“It is so bad;Tripadvisor shouldn't even display this place!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

After reading the 12-2012 and earlier comments, it sounded like the motel could be OK, not special, but OK. It wasn't! Although the female owner was friendly, which I appreciated, that cannot make up for the lack of cleanliness and other negative attributes of the motel! (The immediate area, on the same side of the street as the motel, had bldgs. crowded together and looked cheap!) Generally everything about the motel from the linens, tub/shower area, and floors seemed overused and not maintained!

MJOntario describes everything about the place accurately! There were hairs on the floors, wiring tacked to the walls, and a water heater where you’re supposed to hang your clothes! If a fire marshal saw those things, I bet he would have a fit! The bedding looked as if it had not been changed from the previous occupants. Yuck! When I saw sheets hanging over the railings of the bldg., I felt, my suspicions were confirmed. Those sights reminded me of nasty, old, run down tenements from long ago! In general, I found the place depressing and oppressive.

FYI, I arrived around Midnight and to my dismay there wasn't a parking spot available. A police officer told me the parking lots of the stores across from the motel weren't available for overnight parking. He said those who park there are ticketed! There were no apparent residential streets nearby. (By the way, it didn't look safe to walk alone at night either.) With the hope a parking spot would eventually open up, I went to a drugstore, but NO such luck! (This motel is between two other bldgs. with about two car widths between them. Cars were parked in one of the lanes.) I could barely drive the car through the narrow lane to the back of the bldg. After driving around a couple times, I took a chance and parked the car on a very small tilted patch of grass. Fortunately, no one hit it.

I felt the motel owner, who is management, did not respect my privacy as a tenant. For example, after getting to sleep about 4 a.m., later in the morning, I awoke to one knock and suddenly a man was inside! (It probably was the owner’s brother, who helps run the place.) I had previously said I did not need housekeeping. I know someone was in the room other times, too.

Additional negatives: Since I’m allergic to smoke, I wasn’t happy to breathe air from someone lounging and smoking outside my first floor poolside window. In addition, the place is dimly lit; bring a bright light bulb so you can read a map and/or a tour guide. I’m sure you will be able to sense the motel is economizing as much as they can.

Things are incorrectly stated in the description for this motel. Here are two examples: There is NO hot tub, and NO, you canNOT see any water from the motel! Although I was told on the telephone, “… you can from the second floor patio,” well, maybe if you’re 7 feet tall and use binoculars; then you may get a glimpse of something a different shade of what the sky is! By the way, on the patio there were only a few old chairs.

Because I wasn’t satisfied with the environment, I left sooner than planned.

Room Tip: If you can't go somewhere else, go to the second floor on the side of the building where the off...

What struck us first about this motel was the shabby outside appearance. The building badly needs a paint job, and the stairs to the second floor need a good scrubbing. The room itself left a lot to be desired. The furniture was old and tired; the pillows on the bed were lumpy. But the worst part was the bathroom. There was no nozzle on the shower head - just a stream of water came out of a pipe. There was no plug for the bathtub, and there was rust on the outside bottom edge of it. There was no tub mat, and one of the washcloths had a yellow stain on it. We weren't expecting any frills, but it would have been nice to have shampoo and a blow dryer provided. All in all, this motel has been sadly neglected!

I didn't find this Motel especially cheap, regardless of other reviews. The owners/managers are very friendly, however this Motel is out-dated & in need of renovating. Everything about it says "cheap", from the uncomfortable beds, hard pancake flat pillows, superthin towels & outside extension cord running the width of the room, to supply plugins for the fridge & microwave. These 2 amenities only worked sporadically, as there was a short in the wires!! There was tiny ants in our bathroom & a shower curtain was used as a closet door, where 2 hangers were supplied for you. The pool is small but nice. However, it is not chlorinated water but salt water filled. Pool rules state do not swallow any water, as it's recycled, but without chlorination, one wonders, how safe it is to bathe in! The door to the room, which leads right onto a public walkway, had a chain lock that was broken & the door looked like it had been burglarized at one point. The Motel advertises a Shuttle service which it does not have, close to beach, which it is not & also advertises laundry facilities. There was a washing machine & dryer outside at the back of the motel.....I was afraid to ask if this was the laundry facilities. Would never stay there again & certainly would not recommend it.

Been staying at various motels along A1A in Ft. Lauderdale and Lauderdale by the Sea for many years..and tried a number of them, even the most expensive with all kinds of amenities. I am a senior citizen looking for a simple, clean, place to stay and happy to invite a friend to visit. This is my 3rd year at the Sun Deck Motel..and next year will be my fourth. This is a family run business who take a personal interest because its theirs. If anyone does not plan to drive around Florida, then skip the car rental and seve the money. Across the street is a Winn Dixie Supermarket, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, and major bank. Walk to the ocean is one block away. This is the owner's 16th year...pretty muchj says it all. I would only say give it a try, and if not happy plenty of others on the strip..

Room Tip: Stay on the upper sun deck area over looking th pool ... and you might not want to leave,

What can I say? You'll get what you paid. For a low price don't expect much. The owner is nice. Bathroom is dirty, towels worn out, very thin wall and very noisy since it is located right next to the highway ( there are a lot of others motels on this highway so I guess it will be noisy no matter what motel you choose) If you're a light sleeper ( like me) you should think twice about this but if you want to save some money and don't care too much about the facilities then stay here. Make your own choice!

The Sundeck is a beautiful property with an actual Sundeck on the second story, a pool and extremely clean rooms. Free WiFi, within walking distance to the beach, shops, grocery store, and restaurants (D&D, Italian, Greek). You definitely get your money's worth staying here.

The owner was friendly and accomodating, the deck overlooking the pool is great, the room was the cleanest we've stayed in in years, the pool was sparkling clear and only saw one or two people in it at any time. Chain drugstore and supermarket right accross the street, easy parking right in front of motel, and a 5 minute walk to the beach accross the street.
Wireless was functional but not the fastest (like anywhere), tv was adequate (how much do you watch on Ft. Laud beach anyway???), room had fridge, microwave, the standard ammenities.
Overall, 4 to 5 stars for the VERY reasonable (CHEAP!) rate we paid. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Room Tip: There are many good restaurants and "t-shirt shoppes" within a couple minutes stroll; over...
