Have stayed at both Yankee Trader and Clipper in Ft. Lauderdale. This was Feb 2004 stay at Clipper. Found staff very helpful. Only had smoking rooms when booking...but nice person at front desk found me a non-smoking room at check in. Had a slow draining shower at check in and called desk---it was fixed before returning to our room later that day and they awarded me 500 Starpoints for the inconvenience. Liked getting the local paper and WSJ in the morning, as well. Hotel is right on beach and a short 1/2 mile walk to all shops along the beach and Las Olas BLVD. Has multiple volleyball courts on beach. 2 pools. Great that they had people at the main pool who played games with the kids (no "camp charges"). My 11 and 9 year old had a great time. Breakfast buffet could be better, but it's convenient. Bar with windows on pool is cool (DeNiro/Crystal "Analyze That" filmed a scene there). Self parking was $ 7/day and I was able to park around back, right near our room. 24 hour deli with Starbucks coffee was great to have, as well. Paid about $ 130/night with Starwood preferred deal (1/2 price with 1000 star points). A few nights were $ 45/night with 2,750 starpoints. No, this is not the Hyatt Regency. But it IS a great family hotel and a bargain for Ft. Lauderdale---especially since there are very few hotels right on the beach (most require that you cross the street from the hotel to access the beach and some sections of beach are very narrow in Ft. Lauderdale...but not here).

I stayed at the Yankee Clipper for 1 night 2/15 and thought it was great. The staff was very nice. Our room had a slight ocean & cruise ship view. The bed was wonderful. I booked this hotel on Hotwire so the rate was super. We loved the walk to the shops and rode the beautiful water taxi at night to dine on the water. I would definitely stay there again if I'm ever in Lauderdale.

My husband and I stayed at the Yankee Clipper last Saturday night and
were very disappointed. My heart dropped when the cab pulled up in
front of the hotel. It is very unimpressive and dated. We went up to
the second floor and for some reason couldn't find our room, room 205.
Then my husband pointed out a creaky old door window to a dilapidated
looking court area with rooms that are accessed by the outside, like a
budget hotel from the 70's and sure enough, there we were. There was a
giant concrete center area with a few chairs but just looked like a
former pool area that got filled in. You could barely open our or close
our door and when we entered, the room smelled horribly of smoke and
overlooked the busy street below. We decided since we were only
spending one night there before moving to the marriott, that we would
make the best of it.
We walked down fifteen corridors to get to an outside door that had you walk past a small parking lot in the back to get to the beach, which is basically next to a public beach and had a lot of very young people partying there. The back bar area was cramped and we couldn't find a spot to sit. We walked next door to the marriott to enjoy their facilities which were a lot better. The Clipper just reminded me of a spring break party place. The restaurant was pretty expensive with a limited menu. The buffett was expensive but had your basic foods- bacon, eggs, sausage, muffins, etc. The line for the buffet was cramped and clogged up the area where the servers enter the kitchen. I decided to forego a decond trip up to the buffett for that reason alone.
When we left and went to the marriott the next day, we unpacked ur bags and they smelled so badly of smoke, we tried to air out our clothes onto the balcony of the marriott, but it barely helped.
Oddly, our bathroom was super nice in the Clipper room. Recently redone.

Overall, the place just had a weird feel to it. I had read about the
Wreck bar and it really wasn't anything impressive. Late Sat night
there was a guy singing and as we walked by. He was sitting on some
drum type thing and sorta bouncing around and banging it while some
drunken people cheered him on. Seemed like a bad flashback to a college
party I'd like to forget. Just wanted to get out of there as fast as I
could.

I've stayed at the Yankee Clipper. I enjoyed my stay thinking back to the days when I saw the movie "Where the Boys Are" which was filmed there. Kids will love it because it's shaped like a ship. I enjoyed the famous bar with the window behind the bar looking into the swimming pool. It's an older property, so, don't expect the Bellagio, but then, you won't be paying $200-$300 per night either.

This hotel is in a really good spot. It's directly on the beach, probably the widest and most family-oriented part of the strip. The hotel has two pools, one of which is just steps from the beach. There is a bar next to that pool and a place to get food (they even barbeque there). I rented a car and self-parked it, which I thought was more convenient. It only cost $7.00 a day. (The hotel is five minutes from the airport) You are walking distance to the hot spots on the strip, where there are many restaurants, hotels and bars to enjoy. I would suggest walking because parking can be a problem. Getting back to the hotel.....Upon first driving up to it, I was disappointed. The hotel is old, but well kept. They were painting the buildings while I was there (there are many buildings). The main lobby surprised me. It's very small and not impressive, but, my room, which was on the 11th floor (top floor) was a really nice room. My view of the marina was really beautiful, especially at night, and the bed was the MOST comfortable bed I've slept in yet. It's worth staying here just for the bed. The restaurant has very, very good food, and there is outdoor dining if that's what you prefer. There are two bars in the lobby area and a 24-hour deli (more like a convenience shop) which actually was very convenient. I probably said more than I needed to say about the Clipper, but, if you're as picky as I am and depend upon these reviews, like I do, then hopefully you will get the picture. This hotel is really one of the nicest, all around. I'll definitely return. Hope this helped.
