“Great Location but a little noisy.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

As an adult couple looking for a long weekend getaway we chose this hotel based on location and also easy access to downtown Fort Lauderdale and close to friends who live in the area.
The staff are lovely and the hotel is very clean. We stayed in the beach tower and the rooms were extremely quiet which was a relief as the hotel was full of families and young children.
My husband and I spent most of our day away from the hotel, and had we not we would most likely have had to check out as this hotel is NOT for am adult getaway. It is meant strictly for families. The pool deck is relatively small and cramped from head to toe with chairs and the pool full of children. There is another quiet pool on a different floor but it feels like a gymn pool as there is no bar service and does not feel like a resort.
Walking into the lobby there are several restaurants and bars all with blasting loud music and there is nowhere to sit for a nice quiet cocktail.
The room was very comfortable but I was extremely disappointed to see that none of the windows opened to enjoy the sea air. I found the room to be very dry which is unusual for Florida.
Having said all of that, for the price we paid and thank goodness we did find a deal, we would return to this hotel if we did not have to stay at the hotel during they day. Otherwise we would have to find another more suitable location for a middle aged professional couple looking for a nice weekend of rest and relaxation. Also I was surprised to see this location did not have a club floor section.

We stayed here for a night before departing for a cruise. Large resort located on the beach, but a distance from the cruise terminal. The hotel has a fun history with a bar that has port holes looking under the water of the pool dating from the 50's. Had a very fun "old florida" feel to it. Hotel was very lively with a great Mexican restaurant. We were in the older section of the hotel where rooms were fairly large, but basic. There was a newer section to the hotel. Very nice with a coffee bar in the lobby. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. They did do a great job of organizing all the many cruise passengers into cabs to the terminal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newer section unless you are passing through as we were.

I had my heart set on staying at the Hilton because I knew how nice it was (had been there before). However, given the time of year I was going, the Hilton's prices were ridiculous so I compared a few places. Among the top few that I narrowed it down to, I chose the Sheraton due to it having "beach access" and decent prices. I had second thoughts about right after I hit confirm and was about to change the whole package, but then read the reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a chance. WOW, am I glad that I did. Hands down, top of the line service all around, which was the reason why I didn't change my reservation (because other travelers had said the same). Every single employee that we encountered, from the Parking Garage Attendant, to the Front Desk Attendants, to the Bell Boy, and all the way to the Beach Guys... polite, helpful, accommodating, friendly and professional!! It really made a difference. Plus, the cherry on top was the fact that the beds were clean and very comfortable.

My only suggestion to future guests is to recommend to be booked into the Beach Tower if you want to be close to the beach. There are 4 different buildings, one of which (the Marina Tower) is across the street (as are most of the hotels in Fort Lauderdale, including the Hilton). Also, depending on which you are booked into, the rooms may be a little different. The Main Building and South Tower would probably be okay, but I didn't see them personally.

I will book here again!

Room Tip: Request the Beach Tower if you want to be closest to the beach.

We would expect a beach hotel to smell beachy and be sandy. We do not expect to walk all over the place to get to our hotel room....Through the lobby, through the restaurant area, outside, across the parking lot....the towers were so spread out and confusing!! The hotel room had a table that someone took a hatchet too. The room seemed as though it was a hodge podge of furniture...weird. For a night it was fine....not more than one night though. I did eat at the Mexican restaurant which was good but way to dark(no lighting).

We stayed at The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach for one night before embarking on a cruise mid January, 2013: this was the final leg of our honeymoon. Here are the Pros and Cons:
Pros:
The Mexican Restaurant, Dos Caminos, that is just past the lobby is great - great happy hour specials, fantastic staff and the food is authentic Mexican. We also got a continental breakfast package included in the price - the breakfast was held in the same location, and whist simple, was fresh and great after a big dinner of Mexican the night before. (There were other patrons with cooked breakfasts and they looked tasty.)
The Location: great for a Pre cruise stay and very close to a lovely beach, perfect for swimming or walking. Just a short taxi ride to the Port Everglades, where the boats dock.
The Staff: the staff were very friendly and very helpful in general.
The size of the rooms: very large, spacious and open rooms. We had a room on the fifth floor. The accommodation is in a separate building to the lobby/reception and restaurant. It is connected via an overhead walkway. Be aware of this if you have mobility problems.

The Cons:
The Apearance: whilst this is an older building/s that have had some extensive renovations (the lobby looks great), the rooms are still a little shabby. The outside seemed tired and unimpressive.
The Bathroom: whilst the bathroom was a good size, we had no water pressure whatsoever and had to run around to get wet.
A strange booking: when we arrived, the lovely lady at reception checked with us that we were staying two nights. we informed her that, no we were only staying for one as we had a cruise to catch the following day. She informed us that we had been booked in for, and had paid for, two nights. (this was the fault of the travel agent back in Australia, not the Sheraton. Also, we had thought it rather strange that one nights accommodation was so pricey) we asked her if we could have a print out as proof to give to our travel agent so that we could get our money back. She explained that she couldn't as we would then see the price we had paid (????) as they were dealers through a third party. We agreed that we understood this, but could we please have some kind of proof that we had paid for two nights, but we're only staying for one? She was not able to do this, but said that it had been fixed and she would deal with it. When we went to check out, we went through the same ordeal with another staff member who asked us why we were checking out early. She had clearly not changed anything about our booking.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay (albeit costly seei we had paid for two nights and stayed one!) We have stayed at over ten other Sheraton resorts around the world, and whilst this was nice, it was not up to the Sheraton Standard that we have come to expect.
