My husband and I spent the 1st week of January at Harbor Beach. The room was very nice, loved the bed, TV, and found it to be very spacious with a fantastic view. The service was great and our meals were fantastic in the Riva restaurant. My only reservation about this hotel is the upcharging and food costs even though we knew that by reading previous reviews, it was still shocking to pay 50.00 for a sandwich, salad and two bottled water at the poolside "serve yourself" cafe.
I highly recommend renting a car if you have not seen much of Florida. We drove to Miami Beach & explored South Beach for a day which was quite fun.
In Fort Lauderdale itself, the water taxi was a good way to get around and I recommend Los Olas Blvd for some great shopping and restaurants. The Everglades were worth seeing even though I wasn't that interested in seeing an alligator, I have to admit I enjoyed it. Spending a day at the hotel Spa is also a must if you have the time.

  • Liked — Property was very well maintained / Service
  • Disliked — Upcharges for everything and food costs

I was at the HBR for Christmas this year - following a great stay last Chrtistmas. I was not disappointed but I was not thrilled either. Last year the hotel gave Elite guests beachbags, towels and invited them to a party. This year nothing....After CHristmas it was really, really crowded. All the acivities catered to children. They need some things for adults to do as well like they used to. They really nickle and dime you for everything so I think next year I will go somewhere I will feel appreciated. The "big" guy stays here over the holidays and I was looking for him to tell him how I felt (Mr. Marriott). He would have cared - the staff here did not care how I felt - and I have stayed here at least 10 times in 4 years.

We stayed there on December 23rd with marriott rewards. The service is outstanding and quite comparable to JW Marriott hotels that we have stayed with. Free upgrade to ocean view, free movie etc. The beach is quite lovely (although we prefer white rather than golden sand). The pool and cabana are nice with a lot of free activities for kids (it was Christmas eve). The poolside restaurant is passable. The room is clean with decent decoration but somewhat dated. The view from balcony is wonderful. Would certainly stay there again.

Stayed for 2 nights following a cruise on Queen Mary 2. The hotels main areas eg lobby, swimming area are nicely presented and clean. Great to have a starbuck within the hotel as hotel prices are not cheap, $50 for a bottle of vodka!!
The rooms were large but disappointing, we paid £199 per room per night. The decor was grubby and the walls needed a good paint. The one good thing was the bed was one of the most comfiest we have stayed in.
Overall a good beach location but if you haven't got a car you need to take taxis everywhere. There is a water taxi available to take you places which is a 10 min walk away. These are worth doing to see the beautiful houses, however it takes about an hour to get anywhere in them.
Reasonable hotel but pricey..

I stayed here during a trip that otherwise used cheaper hotels but for the weekend of my birthday we went for something fancier. You can't fault the rooms, it was clean spacious and well equipped with a large flat screen TV too. The pool was lovely, and was directly on the beach. The coin-laundry was convenient as I usually find many pricer hotels only have valet laundry. The location is great if you want the beach but it's a bit of a drive to get to an area with a choice of restaurants. I got a deal that included parking and the resort fee but this hotel does seem to have a lot of extra charges so I'd check them all out before you make a booking.

  • Liked — The room
  • Disliked — All the extra charges
  • Tips/Secrets: — Check what the room rate includes and waht's extra.
