We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper on January 20, one day before our cruise on the following day. Our travel agent had booked us at a hotel in Hollywood, FL and I read such awful reviews that I set out to make my own reservations. After I booked the Yankee Clipper, I read a lot of bad reviews and became very concerned, as I am a "clean freak". Not to worry! The place was very nice!! We requested a room with an Ocean view and we arrived at 1 pm and our room was ready. It was lovely! All that worry for nothing! I cannot speak for the other buildings, but if you requeat a room in the beach building, you will not be disappointed! We looked out our window and got to watch a lovely wedding right outside on the beach. It was a very pleasant stay! I would recommend it to anyone! I got the Yankee Clipper phone number and called them directly. I told them that I was looking for their absolute best deal. I got the room for $129. I think it pays to call the hotel direct.

We stayed here for two nights in mid January, before a cruise, and payed 210.00/night for a Ocean View room.

As we headed to our room with the bell hop, we arrived at our door to find it wide open.......he did not seemed concerned but it freaked us out a bit. There were tiny little bugs everywhere(due to the door being open???) The room stank, so he whipped out some air freshener to mask the smoke smell in our non-smoking room.

The carpet was badly stained and dingy...not just a few stains, but covered in stains.

Hair in the bathtub, and on the bathroom floor.

The bed-skirts on the bed were were dirty and gross.

The photo on the Hotels website of the guest rooms, looked
NOTHING like the room we had. They show nice rooms with floor to ceiling windows....we had a window that did not open, with a view that could be seen thru the trees.

It was very late by this point, and we decided to go have a cocktail in the bar before calling it a night. We sat down, and were ignored for over 10 minutes.....finally went to the bar to order, the bar tender was less than friendly.

Had dinner in the bar the next night......horrible service again...my food came, and it was cold.....my husbands did not arrive until a full 15 minutes later. No apolgies....they just did not seem to care.

The beach was nice, but due to a wedding being held on the beach, we were basically kicked out of the hotels beach area, and told we could not use the lounge chairs.

Most all the employess we ran into were not very friendly, and just indifferent....they just did not seem to care.

We were bummed, but still tried to make the best of it....I just expected more from Sheraton and paying 210.00/night. I have stayed in Super 8's that were nicer than this.

I just got back from my vacation at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper and had a fabulous time. I read the reviews on this site after I booked a room through Priceline (which can't be cancelled) and was absolutely depressed. I thought my vacation was ruined before it started. Since I depend so heavily on these reviews when selecting hotels I will try to give as much detail as I can to help you make a good decision about whether to stay or pass on this hotel.

1. Lobby: Yes, there was a slight mustiness to the lobby, but so faint that I think I only noticed it because I was expecting it. I was in and out of the lobby many times after check-in and I never thought of it again.

2. Buildings: There are 3 buildings. One is right on the beach with a pool and bar just steps away. One is the main building with a north and south tower and a pool . One is across the street connected by a skyway. I was in the south tower of the main building. Some of these rooms have a beach view and some don't. There was no mustiness. The carpets and elevators were clean. I did go through the skyway to get to the fitness room in the building across the street and the musty smell was very bad in the skyway. The fitness room wasn't that great either. I can only speculate that people who hate this hotel have been in a room in the building across the street.

3. Room condition: I had absolutely no complaint about the room. There was no musty smell or bleach smell. The furniture was not outdated. The beds were very cozy with a nice duvet rather than a bedspread. The bathroom was clean and had a very pretty granite topped vanity. The room was just what I would have expected and I can't understand all the negative reviews about the room.

4. Pool: Nothing spectacular. Even a lot of the cheap hotels have some tropical vegetation in the pool area but not here. That is probably why not too many people hang around the pool. The windows into the Shipwreck Bar are very cool though and my friend got a great picture of me underwater from inside the bar.

5. Beach location: In the south end of Ft. Lauderdale, this hotel and the Marriott are the only 2 that are right on the beach. They each have a private beach. The beach is also very wide here. Because the SYC is right on the beach, they have complimentary lounge chairs with cushions and towels. You can get a drink from the bar and drink it on the beach.

6. Food: We did not eat at the hotel. The Bahia Cabana is across the street. It is a nice little bar to get food or hang out at. About 1/2 mile up the street, there is an enclave of nice restaurants that serve all 3 meals. They are just steps from the beach. We loved eating at these restaurants and enjoying the view of the ocean. About a block or two up from there is the Beach Place shopping and eating complex. It has all the chain bars and some nice stores.

7. Service: I had no problems that needed fixing so I can't comment on that. The concierge and beach staff were very polite. The rooms were always adequately cleaned.

Next time I will try for a room at the Marriott on Priceline because the pool area is awesome. You will pay twice as much for the Marriott. If I can't get it then I will definitely return to this hotel.

Stayed here 1 night before getting on Ships and Dips cruise. Location is great! Beds are comfortable. Food was good. Someone had recently smoked in our non-smoking room so that was an allergy/asthma problem. Never had that before in a Sheraton.

Hotel has tons of great areas to hang out besides the beach.

If you want to stay on the beach in Ft Lauderdale, check out this hotel.

I've read a lot of reviews on this site abot how they don't like this hotel. I've stayed at this hotel more than once and have not been let down yet. I have high expectations, but I personally do not want to stay at one of those hotels where everything is prim & proper. This hotel is not the best in Fort Lauderdale, but everytime I go there I feel welcomed, happy and relaxed. What more can I ask for??? Sunshine, palm trees, sandy beaches and a clean/comfortable room. I would definitely stay here again. Great location.
