“Does the good outweigh the bad?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Pros - Location is great.
Free Parking for guests
friendly/helpful front desk staff...our taxi was late and the one girl called every shuttle company she knew to help us.
They have a stack of beach chairs and umbrellas for guests to use.
Beds were clean and comfortable.
The price was right.
Microwave and mini fridge were a bonus.

Cons - The towel rack in our bathroom was broken and the hook from the back of the door wasn't there...not good when we have bath & beach towels plus our bathing suits.
The bathroom could definitely use some work, our shower ran constantly and just looked dirty overall.
The decor was non-existent...not one picture, mirror, anything on the walls. The only two mirrors were on the wall and the shower door.
The sign threatening to charge women for their towels if they get makeup on them. (Might even been a pro b/c I had a good time laughing at it)

And the biggest deal breaker for me was our first morning 8:20AM I was woken up by very loud people whom I assumed were excited guests. They were yelling for about 2 hours outside our door so there was no going back to sleep. I finally realized when I popped my head out to see what was all the commotion it was the cleaning staff. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How unprofessional can you get...disturbing the very reason you have a job...the guests who spent a lot of money on their vacation and don't want to be rudely woken up by you. Luckily, we were only their for the weekend after a cruise so we only had two mornings are being woken up way too early on vacation by the annoying cleaning staff.

Does the good outweigh the bad? All the cons I could deal with for the price we paid except for the last one.
If you want to stay here I would suggest asking to stay as far away from the cleaning closet as possible (not sure if it's possible not to hear them).
If the owners told them to please do their job as quietly as possible and this actually happened it might be a decent place to stay. As it stands now they will never see us again.

Your suggestions have not fallen on deaf ears, and we want you to come back to see and hear (or rather, not hear) the changes! Thanks again for your review.

Tropi Rock is a very nice refurbished hotel. It's a unique place with an undeniable charm.

I stayed with two of my friends, and as 20-somethings on a budget we're glad we stayed here. We had a lot of fun and relaxed a bunch.

It's a pretty basic room (no carpets or phone though), but it's clean and includes a fridge / microwave. Bathroom fixtures seem old, but they're good enough. Loved the palm trees and tropical plants growing all over the grounds. Also liked how the beach and bars are within walking distance. Hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful, we felt very welcomed by them. You can save a lot of money by drinking the free coffee every morning and taking advantage of the very nice BBQ grills. Compared to the competition, I'd say Tropi Rock is a no-brainer.

We stayed in the "Studio". The advertisement said king bed, but the room had a very very uncomfortable queen bed. It was like sleeping on card board. The windows were filthy. The Circa 1960's bathroom had crusties in the corners and the shower door was broken. It reminded me of the cheapest apartment I had in college.

Right outside my door was another door that was slightly open. It turned out to be a gas station style bathroom. Right outside my room? Very strange.

When I mentioned that the room had been mis-advertised, the staff was rude and told me that there was nothing they could do. Even though there were other rooms available that night. I paid $119 per night for this homeless shelter flop house. Very upsetting.

We chose this as it was close to the beach and had mostly good reviews. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower excellent. Although we didn't have time to use the pool, it looked lovely.
We had a great meal and a very good bottle of wine at the Bistro next door - highly recommended!
The friendly reception staff called a cab for us to the cruise terminal, which was about $16, and arrived promptly.
We would definately choose Tropi Rock again for a pre-cruise stay.

Shazonhols,
We are so happy that we could be a part of your pre-cruise kickoff! You're right, the Bistro right next door serves delicious food and wine. Next time you visit, you can enjoy the pool while we bring your food to you! See you soon, NBV

We chose this because of price and location to the beach. We had to take 2 taxis as we were traveling with another family. Our rate was $50 as theirs was $25 because ours took us on the long route. If you are going there from FLL make sure they take you down the road by the beach.

This is a converted apartment building. We were there for spring break and had no problem with loud and partying kids. It was quiet, comfortable, clean and the staff was very helpful. It also is close to the beach and restaurants. I will review the recommended restaurant in another post.

My only complaint was the fact even though I had made reservations with Yellow taxi the day before we left on our cruise, they never showed up. If you are stay in Fort Lauderdale to leave on s cruise I would recommend staying closer to the port. The other family had to contact a family member who lives in the area to get them as after 1 1/2 hours and multiple calls to taxi co. and still no taxi. Book a shuttle instead.

Room Tip: If pre cruise stay book a shuttle....

After a long trip from home we arrived at 7.50 PM at the hotel. There was a sign stating that there will be someone until 8 PM, but no one was there. Fortunately there was also a sign with a phone number. After phoning this number someone came quickly and apologized.
Our room was next to the pool and had chairs and a table in front of it. The room was big and airco and (free) wifi worked fine.
The bed was comfortable and the shower was good.
There was a kitchen with a fridge and coffee making facilities.
The room was a bit run down and the floor of our room was sticky.
There was free coffee near the pool. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice.
We tried to go to restaurant Plaza Bistro next door, but we were late on a Saturday evening and it was full. Since we spent one night in this hotel, going back the next evening was not an option.
The staff allowed us to leave some luggage in the reception on the day that we were leaving.
There was enough (free) parking space.

I have to respond to the comments from Curtis 1115...I have to vehemently refute his claim about the dirt and the staff!!! Our family have stayed at the Tropirock each March for the past 7 or 8 years and have come to know many of the staff and particularly Patty. Yes there were some unruly spring breakers (new this year..as Patty and Mick in the past did not welcome spring breakers to the hotel - they valued the peace and quiet as did their guests) Security however asked one group to leave after a night of partying and complaints.
As for the blood on the floor, did he make the office staff aware of this or just the housekeepping staff? Curtis failed to mention that he too was part of a guest problem with smoking (which was in direct contravention to the signs posted)!!(if I got the right person)
Anytime we requested anything from the maids, they were very quick to offer their assistance to meet our needs. The bathrooms are older and a little harder to keep "pristine". Sea air takes a toll on fixtures and such, thereby making it difficult to stay on top of everything with metal parts. The only complaint or constructive criticism that I would make is to reinstall phone service to the rooms. When you travel from another country as we do, our cell phones are not as affordable as in the US ...in the past I bought an international calling card and called home from my room but was unable to do so this year due to the lack of a phone in the room. When the partyers were acting up and jumping in the pool at 4:30 a.m., we were unable to contact anyone because of the lack of them!!! Just for safety alone, I would ask the new owner to reconsider this for all your guests benefit. We have travelled extensively both abroad and in the US and Canada, and we have never encountered a hotel room without a phone!!!
We do miss the added little Spanish touches in the rooms that made the Tropirock decor unique, but the changes you have made give the feeling of a "boutique" hotel, which many will appreciate. Our family just felt that the uniqueness of each individual room was special and that we truly had found "paradise" when we visited. Your changes around the pool and the Bistro are terrific and we really enjoyed the New Look. The hotel is only a block from the beach and typically in a "quiet" area - therefore our many return visits! I realize as a business owner you must look at the bottom line. If you cannot designate this as a "family" resort, then the few spring breakers who do break the rules can be dealt with individually and expediently if you have phones in the rooms and a security number to call if they are jumping into the pool at 4:30 in the morning or running around the hotel. I hope you will consider my comments in a positive light and would recommend this property without hesitation. Thank you!

Room Tip: We like the 3rd floor as there is no one above you. The middle range of rooms is great, as you have...
