I booked this hotel for a recent business trip, strictly because of the price and the location on the beach since a friend was tagging along. I have to stay, as far as Doubletrees go, this one is a step below what I expect from them. As you have probably read the hotel common areas are very nice. Check in was easy. Parking ( I was told you could not self park even though on the website it shows a cheaper rate for self park ) was expensive in my opinion. But then you get up to the rooms and it is like you step off the elevator into 1980. Carpet looked new and was a nice vibrant scheme, but the walls were just white paint with beach balls painted or stuck on them. Odd.
I was in room 1111. 2 Double Beds, very comfortable beds. Carpet in the room was worn. Lamps next to the bed were old school hotel lamps. Not modern or updated. The beds were like platform beds, up on feet. Kind of weird to be able to see under them. Decent View down the beach from the side angle.
The bathroom was 2 separate areas. One with sink and closet ( with carpet around the sink area.. ick. I had to throw a towel on top of that germ haven. ) and then the toilet and tub in a smaller room next to that. Now the vanity area had a louvered pocket door you could pull to. The toilet room also had a solid pocket door for those "private times you need" YET MY POCKET DOOR DID NOT CLOSE !!! I called the desk and said " I need maintenance to come fix my door to the bathroom as it is broken and will not close, so basically my friend and I have no privacy " Sure thing, we will send someone right up… I go to dinner, come back and find a note on my table " bathroom door is broken.. will not open " Really Sherlock Holmes?? Go Solve Another Mystery. I mean Isn't that why I called you ? And trust me when I say this door had been like this for a while. I can't believe I am the only person to call about it, and I can't believe they won't call a professional in to fix it, or just DONT RENT OUT THE ROOM !! Anyway So I called the front desk and asked the gentleman at the desk what could be done. He said he just came on duty but he would leave a note for the manager to call me in the morning. Now, being a Hilton DIAMOND MEMBER I hoped I would have a) been offered to move to another room and B ) for the manager to care enough to actually call. I was neither contacted, or offered anything to help me out. So for 3 nights, we either left the room to use the bathroom, or waited till we were alone.
I find it hard to give a good rating for a hotel that basically did not care about my problem, try to help for my problem, or compensate me for my problem. Hell, they didn't even care enough to call. :-(
So I will probably be looking elsewhere when I go back to Ft Lauderdale, which I frequent 4 to 5 times a year. I gave it a shot, but in my opinion the cheaper rate did not warrant the lack of care.
