My partner and I spent a couple of nights there. This was my first experience with a gay guesthouse and a very interesting one.
The resort itself is huge. 2 pools and a jacuzzi plus a sundeck.
I have to say, overall I enjoyed our stay at Elysium.
The room was definitely nothing special. Average, not particularly decorated to my style. The property has got a gum, but don't even bother. It 's small and rusted. Breakfast was nice and the owners friendly.
However, this is a gay resort and I found it quite cruisy, therefore if you are not prepared to see people doing or ... do not go there.
Pools are clothing optional, but people seemed a bit too shy to take their clothes off.

This coming May 19th, Fred and I are about to stay at the Elysium Resort for the 7th time in 3 years. We can't wait to return! Since we are very well traveled, both of us can easily tell you how very special the owners treat you, all of the time. We have never heard them speak in a rude manner to any of the guests.
With all that the Elysium Resort offers, we feel it's the best deal and the nicest place to stay in all of Ft. Lauderdale!
See you there! Regards, Artie and Fred :)

I booked Elysium Resort for a week stay in March. I found the staff sarcastic, rude, and unprofessional. One of the owners spoke loudly and mockingly when I was first checking in, speaking to me like I was an idiot, because I didn't hear the staff person. Then suggesting that I couldn't get a safe deposit key until I brought them the credit card that I had booked with over the internet. I explained to them that I hadn't decided what credit card to put the room on and when I went back to the office to give them my credit card, later on that morning, they said that they had already run it on the card I didn't want to use. There were also several other times that the other staff made sarcastic comments, I really think they thought they were being clever, unfortunately it was at my expense. There was a guest computer that I tried to use, but the staff almost always made rude comments about my using the computer and said other guests couldn't use it, even though I asked people if they wanted to use it and got off the computer immediately after I knew someone was waiting. The guests seldom used the office computer because most of them had their own laptops. The other owner and I got into an argument twice over my using the internet, resulting in the owner saying that I had to check out immediately. I asked for time to pack and to find a place, but he called the police and demanded my immediate departure. He promised to refund my money as soon as I left the property, but there hasn't been any refund of the monies I had paid for a full week. I have stayed at resorts before, actually lived at one for two months, and I have never been treated so badly and I have never been kicked out of any place. I am a landord myself and I am totally shocked at the way they treated me. I paid $1076.95 for a week stay and was treated in the most unprofessional manner. The police said I had to leave because it is the owners decision who stays, I had no recourse. You may want to think twice at staying at a place like this.

  • Liked — The landscaping
  • Disliked — The sarcastic, rude, and unprofessional staff.

Management response from Gary , Owner

Unfortunately, biased reviews do occur but we hope readers recognize and discount these. We know in the end you will read the all the acclaimed reviews we have received on trip advisor as well as the many wonderful guest reviews posted on our web site. Needless to say this review is full of untruths from an unhappy customer that created his situation and it troubles us that any guest ever leaves less than happy.
come see for yourself the Paradise we have created for tens of thousands of happy guests! we strive to make the Elysium Resort a Paradise for everyone that enters our gate and invite all you who have not been here to try it! Paradise awaits…

My partner and I just returned from our 3rd stay at the Elysium Resort. Each year we have seen more improvements and minor upgrades made to property. While the owners have always been pleasant and most accommodating, in previous years some of their staff members were a bit rude and snobbish. This was not the case at all this year. Each staff member we met always greeted us with a genuine smile and a "good morning" or "good evening". Any of our questions/requests were responded to in an efficient and satisfying manner.

The grounds were as lush and tropical as ever and looked to be in great shape. The staff members made sure things were kept neat and tidy all day long. All of the deck furniture was in good shape and we were pleased to see that most of the old faltering vertical blinds had been replaced with nicer quality mini blinds. The bed linens had been upgraded since our last stay as well. We were thrilled that the owners continued to provide a selection of complimentary sunscreen products by the pools since the airlines would not allow us to carry these products in our luggage. Purchasing them in town would have been an added expense and a waste since we couldn't take them back home with us, either.

I can only think of a couple areas where improvements could be made. The first would be to replace/upgrade the decking on the roof-top sundeck. It is in pretty bad shape and showing the effects of the brutal South Florida climate. Secondly, the guest room windows could use upgrading, as they can be difficult to open/close and afford very little protection from the rare cold evenings and they also offer no sound insulation whatsoever. The only other minor issue was that the closet door in our room (105) was very difficult to slide open or closed.

This being said, I honestly don't think you could find a better value in terms of location, friendly staff, size of rooms and property amenities than at the Elysium Resort.

I just stayed at the Elysium for the fourth time. Before my nine-day trip, I did an extensive search to find another place to stay and went with Cheston House for the first three days, figuring I'd tour the others and decide where to spend my final six days once I got there.

Cheston was fine... nothing wrong with it at all, but I found it a bit quiet for me even though it was a weekend. I went and toured and saw some truly beautiful properties (Villa Venice and Royal Palms especially) and was offered nice discounts by both since they weren't full for the week. However, I was traveling alone and looking for at least a little excitement and I worried they'd be a little too quiet, esp. during the week.

So I went back to my old stomping ground, the Elysium. Steve and Gary (the owners) are always good to me and when I saw that they were going to be busier than the other places, I booked there.

I got a junior suite which was actually NEARLY just as nice as the room at the Villa Venice that had me drooling. I say nearly because the Villa Venice suite had a really gorgeous bathroom. But the Elysium suite was clearly newly remodeled with tile floors, brand new shower, a nice leather couch and a very comfortable bed.

But the best part of the Elysium is the people. Every time I go there I meet really interesting and diverse folks. Is it cruisy? It can be. But is it sleazy? Absolutely not, in my experience. This past week, I found the age range to be from about 20 to 65, with the average around 45. Most wore their suits around the pool, and while there were some interesting things going on in the hot tub at least a few nights, that was very late and it would have been very easy to miss all that, as I did (I like to sleep at night!)

I highly recommend this place. Both Steve and Gary are great guys and they run a good resort. Only thing I wish is that they'd forego the thumpy trance/disco music by the pool sometimes during the day. It seems like all the resorts do that and I just don't get it!

  • Liked — The room, hot tub, pool, other guests, owners
  • Disliked — thumpa-thumpa trance dance music by the pool
