We stayed at the Yankee Clipper for a 3 night stay in Fort Lauderdale. Having read the reviews I considered changing to an alternative hotel - and I am so glad I didn't.
We were celebrating a special occasion on our arrival day and I had contacted the hotel in advance. They placed a bottle of sparkling wine with a lovely greeting in the room.
We had no problems with check-in, although we had to wait around 10 minutes as the staff were busy. The reception area can get congested - but let's face it who goes on holiday to hang round a reception desk when there is a beautiful area to discover!
Our room was in the south tower overlooking the beach - which was perfect. It was a short walk from the main entrance to the hotel - but great for getting to the beach and the swimming pools. The room itself was spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean with modern furniture and very comfortable beds. Maids were in every day promptly. A pleasant retreat after a relaxing day on the beach or after burning out the credit card at the many many shops.
The services provided by the hotel were first class. The staff are all friendly and courteous. The hotel bar has a great feel and serves meals and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. The food is good, big portions and very reasonably priced, as far as hotels go! We only ate breakfast in the main reestaurant - which if I am honest the buffet is slightly overpriced, but again the quality was great albeit the choice somewhat limited. The complimentary loungers on the beach were great and very easy to find a spot at most times of the day. Even when the beach area was busy, there was still lots of space for everyone to enjoy their time! The small deli is open all day (I think it is 6am-3am) and sells everything from beer to hot dogs, coffee, sandwiches and fresh cookies. The gift shop has anything you may have forgotten to take with you.
The location also lends to a great stay in Fort lauderdale. There are a few small bars/restaurants in the immediate vicinity - with a great choice about a 15 minute stroll along the beach promenade, at the foot of Las Olas on the beachfront. Don't make the mistake we did and walk to the main shopping on Las Olas blvd - it is a lot further than it looks.
I would throughly recommend this hotel to anyone and I am already planning a return trip!
Go and have a great time!
