We stayed here for a few nights (Jan 20-23) before setting sail on our cruise. Older, historical building. We had requested a king bed with a city view but ended up with two doubles and a view of the roof (we tried to change but the hotel was completely booked). Our room was in the older south building.

Location was hard to beat - one of the few "beachside" hotels that are actually on the beach (this and the Marriott next door) - the rest are across the street. Easy access, very spacious beach. $$$ for just about everything though - chair, cabana.

Room was pretty average - lower in quality compared to other Sheratons. On the small side, but clean. Beds were comfy enough. They claimed it was one of Sheraton's awesome Sweet Sleeper Beds but I'm not convinced it was.

Service was generally very good, especially the concierge - very helpful.

So it seems we was generally happy (which we were) so why only 3 stars? My 3 star rating is based on comparing this hotel to other hotels of this caliber (as it's not fair to compare it to a Best Western) - and compared to otehr Sheratons, it was very average.

this place is an absolute shocker. Filthy, hairs in the bathroom, rooms stink of musty old smells and horrid air freshener that makes you feel sick. we changed immediately to another bigger room but had to walk through the underground carpet to get to the elevators. Hotel is noisy, vagrants hang around the car park and even found one sleeping in a corridor. First room had burnt carpet and filthy grimey windows and peeling paint. Windows do not open so no chance of fresh air, no balconies. Nothing nearby to walk to for breakfast or a drink and in the worst part of Ft Lauderdale.

staff were nice but that was all. Do NOT go here unless you are nuts. There is nowhere to sit except the noisy bars. The hotel needs demolishing as a refurb would not help the awful layout.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

We just returned from an awful stay at the Yankee Clipper in Ft Lauderdale.
We were traveling with our 2 children (4 and 2). The rooms were tiny and the stench in them was unbearable (That's even before we put our bags down).

None of the windows opened and the air inside reeked of stale cleaner.

Most of the people at the hotel were from Cruise ships or were drunks who spent the day smoking at the bar.

Not a great place for families or other clean cut types

I stayed at the Yankee Clipper during a conference in Ft Lauderdale. I have stayed at many hotels in Miami, and wanted to try a Ft Lauderdale hotel instead. I am so sorry I did. The hotel is dark and musty, and you would expect more for your money. There is no mini-bar and VERY limited food/drinks at the pool. I stayed in one of the most expensive rooms on the top floor, but still found the hotel very depressing. Sheraton needs to throw some money into this hotel - it really needs a facelift.

Some of the staff at the restaurant were very nice, but they do not make up for the complete rudeness and lack-of-urgency of the other hotel staff.

Please save the frustration and stay somewhere else.

Stayed 5 LONG days at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. Had to walk through the parking garage each morning across the street to get coffee, no lobby or services in our tower even though we were on the SPG floor. $5.00 a day for a beach chair, $10 for internet access. Marriott Harbor beach across the street is BEAUTIFUL, stay there. Pools and beach were nothing special, staff tries very hard to please.
