Have stayed at both Yankee Trader and Clipper in Ft. Lauderdale. This was Feb 2004 stay at Clipper. Found staff very helpful. Only had smoking rooms when booking...but nice person at front desk found me a non-smoking room at check in. Had a slow draining shower at check in and called desk---it was fixed before returning to our room later that day and they awarded me 500 Starpoints for the inconvenience. Liked getting the local paper and WSJ in the morning, as well. Hotel is right on beach and a short 1/2 mile walk to all shops along the beach and Las Olas BLVD. Has multiple volleyball courts on beach. 2 pools. Great that they had people at the main pool who played games with the kids (no "camp charges"). My 11 and 9 year old had a great time. Breakfast buffet could be better, but it's convenient. Bar with windows on pool is cool (DeNiro/Crystal "Analyze That" filmed a scene there). Self parking was $ 7/day and I was able to park around back, right near our room. 24 hour deli with Starbucks coffee was great to have, as well. Paid about $ 130/night with Starwood preferred deal (1/2 price with 1000 star points). A few nights were $ 45/night with 2,750 starpoints. No, this is not the Hyatt Regency. But it IS a great family hotel and a bargain for Ft. Lauderdale---especially since there are very few hotels right on the beach (most require that you cross the street from the hotel to access the beach and some sections of beach are very narrow in Ft. Lauderdale...but not here).
