Fort Lauderdale is my and my husband's little getaway and the Sheraton Yankee Clipper is an integral part of it. This was our 7th visit to this hotel, and every visit has been enjoyable. As I read some of these posts, I wonder where these folks may have been staying. The staff is wonderful. In all 7 times, I have never encountered a rude staff member, only helpful and friendly people, with a special mention to Jerry at the beach bar. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. We never rent a car..it's just not necessary. The Bahai Cabana restaurant is just across the street - it is good, inexpensive and alot of fun. There are plenty of shops and restaurants that are just a 10 minute walk away or a $5 water taxi ride away. The beach is wonderful and I have no problem paying for clean lounge chairs and cabanas to sit under. Hey, at night they are free and available to sit on the beach and watch the stars and the ocean. The food at the beach bar is good, the deli is a huge convenience and overall, it is the perfect place for a few days of R & R.

My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper on the night before our cruise. We had a nice room overlooking the ocean and the price was decent. I have read some of the other postings here and cannot see why they are so negative. This is a nice place to stay, clean rooms, close to the beach and just far enough away from the nightlife to be quite but close enough to walk to the bars and restaurants.

My husband and I (in our early thirties) stayed at the Yankee Clipper on August 5-6, 2005 for a pre night stay before our cruise. It was a $13 taxi ride from the airport. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was. Our room had an ocean view, although it was explained to us that the beautiful view will be blocked in a few months when a condo complex is completed. The beach was literally a one minute walk away. The beach seemed clean and well maintained. We had a few beers and a huge plate of nachos (very good!) at the Shipwreck bar and it seemed to be a fun place to relax. Since we are not big breakfast eaters, we thought $23 for the breakfast buffet was a bit much so we grabbed breakfast from the on site 24 hour deli. The staff was friendly and eager to please. It is within walking distance of a few shops and eating establishments although not very many. You won't find familiar favorites such as Denny's or McDonalds within walking distance. Overall, I would recommend Yankee Clipper to my family and friends. It was just the right place to begin our vacation.

I'm not sure how Sheraton allows their name to continue to be used on this place. I had stayed at this hotel 20 years ago for spring break and decided to give it another shot when some buddies and I went down for a long weekend. Granted we weren't looking for much but when we found the place not looking much different than 20 years ago, it was a bit surprising. The place is not much to look at and the rooms are well below what I would expect at a Sheraton or at a Motel 6. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for something even semi-upscale, you'll be disappointed. It would be good for students and young folks that will be too drunk at night to realize how bad the rooms are.

On the plus side, it is on the beach and the pools were nice. Also the Wreck Bar was rocking day and night.
