hI stayed at the Marriott Harbor Beach at the end of August for 6 nights. It was terrific, to say the least. If your looking for a relaxing beach vacation at a nice clean resort in South Florida, then this is for you. I read some of the negative reviews before I booked, and decided to take a chance anyway. Let me tell you they were wrong. Making a Mountain out of a Mole Hill in most cases.

To start off with, I always stay at the best Hotels, no matter where I go. No I am not rich, but when I go on vacation I go the extra mile for my family. After all, a great vacation creates memories that last forever.

Right off the bat, I have been to Fort Lauderdale many times since I was a kid. This is the best in the city. However you do need a rental car to go exploring. Parking at the Hotel is about $24.00 a day. Valet parking is about $28.00 a day. I know its expensive, but do the Valet for the extra money. When you ready to go out, just dial Valet Service and your car is ready for you by the time you get down stairs. Of course a $ 1.00 tip is a nice gesture.

The lobby is awesome and check-in was a breeze. Starbucks is also a plus. There are some conventions at the Hotel, but not a distraction. The Hotel is undergoing room remodeling at the present time, and it will be completed in October. I didn't really notice the construction. I was checked into a non- renovated room, but it was still nice with a balcony facing the pool. Housekeeping was great, turn down service and chocolate mints to boot. There is also an area down stairs that offers several computers with internet and printer capabilities. For a fee of course. But, you really should'nt be surfing the net on vacation. You could also rent beach items and Jets Skis
etc.

The beach is fantastic and the pool is great. Chairs or lounges at both are free, but there is a small charge for umbrellas and lounge cushions. There is a large pool bar and a smaller beach side bar. There is also beach side and pool side food and drink service.

Here is the deal. The food and drinks at the Hotel are very expensive. The restaurants serve food that is O.K. but I would eat out. There is excellent dining available in the city for a fraction of the cost.

Here is what we did. On the day of our checkin, we drove down to the Publix Supermarket and stocked up on snacks, soda, bottled water, plastic cups, and a cheap stirofoam cooler for the room. We also went next door to the Supermarket to the largest liquor store I ever seen. We got some beer, wine, and liquor. We brought all this back to the Hotel and stocked it in our room. Remember, down the hall was an ice machine for the cooler.

Every afternoon, I would make my wife a stiiff drink in the room and I would put a few beers in my backpack, and down to the pool or beach we would go. Very economical and smart. Believe me, I am not cheap. But I refuse to pay $ 6.50 for a can of beer at the pool or $4.00 for a bottle of water.

Overall, this Hotel is the best Fort Lauderdale has to offer. Clean, upscale, and the largest private beach in the city. It is expensive to stay but it is worth it, in my opinion. The service was great and all the employees were professional and curteous.

As a Platinum Marriott Rewards member, I have the opportunity to visit alot of Marriott hotels. This is my third stay with the Harbor Beach and I can honestly say that there is NO other hotel in the Marriott family that treats its Marriott Platinum Rewards members better. The service at the hotel is fabulous and the new rooms are everything you can ask for in a beach resort that relies on a fabulous pool (one of the better in the Marriott family) and great beach to entertain the guests.

My experience is this - I visited with my family and was upgraded to an INCREDIBLE suite that overlooked the beach. The suite had 2 full bathrooms with a large living area, another large dining area, and a separate bedroom, all with great views of the beach and balconies. The General Manager had wine and cheese waiting for us in the room. Now, that is service (kudos to the GM, who I believe is relatively new to the property. He is doing a fantastic job)

We had the chance to eat at Rivas for dinner (the less fancy of the two restaurants). Food was excellent and the prices were not any more expensive that any other beach hotel in the area. My two year old really enjoyed it and was given a frisbee to keep.

The property has a Starbucks for all of you addicts, as well as a beach shop to buy the little ones floaties and other needs. There is also a beach bar and food grill. Finally, the property is walking distance from the strip in Lauderdale Beach.

Visit - you wont be disappointed.

Could not believe some of the negative reviews of this Hotel.I stayed here when it first opened 21 years ago and had a terrific stay hence, reading some other reviews made me worry that it might have fallen a few notches.I'am a normal Hyatt or Marriott person so I think I know what I should or should not expect from a Hotel.Rest assured that if you nose is not "in the air" you will enjoy this resort.
Yes food and drink can run you some good money but in my opinion there is value in it because they are done with great care.I did not meet one service person that did not go above and beyond and I asked or expected of them.(sometimes its how you ask that matters)
Pool was very nice, grounds well maintained and beach was the best in town. Rooms size was average but as clean as a whistle due to morning cleaning and evening turn down service. For those who cannot handle the food or beverage costs ,you can ask for a free refrigerator and stack it with goods from Publix to save a few bucks, but by all means do not fear to stay here ,the place is a great choice!!

Transfered here from te Holllywood Beach Marrriot because we were not happy with the location.
We were celebrating our anniversary and were staying on Marriott Awards. We were given an updated NOT renovated room.
It did have a plasma TV and the and great view. Room was an average Marriott room.
The lobby is very nice and the pool with waterfall area has a good tiki bar. Food was good at the pool and drinks were pricey but this is a resort.
Ate at their signature restaurant, food was well prepared and good but atmosphere was not really fine dining.
We had been given spa passes and enjoyed that very much.
Private pool without the noise or splashing of little ones.
Didn't have any treatments but used the sauna, hot tub ect...hughly recommend using the spa area.
All and all had a nice stay.
While there the US Truman was docekd outside our window and you can see cruise ships arriving and departing.
Beach is very nice and is walking distance to dining and bars.
Bet this hotel will be even better after renovations.

This hotel is quite beautiful along with the beach and pool areas. Our young children enjoyed the activities that the hotel provided.
Some were free and some were an extra fee. For the most part the food in the hotel was very pricey. The pool restaurant and breakfast entrees were extremely over priced. There was nothing in walking distance except for other hotels. We ordered take out from a few local restaurants on a few of the evenings. (This was more reasonable.) Overall this was a nice place to stay, but difficult if you do not have a car and if you are on any type of budget.
