We stayed at the Clipper from 8/28 thru 9/4 and we had a great time.
Hotel itself has great location- right on beach, rooms are neat/clean.
Maid was very good-cleaning everyday/even waiting till afternoon to come in after we left. View was part beach/part beach tower, but all-in-all good for our rate. Staff is very courteous and friendly, 24-hr. deli was a god-send (although 1 or 2 late night /early monrning staff not courteous-not even responding to a "good morning" or acknowledging you). We used it for breakfast everyday since it was well-priced for a quick bite vs. the mediocre $10.50 buffet (+ tax/tip) which was the same everyday. Main pool closed for 3 of the 8 weekdays we stayed -construction around pool-but there is a second pool (which might seem wierd until you find out its a salt-water pool right on the beach!) Area is good for tourists, mid-priced and you can walk to the shops on A1A(street where hotel is located)-about 10 mins. north of hotel. The "Beach Place" is 5 mins. further north on A1A - a collection of shops, bars, restuarants-where there is a McDonalds! DO NOT got to the rest. "Pastabilities" for Italian. The only good thing about this place was the night bar/bartender. "Pastabilities" staff was VERY inept and rude. We waited 15 mins. to order a coke/food with no one acknowledging us-not even the manager who seated us. We finally stood up and called soemone over, who told us to wait for another waiter, finally our food came with no drinks. We ordered coke again and asked for a bottle of ketchup-I had to wait for a table to be cleared then they gave me the ketchup from it as an afterthought. Still no coke-1/2 hr. later we asked for coke again and waiter acted like he was getting it and it was our problem for badgering him! The food was no good anyway-if not just plain bad. It was horrible service and we started to wonder if our standards were just too high, but most other area rest.
were great compared to this joke. "Johnny Rockets" on the riverfront had exceptional service. A water-taxi stop is very close-inside the motel across the street and convenient for getting to the riverfront with lots of shops and restuarants (40 mins. away on water taxi with satff pointing out the landmarks/homes of the rich). We loved this area, its very relaxing and we would stay again. The Clipper is great, very convenient for beach, shops and water taxi, and we would stay here next time. Enjoy your trip!
