Two weeks prior to our May 12th wedding, I called to make reservations, I explained that we were getting married on the beach at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper, and asked for a early check-in, I was told that check-in was at 3:00 p.m., but that due to our evening wedding that we could check-in between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m., this was great for us. We arrive at the hotel at 2:00 p.m., used the valet service, arrived at the check-in desk with lugage (wedding dress ect.) in hand, only to be greeted by a very rude young woman behind the desk, she informed us that check-in time was at 3:00 p.m., we explained our situation and that we had requested the earlier time, she said that we could wait, she took our cell phone number and said that they would call when we could check in, we check back at the desk every hour, (because they were not calling), only for her to be very rude each time. At 5:30 p.m. we meet with our wedding official in the lobby, because we still were not in our room, she went upstairs and spoke to someone that she knew in the office, and was told that the room had been ready for sometime. We get into our room at 6:00 p.m. at that point in a rush for our wedding. Our room was very average, stuffy, wet carpet in spots. Not what we expected for this hotel, we had stayed there before, so we trusted this hotel, but our feelings have completely changed, we stay in Ft Lauderdale about twice a month, and will not used this hotel again.

Stayed at the hotel May 27th-31st. We booked through travelocity and when we arrived at the hotel, we learned that our room was upgraded (downside: was a smoking room). The supervisor Bob was very accomodating. Bob offered that we see the room for ourselves and let him know if we were happy with it. He also provided us with a key to another room that was non-smoking. We arrived in the smoking room hallway and right away were thrown aback by the smoking smell. The room itself was huge with a beautiful ocean view, but the smoke smell was just too overpowering. We then visited the non-smoking room (which was on the 1st floor, downfall) and didn't care for it either as the carpet was stained dark from dirt ??? in some spots and the 2 beds were small (twin size). We spoke to Bob again voicing our disliking, so Bob then found us a room on the 4th floor with a partial ocean view and 1 king size bed (perfect). The room was clean.
The hotel is right on the beach, walking distance from A1A. It has 2 pools, 1 which is on the beach and is open 24 hours. Accomodating and helpful staff. A big thank you to Ricardo (concierge) who suggested and made reservations for us to 3 great restaurants. Thanks to Bob (the supervisor) very professional and helpful. And thanks Jerry (the bartender at the hotel's beach bar) who made delicious frozen margaritas!!!!
The downside, the hotel has old carpets all over and the housekeeping uses way too much air freshner and cleaners (not a pleasant smell).
All in all, we would stay there again.

My daughter (age 26) and I (her Mom) went on a Caribbean cruise and stayed at the Sheraton from March 7 - 9, 2005 before we went on our Princess cruise (which we LOVED). We were expecting the hotel to be much, much nicer than it was. The room wasn not very clean, it was the size of a motel room, and had an old musty smell to it and so did the hallway. We requested a view room and did get a corner room with a view.....but all the palm trees were blocking the ocean view.....it was still very pretty. The staff was superb....very friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for nicer people. The restraunt was almost empty when we went down for dinner. After we finished eating our dinner, I could understand why......the food was not very good and it was EXTREMELY expensive. If the food were real tasty, I would not have minded the price. Their key lime pie was HORRIBLE!! I don't recommend their restaurant. The location of the hotel was GREAT. The river boat was very close to the hotel.....and it was a lot of fun. Restaurants were also close and easy to walk to. I don't think I would stay at this hotel ever again......but it was a great place for my very first visit to Ft. Lauderdale....because it was easy to walk to everything and to become aquainted with the town. Ft. Lauderdale is a GREAT city!!

I just returned from 11 lazy days (May 6-17) of great service, nice and clean accomodations, many on-site amenities and being within walking distance of much - the SYC is a GREAT place to stay and value for the money. Some earlier reviews had me worried about this hotel selection but I am very pleased to report that my selection was wonderful. Taxi fare is reasonable from airport (about 10-15 minutes); no real need for a car unless you are planning on site-seeing and if you do, hotel can get you one quickly; water taxi ($5 all day) or just walking along the ocean wall is nice. Valet can have you a cab in no time. Highly recommend The Sea Watch for a sinful seafood dinner. Be sure to have the cream brullee for dessert! (It's like being in a tree house looking out over the ocean -- what a view!)

Stayed in beach building -- disappointed that "ocean view" was on an angle and that windows don't open, but room was always clean and comfortable. Nice view of the vollyball games. Bathroom is nice size and well stocked with towels, etc. - just wish it had a large make-up mirror below hairdryer! Had the use of a fridge which was great to store goodies from the on-site store. Some things expensive, but you are captive! A microwave in the room would have been a plus. Two nice bars (pool/ocean side) with very attentive and friendly staff. Great pool on 2nd floor -- very quiet and relaxing in early am -- nice secret! Plenty of chairs at both pools -- even chairs and umbrellas to rent on beach. I think the hotel leaves money on the table though by not providing beverage service on the beach. Was unimpressed with on-site main dining - but loved the bar and watching the swimmers.

Be sure to meet Fritz Frank, the consierge. He can guide you ANYWHERE and is a pretty funny guy! All the men that work valet, or as bellmen, the staff of the front desk, ladies that cleaned our room, folks that run the souvenier and food stores, and security guards have great attitudes, are friendly and efficient --what a plus!!

General Manager, James Pancallo, has a lot to be proud of. Nice property right on the beach, professional staff, secure surroundings -- my sister and I are already discussing a return. I can't wait!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Yankee Clipper from May 7th to May 9th. We had a great experience. We checked in at 10am-- hours early-- and the nice woman at the front desk even upgraded us to a room with an ocean view. Our room had super comfy 'Sweet Sleeper' beds and was nicely appointed. The hotel's 24 hour deli was convenient, as was the beachside bar/grill. The staff was also helpful. They gave us information about the water taxi, hailed a cab for us, and held our bags on the last day. Overall, we had a great vacation and enjoyed our stay immensely. I highly recommend the Yankee Clipper and Fort Lauderdale.
