My son recently returned home from a six-month deployment to the Middle East. As he had some R&R leave to burn before returning to work, he treated me to a vacation in Fort Lauderdale. I am a widow and, therefore, do not travel as much as I did before my husband died. This vacation was a perfect reunion for me and my son and a wonderful place for my son to unwind from his tour of duty in the desert. We chose the Tropi Rock Resort for our FTL stay. In decades of traveling and cruising, I have never made a wiser choice. The Tropi Rock Resort is a tropical haven! This hotel is the best of everything. When I choose a hotel, I ask myself these things: Is the hotel clean? Is the staff efficient? Is the staff friendly? Are the furnishings comfortable? Is there anything that would make me want to return? Is there anything unique about the hotel? And finally----am I getting what I am paying for? Regarding the Tropi Rock, the answer to every single question is a resounding YES!Specific to our visit, the Tropi Rock not only met, but far exceeded, my criteria for a pleasant hotel stay. Immediately upon entering the hotel lobby, we were warmly greeted by John, the manager. John welcomed us and showed us to our rooms. More about John to follow.Shortly after checking in, we had the pleasure of meeting Mick, the hotel's owner. What can I say about Mick that can adequately describe him? Not nearly enough, I am sure. Mick is warm, knowledgeable about "all-things-Fort Lauderdale" and he always found time in his busy schedule to graciously answer any and all questions we had. He was always visible, always available, and he has a great sense of humor. He provided many light moments for us. His lovely wife, Patty, and his beautiful, polite children, Karina, Alex, and Christian can also be spotted around the hotel and on the grounds and are just as warm, friendly, and helpful as is Mick. The hotel's unofficial mascot, "Oliver", the family's gorgeous, well-trained golden retriever, was also quite a and beautiful. There are many varieties of tropical plants, flowers, and trees. I saw bananas, coconuts, bird-of-paradise, palms, ferns, and dozens of species I could not identify. There is art everywhere! There are fountains, waterfalls, and interesting statues. I did not personally use it, but there is a nice swimming pool with an inlaid mosaic fish design. There is an abundant supply of comfortable, attractive poolside furniture. Beverages and snacks are available in the reception area as well as a huge assortment of videocassette movies. There are tennis & shuffleboard courts, bbq grills, a terrific sundeck, and little niches here-and-there if you just want to escape and ponder your wise decision. If this is not enough, the gorgeous beach of Fort Lauderdale is only steps away!I had the occasion to call upon John several times during my stay. John is fantastic. This gentleman is a fountain of travel knowledge. He was able to make perfect restaurant suggestions, arrange for taxi & shuttle services, and advise us on area facilities and attractions. I had many chats with John on varying subjects. This man knows travel. John is multi-lingual, as is Patty (co-owner) and I heard a minimum of three languages being fluently spoken when required. In summary, the Tropi Rock is THE place to stay when in Fort Lauderdale. I realize that many people prefer the predictability of chain hotels with their cookie-cutter rooms and invisible staff, but I am not one of those people. It's true that chain hotels (usually) have no surprises. Conversely, they (usually also) have no charm. If you are looking for a wonderfully unique hotel at a great price, this hotel fits the bill to a "T". Many, many thanks to Mick, Patty, John, and everyone else at the Tropi Rock Resort for making this much-needed vacation one which I will always fondly remember.Mrs. Brenda Macomber

We recently had a short trip to fort lauderdale, to accomany my daughter, before she left for an adventure to an island in the bahamas. I did alot of searching to find just the right hotel, and did we find it. The owners of Tropi Rock Resort, are just awesome people, Mick and his family made us feel so welcome, and helpful for information, made my daughter feel so comfortable, which is what I was looking for a realxed setting. The pool area, is a true retreat, you feel you are in some hidden oasis, yet the street is right there. The gardens, the casding water fountain, it was just so right. The rooms are all different and a welcome change from standard boring hotel rooms. The roof top, what a view, and if you have a chance take a nap in the hammick(sorry if spelt wrong). There is so much more I would love to say about Tropi Rock, but I think I will leave a few wonderful surprises for future guests to see for themselves. We would love to return, and spend more time. Oh yes, and the ocean is just barley 2 blocks away, and restaurants many to walk to. If you want a at home feeling, and yet be at a samll resort book this one!Debbie,Stephen & Rebecca

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tropi Rock for 2 nights in April/03. It has been one on the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Mick, the owner, went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He was even so generous as to give us a umbrella for use on a rainy day. The cleaning staff is impecable. The tile floors are a wonderful change from the musty carpets in the other hotels we stayed at. The price you pay is more than reasonable for the services that are provided. The hotel is a quiet oasis, a comfortable home away from home. The next time we are in the Ft. Lauderdale are we will definitely be giving Mick a call. Thanks again Mick for the wonderful experience!!!! We won't forget Mick or the Tropi Rock.

If you are looking for a unique, comfortable, and easy beach access experience, Tropi Rock Resort is the place for you! I stayed at Tropi Rock on my second trip to Ft. Lauderdale. After staying at a chain hotel during my first stay where the owners lied to me about location/closeness to the beach and where accomadations were horrible, I was really looking for a unique, yet comfortable location to spend this second trip. Being a teacher with very little funds, vacations are few and far between. Therefore, I was determined to enjoy myself on this next trip. Tropi Rock Resort far exceeded my expectations and reinstated my love for the Ft. Lauderdale area. In addition, the reasonable rates made the trip easily affordable. The owner, Mick, made sure that my friend and I were taken care of and I noticed that he seemed to treat each of his guests with this unique and caring personality. He was very familiar with the area and was able to recommend restaurants and other attractions. While the rooms were not filled with luxurious and unneeded amenities, they were decorated with unique styles, such as our 50's theme, and were thorougly cleaned daily. I am very particular about feeling clean and comfortable where I sleep and Tropi Rock did just this for me. The staff was friendly, the pool was clean and well-kept, and the tropical gardens and waterfall decor made us feel as if we had escaped to a true tropical island. We also loved the sundeck with the brand-new hammocks and the easy, two-block walk to the beach and short walk to downtown(restaurants/shops). We spent the day on the beach, afternoons at the pool, showered, and then took a warm-breezed walk to town. Every day and night was full of perfection. The only downfall, IT was VERY hard to leave. I will definitely return!!! -Erica Meidell

We toured this hotel in March to see if it would appeal to us for a future stay. All I can say is that on a scale of 1 - 10 it is about a 3 or 4. Rooms are very old. The location, while fairly close to the beach didn't appeal to us at all. This is a place where you definitely get what you pay for. There is a reason the rates are so low. There are too many better choices in Fort Lausderdale, even in this price category.
