I recently stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay. The hotel does feel a bit old in spots, but it also has a great classic feel.

I was given a free upgrade to a partial ocean view room. My room was lovely, and was located in the south tower of the hotel. I know that the south tower is one of the newest sections of the hotel. The other sections of the hotel were nice, but the south tower felt a little bit newer.

The beach and pool area at the yankee clipper are nice. The chairs are extremely comfortable... they are perfect for taking naps in!! Chairs on the beach are free, however, it is 10 dollars to rent an umbrella. The beach was always very clean, and the water was beautiful. The Beach Bar served relatively inexpensive drinks, right on the water.

I had a good trip overall, and I would probably come back.

We checked in late at night after returning from a cruise and were disgusted to find the bathub drain was clogged and the tub itself was covered in sand, hair, and soap from the last guest who stayed in the room -not to mention the fact that the water was bright YELLOW. A few moments after turning out the lights to sleep we heard a strange banging sound in our room. We then noticed a square door on the ceiling that appeared to open to an attic-like compartment. We decided to turn the latch and open box to see if anything or anyone was in there. When the latch opened, PORNOGRAPHY fell out on to our heads. At least 10 porno magazines and couple of plastic bags had fallen out - with more items still up there. We left the room immediately, and I tried to explain what had just happened to the night manager, who seemed unintrested. I was also laughed at by another associate who overheard my story! We were forced to make a 4 hour drive home at 1 o'clock in the Morning! The staff here is extremely unhelpful and I had to contact their cooperate office just to get an apology for this ridiculous situation. I still never found out exactly why there was porn magazines in the ceiling-but I don't want to know. This is no place for a family to be. Stay FAR FAR AWAY!

The Yankee Clipper is located right on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. Some of the hotels in Ft Lauderdale face the beach but require you to walk across the road to get to the sand. At the Clipper you walk right out onto the sand. THere are sand volleyball courts, beach chairs and umbrellsa on the beach. Also the deck pool is nice but doesn't have a view. (Beware though that one of the towers is across the road but connected to the main hotel by a sky bridge walkway. If you get a room in that tower you are NOT right on the beach, so request a room with a view and on the beach side.) I prefer to stay in Ft. Lauderdale instead of South Beach in Miami when visiting south Florida because parking is a nightmare and expensive in South Beach. We used the self parking at the Clipper. You do have to walk across the sky bridge to get to the parking garage but I never like waiting on valet parking. I always felt safe in teh garage which was limited access by room key only, and very well lit. The garage was lawys full of patorns no matter what time of day or night -- it was never creepy. Fortunately there is a dedicated "express" elevator from the lobby to the sky bridge that leads to the parking garage. Our room was roomy, clean and comfortable (love the Sheraton beds) but a little outdated. My guess is the rooms will be updated soon. We were on the Starwood guest floor which was the top floor. Make sure you register with Starwood (free and on line) so you can get the better view and a free large water bottle. The staff was wonderful and very accomodating to both an early arrival and a late check out (privileges for Starwood members if it's available.) The lounge was rockin' most of the night but our room was whisper quiet. The Clipper was a fun hotel in a great location.

How does a Supervisor at the front desk not even look up from her computer screen to say hello and smile when checking someone in? This was the unwelcome theme of our stay. At the restaurant you are greeted by another unfriendly, unwelcoming individual. At the bar, we encountered an employee who should be kept as far away as possible from guest interactions, basically stood at our table in silence, until we realized that it was our cue to tell her what we wanted to order. And so it was, and another, and another. As with most places, there are always a handful of employees who shine, like the valet (named Nelson?) who greeted us with a warm smile and welcomed us every time he saw us and other guests. But he was greatly outnumbered.

The hotel is old, and a mess. Old was appealing, a mess was not. Some stained carpets throughout, many trims were peeling or broken, and we were greeted by a puddle in the carpet in our room. We saw spare parts from half finished projects tucked away in corners throughout different parts of the hotel. We went into the gift shop and found more of the same, unpacked boxes, messy floor, I was tempted to run a vacuum cleaner myself.

If this Hotel improved its customer care and interaction, no one would notice half of the shortcomings.

Pros: Right on the beach. Unique bar with windows into the swimming pool. On or two employees who really shine.

This place is old and dirty. The staff is surly and give misleading information about the hotel. We never did get the full ocean view room we paid for. After three rooms we settled for a view of the beach. The room was never vacuumed as evidenced by the grape and skittle on the floor when we arrived and still there on the day we left. As an added bonus, the toilet began leaking on the bathroom floor on the day we checked out.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Sheraton should be ashamed of themselves.
