We were looking for an affordable hotel, without having to sacrifice value and location. With today's travel costs, there wasn't much of a choice but our travel agent recommended the Yankee clipper for its location and beach front.

We were given a room accross the street from the main building, so like many people mention on their reviews here (which we had read prior to going), we had to treck across a walkway everytime we needed to go to the lobby or the beach. BUT I must say, maybe because we were prepared for the possibility of this, we really didn't mind so much. We figured, we're on vacation, what's the hurry, it's only an extra 10 minutes to walk to the beach, who cares...? Plus our room had great big windonws with full view of the beach accross the way.

The beach front really is great, and the location is fantastic, very very close to Las Olas Blvd and the wonderful Ft. Lauderdale never-ending beach front is priceless. However, my husband and I did have some problems. While we found some of the staff very friendly, some really were not that helpful. The business center they have available charges for using the internet and I had thought it was one of the included ammenities... not so. The hotel itself is a bit run-down and the rooms have definitely seen a lot of use. We had to change rooms at one point because I kept waking up with bites, and I had room service come and change the sheets right before we went to bed, thinking of course it was bed bugs... but the next day I had bites again... I called to complain and a manager as well as a security guard came to search the room and take a statement, they were very thorough and pulled the headboard out, checked everywhere but found nothing. They still however went ahead and switched our rooms, this time in the main building. The room was better but it was older, it was on the second floor, which led to an sort of courtyard/sitting area (which was REALLY noisy with people drinking on Saturday night) and it smelled of cigarette smoke. Not wanting to make more of a fuss and wanting to get on with our day we decided to just grin and bear it and head for the beach.

No more bug bites, still enjoyed the beach and our stay in Ft. Lauderdale was a LOT of fun. This hotel was very affordable compared to what we found at the time, especially for the location and it really was a decent stay.

We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper from Dec 23 to December 30/07
We had an ocean view room which was great! Literally 2 minute walk to the beach. (beach front hotel) When we got there the room was ready and the staff were very friendly.
The hotel itself could use some upgrades but other then that it was clean, the gym had clean towels, the rooms were cleaned daily and on time by the very friendly cleaning ladies! The front desk was very helpful anytime we called (wake up calls / coffee etc) The gentlement on the beach were quick to find you a lawn chair and an umbrella so we had a great time on the beach!
I would definately book with them again!

Tripadvisor from Northern Ireland.
My husband and i stayed at he Clipper from the 27th July-31st July 08 after our cruise. The reception staff were very nice indeed.
We had arrived about 9.20am so we knew that our room wouldn't be ready but the concierge kept our luggage in a locked storage room for us while we went for a walk to explore our surroundings and the when we came back a short time later it was all ready for us. We were in the main building in room 637 and first when you walked in there was a funny smell as everyone now knows the windows do not open which is terrible. Anyway we put our things away and the air-conditioning had been on and the room was like an icicle so we turned it off and i changed my shoes and the whole carpet was wet. It was like this every time the a/cond was on and when turned off overnight the carpet stayed dry.
We had a lovely view of the ocean and a great view of the street ahead so all was well. The fan in the bathroom also didn't work, and there was permanent stains in the bath. The pool area at the hotel was not very nice but the 2nd pool at the beach was lovely. They also gave you beach towels and there was attendants on the beach to give you a lounger.
We had breakfast on two occasions and both were very nice, and dinner in the wreck bar one night which also was nice, the bar itself has fish tanks all round and you can see people swimming above from the pool. But the bar was very dark and the a/cond was freezing and i know some people might like it that way as the temp outside was boiling but i found it a bit too cold for my liking.
The carpet was terrible in the area where you go up to the pool but on the day we were leaving they were changing it so it did look alot better. You would need a car to get around as i didn't think there was much to Ft Lauderdale other than lie at the pool or beach. We did catch the bus to Sawgrass Mall so that made up for everything else as the shopping there was fantastic.

Just got back from a stay at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. Let me tell you that the beach is wonderful. But the hotel could use a little upgrading. For instance, our rug was stained and worn, the bathroom vanity was chipped, the mirror was chipped, the windows were dirty, etc. But for two nights, it was okay. I wouldnt say GREAT, but just okay. Be warned that the pool is on the small side and there is not much shade. If you want to go to the beach area, the charge for an umbrella is $10.00. Also, the restaurant in the hotel is VERY expensive for dinner.

The stay was far better than some of the reviews indicated it might be. Front Desk staff was very friendly as were all the staff overall. Room 537 was directly across from the elevator and that raised a red flag for me, but I never heard the elevator b/c there were no loud "dings" when the elevators arrived on the floor. Other than discourteous people who seem to forget that others might be sleeping, we really had no noise problems. The room had a very nice partial oceanview. The bedding was excellent and the room decor was nicer than the overall interior decor of the hotel lobby and floors. Starbucks coffee packes in the room and easy access to ice and drink machines ($2.00 per soda!) Parking was $12.00 self park) and you learn the maze to get to/from parking. The hotel is comprised of 4 buildings which shouldn't be a concern as a guest is only concerned with parking and the building in which their room is located! Clippers steakhouse was pricy and we didn't eat there.

This is the only hotel ON THE BEACH as others are across the street from the ocean. I took advantage of the free lounge chairs provided on the beach by the Sheraton. Rented an unbrella for $10 per day. Easy access to a beach bar at the oceanfront pool deck. Good grilled hamburger baskets for purchase there as well as drinks.

I'd definitely stay again. PARKING however.. is better for the small cars. it was TIGHT and on crowded days i'd have to park on the uncovered upper 5th deck.
