Recently stayed 6 days/5 nights at the Bahia Mar, booked this property because it was a great price, and I had stayed here before, and was happy with it.
First, the hotel is literally 5 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood Airport (FLL). Convenience is the selling point of this hotel. We pulled up right around 3pm and were greeted by a bellhop. I went inside to check-in, waited a couple minutes as there was someone else checking in. No issues checking in, i asked for 4 keys, as there were 4 of us. The lobby area was clean and modern looking, nothing special though.
we got to the room and it was nice and cold, as the AC was already running. i believe the AC runs 24hr/day everywhere in this place. i booked with 2 double beds, and thats what we got. i'll echo other reviews that it is not the grandest of places, and some of the furniture did need updating. the window to our balcony was in desperate need of cleaning, which was probably the biggest knock on the room. the linens were nice, bed a LITTLE soft, and plenty of pillows. bathroom could have been stocked a little better, but was satifactory. the shower/toilet and sink were seperated, making washing up/getting ready convenient. there was no wi-fi available in the room, and the wired internet came with a fee. was not thrilled about this either, but hey, you're on vacation, time to get away from it all, right? wi-fi (and computer kiosks) were available in the lobby.
As i stated before, convenience is the greatest selling point of this place. first, a private elevated walkway takes you directly to the beach, without having to wait for traffic to clear or a green light. the same walkway takes you to the fitness center/pool. and poolside is a bar/grill (Waves bar and grill), where you can get some eats and drinks. Pool was a decent size, and even had a "deep" end (8ft). the fitness center had several cardio machines, and a number of weight machines. when i stayed here previously, i remembered they had free weights. i guess they got rid of those. They have towels available for you to either take to the beach or use for the pool. theres a limit of 3 per room. tho our third day there, they didnt make us sign them out anymore, so we took as many as we wanted =) pool or beach was not crowded at all during our stay. This is where we spent the majority of our time. The pool is also open pretty much all night. our final night, we bought some beers and brought them to the pool. we were the only ones there. the fitness center is open as well, in case you need to use the bathroom. the pool is nice and warm at night (presumably from the sun all day). We stayed until 1:30am. fun time!
there is also a deli, opposite the lobby, where you can get sandwiches. i HIGHLY recommend going before 10:30 and grabbing a breakfast sandwich (egg, cheese, meat), if you want a quick bite, and its fairly cheap at $4. they brew starbucks coffee. We also tried Breezes (another hotel restaurant) for breakfast one morning. it wasn't too great, and of course overpriced. i orderd "belgian waffles". which looked more like eggo waffles. go with the deli sandwiches!!
the hotel is walking distance away from a good strip of A1A, with a lot of restaurants, shops and bars. but far enough away where it wasnt noisy or rowdy. we walked there for dinner one night. stay away from Sangria's, food was terrible. go there if you want one of their giant margaritas tho, that was pretty good.
Though we didnt have a negative experience with housekeeping, they didnt appear to be the friendliest people. though they did fulfill our requests (extra blanket, towel). and our rooms were cleaned prompty each day.
Here's the BIGGEST con: PARKING. $18/night to park, ugh, i've paid more, but 5 nights? $18/night? yea....as i checked out, there was another guest arguing the charge.
Overall, enjoyable stay at the Bahia Mar. as i stated earlier, not the grandest of places, but if you want just a place to stay, with easy access to the beach and a pool to use whenever...this is the place! at a great price to boot.
