, you will make the the same mistake we did when we picked this hotel. Enjoy your stay in this crowded tourist trap! Lesson learned: If there are too many too positive reviews, beware, they may not all be real.
