Stayed 6 nights with my Mum & 2 year old son in a Twin room in the beachfront building (which you cross a small car park to get to).

Room fairly spacious with an ok bathroom, fitings a little old (bath plug v stiff), but plenty of hot water & good pressure. Beds comfortable 4 pillows plus cushion - colour scheme bright blue & neutrals all very pleasant. Room could do with a light refurb as there was a hole in the carpet, a missing ceiling tile & a bit of wood furniture skirting missing. Small old fridge hire $10 per night but you can fit wine bottles & large water bottles in. Large floor to ceiling windows & no bacony (good 4 toddlers). Quiet efficient air con.

Moved (for last day so we could check out at 6pm) to more motel style room in building acessed by lift from reception - outside walkways overlook 2nd quiet pool & large table & chair covered terrace. Rooms are very slightly smaller with individual air con units under windows with lovely full beach & Ocean view.

Breakfast not bad some staff very friendly, 5* fresh OJ, made while u wait omlette station, a decent hot & cold buffet plus many extras available to order included in the $18 price. Eat in the restaurant or out on a small roadside terrace Highchairs, colouring packs & free buffet for under 3's!

Hotel restaurant not great - simple stuff was ok as was Bar food. But they should look at getting a new chef.

Poolside Beach Bar Bar-B-Q was fine - burgers, fish, sausage & prawns served with rolls, pickles, dressings, relishes & potato chips (crisps not french fries)!

Small business centre, unexciting gift shop & deli (open til 2am). Helpful & efficient Concierge & Bell Boy service.

Unusual 'under water' internal bar. Lots of fish tanks everywhere and a view into the beachside pool. Decor dark wood shipwreck style. Very casual no problem for a 2 year old to run around in there day or night as it is open plan onto the walkway through the main building that houses all the amenities. Nice tropical fish tank also outside restaurant really exciting for kids who all seemed to love it!

Beach Bar open til 5pm - reasonably priced (cocktails $8) offers beach service & the Bar-B-Q menu til 3.30pm.

Beachside pool small but seldom busy & warm as a bath so perfect for kids.

The best thing about this Hotel is the beach, which is almost private so safe for kids. It is at the quiet end of FLL beach adjacent to South Beach Park where there are Bar-B-Qs if you want to shop for food at the nearby Publix (10 mins drive) or closest 7-11 (10 mins walk). There is also a a small kiddies play area with slides & a climbing frame. the Hotel puts out sun shades under trees on the beach & a selection of toys each day for kids to play with which means you can relax a few feet away in the sun whilst they play happliy.

Location is easily walkable to bars & restaurants if you want any tips email me!

All in all a good basic beach Hotel - don't go expecting anything flashy & you won't be dissapointed!

Perks and Quirks

Perks and quirks, mixed reaction

The hotel: a maze of several adjacent and some what interconnected buildings. Three on the beach side of street. The fourth is across the street along with the parking garage, and is connected by a cat walk. The decor and lay out reminded me of the old days where creepy sales men in plaid suits held their meeitings. Definately could use an update around the lounge areas and in most of the common hallways.
Perk> One building actually fronts the beach.
Quirk> It was hard to navigate from building 4 through the others to the beach area.

The Room: Located in building across the street, had a great view of the harbor/beach from the big windows. The down side to the great windows/view came at night. The room was ok.
Perk> the beds were great, the bath room was huge.
Quirk> thanks to the large windows, the noise from the street and bar below, complete with band, went on until 3am.

The Pool and Beach: There are two pools, main and beach
There is complimentary beach service offered by the hotel. This includes chairs and towels. There are also chair canopies and umbrellas available. The beach pool was surrounded by those creepy sales men just off their cruise or ready to go on one.
Perk>. The beach service amenities helped offer the much needed oasis away from the pool area.
Quirk> The main pool was surrounded on three sides by building and doesn't get much sun.

Other Stuff: rumor had it that the Seafood and Steak restuarant, in the hotel, is good. We opted to head over the Los Olas/downtown area for a meal at "Louis Louis" Italian restaurant. It gets 5* from us, The food was great and plentiful, the drinks were stiff, and the prices were moderate.

Overall: This end of Fort L beach is more residential and is not heavy on beach adjacent hotels. Considering this, it is not overpriced.

I will just list the problems:

1. Rude employee checking us in.
2. Room overlooked the parking lot, we reserved ocean front.
3. Terrible smell in the room.
4. Stains on the carpet.
5. Toe nail clippings in the rug.
6. Burn holes in the linen.

We were supposed to have stayed for a week. We checked out after one night and then they wanted to charge us for an early departure.

This is one gross hotel!

We stayed here one night before our cruise because the Sheraton is a good name and is on the beach. When we arrived we were told that there were no non smoking rooms available even though we had booked through Expedia.ca and requested one. We were not compensated because we were told that because we booked through expedia rather than directly with the sheraton number there was nothing they could do. The smoking floor stank so bad that we all had a case of stuffy noses the next day. My husband is a smoker and he couldn't stand it. Now for the good part, the beds were comfortable but small, there were no queens just doubles. The best thing about the hotel was the beach. It was huge and wonderful. All in all we were glad that we only stayed the one night and would never stay there again.

We had a quick stay overnight before our cruise. The staff was friendly and treated us well. However, I felt the hotel really was a disappointment for being a Sheraton. I frequently stay at Sheraton hotels, and have always been very happy, but I was surprised by the low quality of this hotel. The only consolation is that I think a lot of hotels in Fort Lauderdale need repair and upgrading. It certainly didn't make me want to go back to Fort Lauderdale for a holiday.
