Finding a hotel in a place you have never been before can be challenging. After reading the reviews of Tropi Rock, we decided to give it a try. After all, for just over $100 for an efficiency in a popular beach town, how can you beat that? We were very pleasantly surprised upon arriving at Tropi Rock. The landscaping around the building and pool area is just beautiful. Everything is brightly colored and tiled in a very fun way. The room we stayed in was clean, the bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed. The bathroom was rather small but we didn't spend much time there, so it didn't matter. Maid service was very friendly! The hotel is located just a short walk from the beach (about a block) and it's really the perfect location because you don't get any of the noise off of A1A. Actually that was the best part of the stay -- it was so quiet! We slept in pretty late most days and no one bothered us. The pool area was clean and the water was warm so it was great for an evening swim. Internet access was a very good perk. We looked up a lot of area information and things to do on there whenever we saw something that might interest us.
Beer/drinks were available in the lobby and they were no more than if you went to one of the beach stores (we saw a 6pack of beer for $12.99!!!). Anyway, all in all, Tropi Rock was worth every penny and we will definitely return when we go back to Ft. Lauderdale. It really is a place worth visiting and it was a nice change of pace to stay at a Mom & Pop place. Thanks Mick, Patty, boys, and Oliver! We had a great time.

My daughter and I visited in early February. Like the other reviewers, I found the owners charming and the pool area is pretty. However, overall the facilities are somewhat ramshackle and our room was not clean. There were dustballs in every crevice, there was hair in the bathtub, and the blinds were bent and grimy. Most disgusting though, we rented an efficiency room equipped with cookware and dishes that had ostensibly been cleaned, which we used for several meals before my daughter reached for the next bowl and discovered a petrified cookie and a mini candy bar stacked inside. The water pressure for our toilet was also extremely low, and we discovered a possible cause when we ran into the guest next door to us marching toward his room carrying a toilet plunger and commenting that the front desk said there was nobody around to help him.

If the TropiRock were just a little more modern and up-to-date, quieter with newer bathrooms and furnishings it would be better right? NO, then it would be the Best Western Airport. Please don't confuse "dated" with "dirty". Yes the Tropi-rock is showing its age but the beds are excellent and the sheets are spotless. There is a reason that people keep talking about Mick here. He is no "hypnotist" just a guy who is very sincere and proud of his hotel. There are many places to stay in Ft. Lauderdale. For the price, you will find none better. Please give the TropiRock a try, you won't be disappointed. We will definitely go back

Hm...maybe if we wouldn't have been on the ground floor?

I'm not sure what to think, there are so many good reviews.
Unfortunately I was not impressed at all with the tropirock. Our room was dirty, the tub filled up with water when you took a shower, the walls in the bathroom are falling apart. Maybe we stayed in the wrong room? Maybe the maids on the ground floor aren't as good as the other maids? I don't know. I do know the names of the people who stayed in the room next to us. I also know that their tub filled up with water too and their toilet overflowed. I know that they thought their room was dirty too. I know all of this because the walls are very thin and they woke me up at 5:30 in the morning talking, it was like they were in the room with us. If it wasn't for the room, I would have LOVED the place. I personally will not go back but let me say that if you decide to stay here I would recommend requesting a room that is not on the ground floor because that must be where all of the "happy reviewers" stayed.

Just returned home yesterday after 1 week in not-so-sunnyFort Lauderdale (they always say February is not guaranteed weather) and had to get on-line and review my particular Tropi-Rock experience. I did a ton of research before booking on-line with Travelocity at the Tropi-Rock. I hate overpaying at hotels. I certainly was not going to get ripped off by paying a lot of money for an average or below average room. So, my research lead me to the Tropirock. I was ready to take my chances based on generally good/excellent comments that I had read on Tripadvisor as well as a few not-so-complimentary ones. To make a long story short, and as a lesson to anybody using TRAVELOCITY, my booking was never received by the Tropirock. THIS IS 100% THE FAULT OF TRAVELOCITY AND I RECOMMEND FOLLOWING UP WITH HOTEL DIRECTLY WHENEVER YOU RESERVE THROUGH THEM. Upon arrival at Tropirock, Mick advised us of the situation and went way above and beyond the call of duty by arranging for us to stay at a nearby hotel as he had no room for us. He gave us full access to all Tropirock facilities at no charge to compensate for the Travelocity error. We were saddened not to have been able to experience the Tropirock as patrons, but will definitely go back in the near future. The hotel is warm, inviting, clean, ecclectic, unique, personable and packed with value compared to the other hotels nearby. Please take my word and disregard the negative reviews...these are obviously people with unreasonable expectations and a bit too much time on their hands. I was eager to see if Mick truly was the "Icon" he is painted to be on these boards...and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is 100% true!
