“Bad service”

University Inn

First of all, the curtains don't close so you have no privacy in the evening and can't sleep at night.
Second, breakfast area was not clean, was disorganized and very little food was available until I had to ask for extras. This includes no plates, napkins available until asked for!!!
Third, the front desk people were spaced out, not pleasant or helpful at all and quite honestly, rude!!!
I also asked for a room in the back but the woman said that it is a quiet area, well, it wasn't quiet with all the highway traffic!

Overall, I would NOT recommend for anyone to stay here.

Hmm.. They've changed their name to 'University Inn'.
Rooms were basic but comfortable, however, there's one thing that really annoys me, noise! If you get a room on the road frontage it will be noisy. Fortunately back rooms are quiter, however some do have a humming noise - I know, because we changed rooms 4 times in 3 nights!

I implore travellers to right reviews and rate these hotels/motels so that only the best value ones get our business.

We stayed here for 3 nights after a Caribbean cruise. What a contrast! First, the curtains would not close. In order to have darkness at night (sleep time for some people) we had to clip the curtains together. The couple travelling with us had the same problem in their room. The front desk person offered to change our rooms... to similar rooms with exactly the same problem. No solution there. Second, the front desk personnel seemed NOT to care about how this may bother a guest and even that we were a little odd to want darkness at night and NOBODY had brought this "problem" to their attenion previously. Bad attitude in the hospitality business. Third, when we checked out I asked for a receipt, some hard copy to verify our experience so we could complain to Orbitz, the front desk person said, "NO. You booked through the internet and we only share with them." Bad attitude re-appeared. Fourth, the breakfast offered is sweet, sticky and not nourishing, being mainly tang orange juice, coffee and a danish. The beds were comfortable with quality duvets. Housekeeping was adequate. Yes it is near the airport. This hotel fits the category of "any port in a storm".

It was a good hotel, the rooms were clean, the property was clean, everything was great -- except I had the bright idea that I didn't need to have a car. Unfortunately, this is not true in Fort Lauderdale -- especially here. I paid over $30 for a cab to this location from the International Airport (and they did follow the most direct route). Then it took 4 1/2 hours to get back to the airport to pick up a rental car.

However, the property itself was good, and there were relatively few Spring Break tourists. There was a weird odor in the room, as if there was too much fragrance, but it went away when I put on the fan. There was no smoke smell in the room, although there was some odor of smoke in the hallways. I suppose the halls did look a bit run-down, but I felt completely safe here. All the staff were more than helpful, as they were able.

    • Liked — It was easy to get to, at least when I had a rental car.
    • Disliked — Difficult to use public transportation. Too far from restaurants, etc. to walk.
