The Yankee Clipper is located right on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale. Some of the hotels in Ft Lauderdale face the beach but require you to walk across the road to get to the sand. At the Clipper you walk right out onto the sand. THere are sand volleyball courts, beach chairs and umbrellsa on the beach. Also the deck pool is nice but doesn't have a view. (Beware though that one of the towers is across the road but connected to the main hotel by a sky bridge walkway. If you get a room in that tower you are NOT right on the beach, so request a room with a view and on the beach side.) I prefer to stay in Ft. Lauderdale instead of South Beach in Miami when visiting south Florida because parking is a nightmare and expensive in South Beach. We used the self parking at the Clipper. You do have to walk across the sky bridge to get to the parking garage but I never like waiting on valet parking. I always felt safe in teh garage which was limited access by room key only, and very well lit. The garage was lawys full of patorns no matter what time of day or night -- it was never creepy. Fortunately there is a dedicated "express" elevator from the lobby to the sky bridge that leads to the parking garage. Our room was roomy, clean and comfortable (love the Sheraton beds) but a little outdated. My guess is the rooms will be updated soon. We were on the Starwood guest floor which was the top floor. Make sure you register with Starwood (free and on line) so you can get the better view and a free large water bottle. The staff was wonderful and very accomodating to both an early arrival and a late check out (privileges for Starwood members if it's available.) The lounge was rockin' most of the night but our room was whisper quiet. The Clipper was a fun hotel in a great location.
