We stayed in the Clipper on the weekend of 9/18/05. We go to this hotel at least twice a year since we've discovered it in 2003.
I love it because it is right on the water and they also have great beachside bar (my hubby's favorite); they have great beds and awesome customer service; and what is the most important to me is the price is right. I like nice hotels, but hate spending more then $150 a night (oxymoron, I know). This is definetly not a luxury hotel, but the friendliness of the staff and great location more then compensate for it. We are in the prefferrred guest program now and we ALWAYS get a room with at least partial beach view.
I also disagree that it is not friendly to walkers... You can walk to Beach Place and tons of bars, restaurants, shops from here, admittedly, it is not a 5 min walk (more like 10-15) , but if you don't want to walk more then 5 min, how can you call yourself a walker? We have not rented a car once in all our trips to this city/hotel.
Overall, we LOVE this place and will come back for a short weekend gateway sometime in winter maybe.

P.S. The weather was FABULOUS during our stay - not a cloud in the sky in the morning, light breeze and some clouds in the afternoon, upper 80s and water in the 80s too... Just heavenly!

Nice friendly hotel, good service and great beds0 but no view in my room. (what can we expect for $79?).

It seems to be a hotel for families and groups of young people (under 25).

The LOCATION is okay. Fort Lauderdale, a city built for cars, is not friendly to walkers like me. So, if you want to go out you will need a car or take taxis. The WEATHER was terrible. September is not the time to visit Fort Lauderdale – it was very cloudy and rainy (but the beach is great).

They say Fort Lauderdale is gay friendly (really???). This is definitely not a gay destination (including this hotel) that I would recommend for gays/lesbians.

Cheers!

The Clipper is the best!!!!!! Stop by the Wreck Bar and say HI to Tom, he's the Clippers best bartender. If Donna is your waitress, give her a huge tip...she's so much fun, smiley and totally awesome at her job. We go back every year...because of employees like them!!! Say HI from Nancy & Robyn from Chicago.

I stayed at the sheraton yankee clipper on aug. 29th and had the best experience ever! I requested an early check-in but they told me it was at 3:00pm however Jose, at the front desk, went out of his way to get a room ready for us. after waiting for for about one hour we got the room and also an ocean view. We spent most of the time at the beach bar enjoying the view. The bartender Gil was very pleasant and accomodating he made us feel right at home, the only bad thing was that the food was kind of overprized. In the evening we got ready to go out so we stopped by the concierge and Randy recomended a couple of places to have fun; we took his advice and had a BLAST!!
The next morning we were missing some coffee mugs and we called down to the front desk and spoke to Sheela, she made it happen in matter of minutes!
My only concern during our stay was the price for parking 10.00!!?? might as well park in a public area right? but overall I had the best experience, and even though the rooms are a little bit outdated the only reason I would go back is because how welcoming the staff made us feel.

I stayed here for several days in late August. From the moment I walked in the front door, I was amazed first of all by the friendly, helpful staff. Everyone from the Front Desk agents to the extensive facilities staff smiled and greeted me. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The hotel has its own beach. There is a good restaurant on-site, an outdoor bar facing the beach where you can also order food, as well as other shops inside. For a hotel of this great size, it is very well run and maintained. I will return for sure.
