My husband and I went to FL for some R&R and to get away from the cold Indiana weather. We had used all the online travel sights to find a hotel but couldn't find one near the beach within our price range.

I stumbled upon Tropi Rock via Trip Advisor. I read all the reviews and after speaking with the owner over the phone, I knew this would be a great stay. Plus they were one of the few small lodging motels/hotels with availability over New Years.

Our plane arrived late into FL and Mick was there to greet us at 11pm at night. Previous posters are correct, Tropi Rock is about 1.5 blocks from the ocean--which was wonderful. We were within walking distance of some great eateries and shopping. The Gallery mall is only a few minutes away. Thanks Mick for all the ideas for eateries!! The Pizza was the best!

It wasn't until the cold front came thru that we really had a chance to enjoy Tropi Rock. Yes, the bathrooms are a little dated. But that what gave it charm. Unfortunately we were there during one of Floridia coldest times and there is no heating units in the rooms. Thankfully blankets are available at the front desk.

Free internet access was wonderful - expecially on those cold days when we were looking for something to do. There are movies available at the front desk (for a small fee) to rent.

We never got a chance to try out the coffee, shows us to sleep in until 10am. We also enjoyed Oliver the dog. Made us really miss our own dog back home. He truly is the best welcome wagon agent!

We really enjoyed are stay and will stay again. If you are looking for a hotel out of the norm - stay here!

Place was clean. Proprietors were nice and accomodating.
Small family run hotel. Rooms were very clean and decor was fine and unique. The pool and sitting area very tropical and relaxing. There were some other common areas that appeared to be seldom used that could have used sprucing up like the rear patio, tiki hut and shuffle board area by the tennis courts.

The only problem I had was there was no ice machine. It was not very hot this time of year so it was not so bad. We had to buy a bag of ice and keep it in the small fridge.

There was mention of a halfway house nearby. I did not see it or anything that resembled any safety problems. There was a hotel on the beach when you walk toward the beach they are getting ready to tear down to build a new one. So it was very quiet in that area. The beach was beautiful. A restaraunt on the beach for breakfast called the Deck that was in walking distance and on the beach that served great eggs benedict.

We ended up driving to restaraunts at night as the main area was about a mile away. If you go to Beach Place do not park in the 9.00 a day parking garage. There is a municipal parking lot directly 2 behind it inland, charges only 1.00 per hour.
They do supply beach towels. For the money this hotel was fine.

Location is a very quiet area with not many restaraunts and pretty much NO nightlife.

We were going to stay at a different property in Ft. Lauderdale, but fortunately checked first with TripAdvisor. The reviews -- and pictures -- convinced us to switch where we stayed, and TripAdvisor was right there to recommend Tropi Rock.

And it is worth the recommendation. It is a very nice place to stay with BIG and clean rooms, perfect location, nices extras like free Internet service and coffee available much of the day, and a friendly, helpful owner. All at exceptionally reasonable rates. We can unhesitatingly recommend the Tropi Rock.

Our stay was very short -- got in late and left early, wish we'd been there long enough to hang out and chill in the garden. We were greeted by a kind, enthusiastic host, and the vibe of the place was great. It reminded us of the beach motels we'd stayed at as kids, unpretentious, unique, and fun. Much better than a big hotel, even though it's looking a little seedy.

Needed a place to spend the night before we boarded our cruise ship. It was easy to locate from I95 and close to the beach and the cruise port. This is a older hotel that is well cared for. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We were in easy walking distance from various shops and places to eat. Parking is street side which I didn't particulary care for, however the area proved to be safe and we had no problems. The rooms and furnishings are of a older period, but were
in good condition and very clean. Over all we were quite comfortable. No breakfast provided but there was plenty of good coffee available in the morning. I would definitly stay here again.
