I got a deal on priceline for $116 a night and ended up at the Westin. Overall, an average stay. The hotel is being updated if I understood correctly. I used the pool and both times, clean towels ran out causing guests to scurry around looking for more. The hot tub didn't appear to work properly- minimal bubbles even when it was "on." Service at the lobby bar was fine, the bartender was efficient. My drink was nice and the price wasn't bad. Under $7 for a mixed drink.

Location as others noted wasn't super, but with a car I had no issues. Overall, I would have liked a newer looking hotel, but for a few nights it wasn't bad.

I stayed at the Westin for a business trip at the end of March and was a bit disappointed in the location. For those of you traveling here be aware - there are no places to eat within a safe, comfortable walking distance. The restaurant in the hotel is a bit over-priced and the food selection is limited. If you are staying here for a night or two, the food is fine. But if you are staying for a week's conference (like I was) the food gets very old, very quick. Additionally, the shuttle service was very expensive - be sure to barter before you hop in a cab! I definitely recommend renting a car.

The pool was very nice and very well landscaped with good direct sunlight.

The workout room is small, but doable, and the "running path" that they mention on the web site isn't very long (probably less than a mile).

The rooms were very nice and clean but for some reason the cleaning staff didn't come to my room until very late in the day each day (as in after 4:00 p.m.). While this didn't pose a problem for me as I was out all day on business, this may pose a problem for families or people who frequent the room.

Overall, I think that this is a good hotel to stay in if you are traveling for business and have a cushy expense account (to rent the car, pay for parking, eat meals off-site, etc.). If you are family looking for a relaxing, kid-friendly, conveniently located hotel, I suggest that you look elsewhere.

“Good Business Class Hotel”

Westin Fort Lauderdale

Mar 21, 2008

If you need a good business class hotel in the north-west Ft. Lauderdale / Pompano Beach area, this is a good choice. It is located right off 95, and is about 15 minutes from the coast. Easy access to shopping and restaurants. I have stayed about 20+ nights, and hotel service is consistent.

Positives:
+ Great front desk. Friendly, fast and efficient
+ Standard rooms are nice. Typical Westin feel, decor and great beds. Platinum members get good upgraded rooms. Some of the suites are very large with separate sitting areas in addition to the bedroom. I did not notice a dramatic difference between the rooms on the Preferred floors and the standard floors
+ Views from the top floors are nice
+ Building and decor is nice and modern
+ You can get to the airport in about 15 minutes. Plan for 30 minutes during rush hour on 95
+ Valet parking is available if you have lots of luggage

Negatives:
- If you don't have a corporate agreement, parking is not included in the rate. Parking is a bit steep for what is essentially a residential area, $10 a day
- Standard rooms are a bit small compared to other Westins

As with most Westins, internet access is an additional charge. Overall nice place to stay.

“relaxing post-cruise stay”

Stayed here because of a cancelled flight home after our cruise and had a wonderful relaxing day with Westin's usual comfortable Heavenly beds. The hotel restaurant had great food and the surrounding landscape/pool area were nice (complete with iguanas), with a view of a small lake. It was a corporate-area hotel (no beaches nearby!) but fine for a pre- or post-cruise stay. Although right along I-95, rooms were quiet.

“An okay hotel. That is all.”

Westin Fort Lauderdale

My wife and I joined another couple to go to a professional meeting at the hotel. I am commenting on both of our rooms which were on the same floor. We booked our rooms at a meeting rate of 189.00, but I suspect that anyone could get this kind of rate. While we were there, tour groups kept coming in and out the door.

The grounds are well kept. The hotel is located very close to the highway. The soundproofing was good, but if you step outside there is a great deal of road noise. It may be bothersome if you are looking to relax at the pool.

The pool is attractive and there is plenty of room for lounging, but the pool is just functional one. There is nothing special about it.

The check in was fine. As a matter of fact, the entire crew at the hotel were very accommodating. That is perhaps the best part of the hotel.

Neither the other couple, nor my wife know that I write reviews to post on TripAdvisor, and so were not critical of the hotel because of me. Still............they were the best commentators.

Our room was a King size room, and although having adequate space, there was no excess. The bathroom though, was the size one might expect in a Motel 6. You need to stand to the side of the commode to close the door.

Our friends had a much larger King room at the same price and reservation service. If one looks at the floor plan, you realize that there is a group of rooms at the center of the hotel which is quite small. Ours was one of these rooms. If you want a more spacious and attractive room, you need to tell them at the desk to put you someplace away from the elevators. This is likely to get you a more spacious and well designed room.

The heating and air conditioning system was good, and responsive. Perhaps this is the best part of the physical plant.

My wife and the other woman, spontaneously agreed that the hotel is a tired old place. Although it looks quite contemporary from the front, the interior is another story. The chairs and carpet in the rooms were spotted. The locks on the doors had putty around them indicating that they had replaced key locks with electronic locks. The job was not well done, giving the appearance of shoddy workmanship.

The restaurant is attractive, and the people there are very responsive. The menu offers a sufficient number of options and the prices are not excessive. Meal presentation is attractive and the food well prepared.

All in all, the hotel is just a ho-hum one, and I suspect that you can get reservations at a lot less money than we paid. Usually having a bunch of tourist groups going through the place indicates that while the hotel might have been a pretty nice place at one time, it has now suffered the effects of age.
