“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2009

We stayed for one night following a cruise and had a great experience. I was a little nervous about the condition of the hotel after reading some reviews but took a gamble because of the great price for oceanfront accommodations. We arrived really early and our room wasn't ready but we were able to hang out at the lobby coffee shop and by the pool. We still managed to get into the room three hours before the official check-in. The room was spacious and comfortable, though not luxurious. The staff at the front desk and the bell desk were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a convenient walkway directly to the beach, and is located just up the street from a water taxi stop (highly recommended). We would stay here again, especially for the price.

I wanted to take my son fishing, and stay on the beach. I had stayed a block away at the beachfront Marriott previously, which was very nice - but more than twice the price. The Bahia Mar is an older property with great access to the beach, and its own marina. We chartered a boat at the marina for fishing, which was terrific (don't hesitate to bargain a little with the charter operators). The rooms at the Bahia Mar are plain but clean. The beds were actually very comfortable. The staff was helpful. This is a very well run 3 star hotel - and it exceeded my expectations based on the low price and great location. The food in the hotel was a bit expensive, but overall, a good experience. I would especially recommend it for those traveling with kids.

We stayed here on a Saturday night prior to a Sunday cruise departure and it was the best place we've ever stayed at in FLL. The location is fantastic, right across the street from the beach, about 2 blocks from the main strip, lots of nearby restaurants, bars etc. Hotel is very clean and neat, we were on the 12th floor overlooking the beach. We spent the day on the water taxi ($13 all day!!) which leaves right next door at the marina and runs up and down the intercoastal waterway. This was a wonderful experience, best part of the stay, Take it and get off at Las Olas, all kinds of gucci places there.
If you get a good rate, staying here is an absolute no-brainer.
The only negative is they don't provide complimentary shuttle to airport and/or cruise terminal, oh well, only about $20.

We arrived about 4 hrs prior to check in due to getting an earlier flight out Texas. The current occupants had just checked out and our room was not ready. So the hotel just upgraded us and did not have to wait. Great overall service. The view from our hotel was fantastic.

We stayed twice at the Bahia Mar, once for one night and once for two nights.

We stayed for one night in the older, low-rise wing next to the marina. The view of the marina was great but the room was dated and the bathroom was tiny. The hallways, elevator and lobby in this wing are old and need renewing or updating. The hotel suffered a water main break that night and we had no water/toilet for much of the night. The water was back by morning but there was no hot water. What irritated me was that the front desk staff made no apology for the problem when we checked out, nor did they offer to take something off our bill for the inconvenience.

Our next stay was in the high-rise main building, and the room was much, much nicer. Not top-tier, but satisfactory. We had a good view of the marina and ocean, and there was a sliding door leading out to a tiny balcony. Bahia Mar does not offer a complimentary breakfast, nor is there complimentary wi-fi in the rooms. There is also a parking charge. The good aspects are the location -- the hotel is right on the intracoastal waterway offering a view of passing yachts, and the beach is across the street with easy access using a bridge from the hotel. The Bahia mar fitness center is terrific, and the pool is quite nice.

We enjoyed walking down to the "strip" where there were several pretty decent restaurants. The Bahia Mar is also next to one of the pickup locations for the Water Taxi, which takes you all over the city through the New River and Intracoastal Waterway. A great way to explore the city.

Overall I like the Bahia Mar. The location is great and for the most part the staff is friendly and responsive. The tower rooms are satisfactory and if you like looking at yachts the Bahia Mar marina has some of the most extravagant, interesting yachts found anywhere.

We stayed 4 nights at the Bahia Mar beach resort in January of 2009. The hotel comprises two units. One is a high-rise and the other is an older four story motel. The units are connected by a unique bridge that spans the entrance area and connects to the large outdoor pool and the beach. This is all located on a large property that is at the quiet southern edge of the beautiful Fort Lauderdale beach. The beach is the major attraction and is beautiful! This property is planned for major improvement. The four story motel will be replaced with a luxury high rise hotel and two high rise residences are planned. We enjoyed our stay at the smaller motel unit. The king room was a nice size and we made a request for a balcony unit that was honored at check in. Only a few of these rooms have balconies and the hotel will not guaranty that you will get one. The balcony was really nice. It had two nice chairs and a small table and had a nice view of the beach or the marina. The high rise had small "pretend" balconies that did not allow you to step out. Since the smaller motel unit is scheduled for replacement, the furniture and amenities are on the worn side although everything worked and was clean. Self parking added $18 to the nightly charge but was convenient with easy free ins and outs. We found that there was a shortage of good restaurants within walking distance so we had to use the car several times. While it lasts, the less expensive motel unit rooms are a good value especially if you do not have a car. There is no free shuttle and a cab ride from the airport costs approximately $25. The hotel does not have a restaurant but there is a grill/bar that serves a limited breakfast/lunch that is on the expensive side.
