We just got back from an AMAZING 6 night stay at the Yankee Clipper. Everyone there was incredibly helpful and friendly (except for one grouchy bartender by the pool). We got an amazing deal for the whole stay, at Priceline.com and even though we bought our room through a "wholesaler", we mentioned to the check in agent (who happened to be the manager) that we were there to celebrate our 10th anniversarry, and they upgraded us to the beach bulding (there are 4 or 5 different buildings) in a delux room (beach view). It took us about 4 minutes to get to the beach from our room, very nice.
The Marriot Harbour Beach resort and spa is next door and we considered going there (it would have cost us an additional $300 for the whole time) and I am SO glad that we did not!! I have heard that the rooms there are actually smaller, and the hotel is not REALLY that much nicer than the Yankee Clipper. The pool is much nicer, but honestly, we walked over there one day and it was JAM PACKED. We could have taken a dip there if we really wanted. I prefered to swim in the perfect beachfront which is as good or better at Yankee Clipper than at the Marriot.
One day we rented a sailboat from a company that is right between the Marriot and the Yankee Clipper. IT was kind of steep in price, but worth it for an hour of pure heaven navigating the crystal blue waters on a beautiful day.
Another day we paid the $15 fee to rent a cabana in front of the hotel and just luonged/swam the whole day.
Another day we took the easily accessible public transportation (definately take the water taxis to Las Olas and downtown!!). to Commercial Boulevard and had an amazing day snorkeling 100 yards from the beach (no need to pay $35 to take a boat snorkeling, we brought our own gear and had an amazing time right on the beach at Commercial Boulevard).
An amazing time!! We would definately visit again. Staff was amazing and the accomodations where very good. What else do you want! It is in a great location RIGHT on the beach.
