We stayed at the Yankee Clipper for a 3 night stay in Fort Lauderdale. Having read the reviews I considered changing to an alternative hotel - and I am so glad I didn't.

We were celebrating a special occasion on our arrival day and I had contacted the hotel in advance. They placed a bottle of sparkling wine with a lovely greeting in the room.

We had no problems with check-in, although we had to wait around 10 minutes as the staff were busy. The reception area can get congested - but let's face it who goes on holiday to hang round a reception desk when there is a beautiful area to discover!

Our room was in the south tower overlooking the beach - which was perfect. It was a short walk from the main entrance to the hotel - but great for getting to the beach and the swimming pools. The room itself was spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean with modern furniture and very comfortable beds. Maids were in every day promptly. A pleasant retreat after a relaxing day on the beach or after burning out the credit card at the many many shops.

The services provided by the hotel were first class. The staff are all friendly and courteous. The hotel bar has a great feel and serves meals and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. The food is good, big portions and very reasonably priced, as far as hotels go! We only ate breakfast in the main reestaurant - which if I am honest the buffet is slightly overpriced, but again the quality was great albeit the choice somewhat limited. The complimentary loungers on the beach were great and very easy to find a spot at most times of the day. Even when the beach area was busy, there was still lots of space for everyone to enjoy their time! The small deli is open all day (I think it is 6am-3am) and sells everything from beer to hot dogs, coffee, sandwiches and fresh cookies. The gift shop has anything you may have forgotten to take with you.

The location also lends to a great stay in Fort lauderdale. There are a few small bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity - with a great choice about a 15 minute stroll along the beach promenade, at the foot of Las Olas on the beachfront. Don't make the mistake we did and walk to the main shopping on Las Olas blvd - it is a lot further than it looks.

I would throughly recommend this hotel to anyone and I am already planning a return trip!

Go and have a great time!

This hotel is a Sheraton by name only. It definitely does not have the same standards as true Sheraton hotels which I stay in about 2 times per month.

The lobby is outdated and small. To get to your room you have to walk a long way past a restaurant and then outside, crossing a parking lot. The lobby and restaurant area on the way to the rooms smells old, nasty and like stale beer that has spilled on the carpet.

The room was dirty, and the furniture was worn. The worst experience of all was that our mattress was soiled with urine. The maid must have changed the sheets but that's it. When we got into bed the urine seeped through the sheets and onto my pajamas. It was so disgusting I threw my pajamas away. We changed rooms at 11PM at night which was a real pain in the neck.

I've attached a pic of the bed sheets with the urine.

This is pretty nice place with a good location and not far from the airport. We our stay despite the issues we encountered.

The first issue was with out check-in. We arrived at 2:30 p.m. and had to wait nearly two hours for our room to be ready. The front desk was very apologetic about the delay and were pretty easy to deal with. However, It was annoying to see other people arrive and get their rooms without delay.

When we finally got to our room, it was fine. We had a nice view of the beach and the ocean and the room was in good shape and well maintained. The Sheraton dream bed was wonderful. The bathroom was a tad small but we managed.

The television reception was not too great. Some stations came in fine and others were a bit fuzzy. Of course, the channels we wanted to watch at night had reception trouble. I did call to complain but was told that there was nothing that could be done.

We returned to our room one evening to find no shampoo or soap being left by housekeeping. We called and got it delivered to our room very quickly which was fine. The housekeeping staff likes to get an early start so don’t be too surprised should they knock on your door early seeing if they can clean the room. One morning, they woke us up.

The walls in this hotel are also paper-thin. On more than a few occasions, we could hear other peoples’ conversations loud and clear including some drunks next door to us.

There is a restaurant here which was okay for breakfast even though it was a bit pricey. It’s buffet style and does have an omelet station. You are within walking distance to some very good restaurants though. The bar was nice and you can see inside the pool that is right above it. Remember that if swimming in there!

The hotel is old and needs work. Some of the elevator areas are showing a lot of wear and tear. Some of the hallways have numerous scratches and marks. The pools (there are two here) were fine and the private beach was wonderful. There is a bar by the beach that does a pretty brisk business.

The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly.

The hotel is made up of three buildings. One is a smaller one right by the beach, alarger main building (ours) and one across the street connected by a walkway. It can be a bit of a walk to the beach and pool especially if you are across the street. There is self and valet parking. Use the valet as it’s easier to get your car especially if you plan on using it often.

The reception area can get very busy at times as many airline personnel stay here as do many people who are coming to and from cruises. The concierge desk is very helpful.

Word to the wise. Be cautious here during football season and especially on weekends when the Dolphins are home. This is a very popular place for out of town fans to stay when they fly in to watch their team play on the road. A lot of visiting fans were here who quickly took over the beach and the nearby pool. There were quite a few drunks and it appeared that many of them were traveling as part of large groups. As a result of the presence of those fans, we stayed away from that area after we left due to their behavior. It appeared that no one from Sheraton was willing or brave enough to intervene as many were so drunk that they were out of control. That’s not good as many parents were there with their kids who we noticed leaving.

I would stay here again due to the location and the beach but not during football season. Hopefully, Sheraton renovates this place as it really needs it.

The Sheraton Yankee Clipper is a great place to stay with teenagers. It is right on the beach, walking distance to shopping, eating and nightlife. The Clipper is a 3 star which is accurate. It offers beach chairs for rent, lunch barbecue, a little store which has coffee, ice cream, drinks, little of everything. This is handy. I love the fact that you do not have to rent a car, everything is right near you, Los Olas Blvd, A1A, the beach. I felt it was affordable. We go during the week of July 4th, the fireworks over the ocean are the best.

  • Liked — Affordable, right on the beach, no need for rental car
  • Disliked — The gift shop was overpriced

It was three girls staying in one room, but the room was of ample size. The beds were very nice and comfortable. The view was awesome from the third floor. The bar with a peek into the swimming pool was awesome! People really should be advised that the WHOLE bar can see everything they are doing under the water. Very nice area and close to the bars.
What happens on a girls vacation stays there.
