What a delightful experience my family and I had recently at theTropi Rock hotel in Fort Lauderdale. We do a lot of traveling and stay at many different hotels. Tropi Rock has a certain charm and laid back persona to it. Mick and Patty our hosts were genuinely friendly, warm and everything you would expect from great hosts. The hotel does not take itself too seriously and offers an oasis in a busy city environment.

I came across Tropi Rock through Trip Advisor and read all of the reviews. Yes a saw a few negative reviews...but as a frequent traveller, I could see through these people.

The hotel has a laid back atmosphere and a wonderful garden area, which the owners are in the process of expanding. There are tennis courts on the property, with the hosts suppling equipment. The rooms were clean and well tended to. The housekeeping staff was outstanding in getting our room into shape each morning.

We were able to kick back, enjoy some good conversation with the owners and our family in a tropical setting. The beach was just 1 block from the hotel and the surrounding streets are quiet and peaceful.

I don't often write with such superlatives...but in this case I make an exception. Tropi Rock was certainly a good value for our money and a new hotel where we will now stay when we come back to Fort Lauderdale.

Have fun......Ed Kiley

I really enjoyed this hotel. The rooms were clean. Very cute rooms with a mini kitchen. Nice and peaceful. It is family run business. Good price for your money. Great location down the street from the beach. There are BBQ's around the place and tennis courts. I would stay here again.

Mick was very helpful in every aspect of what we were looking for... Had wonderful pointers and referred us to the best places.

He let us know how to access the internet (free) on our laptop.. Once we figured it out, it was good.

There is a laundry facility there, but it is open basically the same hours as the office, so not 24/7 but a good deal of time (just as an FYI so you don't leave yourself too late to use it if you want to)

My husband enjoyed the coffee each morning.

The dog is really sweet and very good with strangers.

The pool? We didn't try it, we had only a couple days in town so sight saw most of our time - saw many people enjoying it though.

We had an end unit on the second floor overlooking a shuffleboard court.

We noticed we were about a block and a half away from the ocean and had a lovely view. For the life of me, I cannot locate my pics to put on here, if I do, I will drop them in.

Everything was clean-ish... I noticed in the bathroom there were some darker marks on the door, like hand marks that could have been either wiped off or painted over, tiles were clean-ish as well, could definitely see dirt build up.. The screen looking out of the shower.... Not pretty. (might be that is normal around sandy beaches?)

There is a shuttle I wish we had discovered the day we got there - it was free and went up and down the strip, it sure helped those feet out when coming home.

The walls were paper thin, you can hear the next door neighbor clearing their throat literally as if they are in your room.
I am not sure if it was the walls or the fact that there was a door that could join our rooms? Maybe there was space under?

I am pretty sure there was a space under our front door and our windows were those slat things with screens... We couldn't really shut them tightly so there was definitely no ability to control the noise outside by shutting doors and windows, we found we had to whisper to have any sort of conversation we wanted to keep to ourselves.

Our freezer was in dire need of a thaw... We bought some frozen food and had a heck of a time fitting it in as there was ice that had grown inwards.

We really appreciated having a kitchenette to work with - however, wished they would sell a days worth of dish soap (maybe in a small salad dressing to go container?) instead of having to buy a full small soap container full, just to throw out or donate it back to them.
I would have been happy paying 50 cents or a $1 a day extra to have a full sized one that just stayed in my kitchenette, that I could just use for one wash if I needed it.

I just didn't want to feel like we had to buy a container to get one use out of it. Not sure the fix there, and think its nice they even supply it for purchase, just wish there was a way to work it better. (there was very little to complain about with this hotel... I'm just thinking out loud what would have made it better)

Mick gave us a name of a guy that had a car rental place - he was wonderful, picked me up at the hotel, drove me to the car rental place, when we dropped it off, he drove us to the cruise port. Ask Mick his contact info... This guy is wonderful (Gold coast??? something or other company I believe)

He also let us know that Miami was very close, and how to get a really scenic drive there and south beach.

All in all, I would definitely go back, I completely recognize that this is not a five star, nor was I expecting one, but, I think it could do with a bit better of a clean in the rooms, some way of soundproofing a bit better and a workaround with dish soap.

I really loved my stay here. I was only in town for one night on business, but somehow feel like I just went on a vacation. The rooms were charming and clean. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The pool area was a wonderful place to have some coffee, read, and enjoy the morning sun (they did a great job giving the area some character)

Be sure to say hello to Mick (behind the counter) and Oliver (the hotel dog) when you stop in.....two of the nicest mammals in fort lauderdale!

Stayed here with Mick and Patty for five nights in an efficiency. Mick is very accommodating and kind. Beach towels and chairs are a plus. Hotel is VERY short walk to the beach. Pool area small but very nice. Grounds are pretty. This is no frills but very clean. Elevator is a little scary - it's the kind with the metal gate that pulls back. Walls are rather thin - we were awakened each morning by loud guests. All in all, we paid less than half what the high end hotels were asking.
