We had a fantastic time in Fort Lauderdale. Some of the comments about reception staff are fair, but it does seem to depend which individual is on reception. When we arrived we were put in a room overlooking a building site, we requested to change room, but were basically told to go away, on the second day of our vacation when woken at 7-8am by construction work, we were determined to be changed. Luckily this time there was a much better receptionist who immediatley moved us to an Ocean view room for the remainder of our stay. That room was lovely and the view, wow, just loved it.

We used a car to get everywhere so did not face some of the problems mentioned with location. I-Hop and Mc Donalds proved good breakfast options for us and the food by the pool is a little expensive but really good. We never got around to trying the hotel for dinner as there is so much in the area. My favorite evening eateries were "The cheescake factory" and "Outback Steakhouse", these are both a lovely novelty if you're over from the UK.

We spent a lot of time shopping whilst in the US, the mall in Fort Lauderdale was quite good, I loved sawgrass mills outlets and we found a fantastic mall as you drive into Miami, unfortunately I forget the name. If you're a young professional and don't work in the US, I recommend Express for fantastic womens smart trousers and for casual wear Abercrombie and Fitch is a must.

One downfall was when we were leaving we got charged for parking, even though our package entitled us to free parking. Luckily thanks to Trip advisor I knew this may happen, so had a print out of the page from our tour operator stating that parking was included at no extra charge. Reception apologised and re-funded us.

  • Liked — The views of the ocean and nice pool area
  • Disliked — Being charged for parking, when included in package price and no assitance intially with unsatisfactory room

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 2-3 years and I am never disappointed. Found this one on a business trip and have gone back repeatedly for relaxation. The beach is excellent and easily accessed from the hotel. The pool is very nice considering the beach is just a few hundred feet away. The rooms have always been very clean. Some people complain about the cost but I think it is very much on par this other hotels in the class. The biggest difficulty is not having any restaurants nearby and the hotel's restaurants while great do tend to become routine after approx. 2 days. Plus they are not the cheapest in the world either. Hey this is a vacation so no big deal. In my book this is not a major problem since by taxi or even walking there are plenty of restaurants in the area. This place is great for relaxing. I usually go here to relieve the stress of work and it always does an excellent job. I typically see a wide range of families and individuals visiting this hotel. The kids seem to like the beach as well. My advice is don't forget to pack a swimsuit. I did and ended up buying one but they had a local shop that I was able to get one with little or no difficulty. I have got to emphasize that this a great hotel but the beach is my favorite spot. I have attached a few photos of a sunrise and typical day at this hotel.

A group of six adults stayed at the resort for four days. We were able to use the trolley during the day, which is free transportation and cabs home in the late evenings. The staff is wonderful, the pool is great, and the beach is perfect. We did feel the drink prices were high, $10 to $12 dollars a drink, and not because they were strong, but overall expected to some degree while on vacation. The only negative point was the lack of things in walking distance. To get breakfast it was 6 to 8 blocks. So, you spend the majority of time in the hotel, until you discover the free trolley. It does become a very calm and quiet hotel after the pool bar closes around 5 or 6pm. But the nightlife at the beach place and second street make up for that point. We would definitely stay there again. The rooms are spacious and you get morning and afternoon cleaning and turn down service. We did order room service one time and it was to the room in 20 minutes and correct. We did visit the end of August, so it was not prime time.

  • Liked — Room amazing bed
  • Disliked — Location
  • Tips/Secrets: — Use the free trolley at the corner light in runs down A1A to the beach place and in the other direction to a nice mall area

My family and I just returned from the weekend of hel!! We love Marriott and are platinum reward members to prove it. However, I will be rethinking my loyalty after this weekend! We arrived and the front desk attendants were not your typical "eager to serve", they were rude and short. After asking to be moved from the first room (air conditioning didn't work), We got settled in the second room. They had water damage in the hallways and a Huge Blue "blower" (extremely loud) running, I guess to dry it out but it was circulating a horrible mildew smell throughout the hallway and into the rooms. There must have been some water damage somewhere in our room as well because it smelled very strongly of mold and made my husband and my daughter (who we had to pick up from school today because she was ill) very sick. Our telephone didn't work and either did the TV which normally wouldn't be a problem but this weekend it rained so much that we wanted to watch a movie...It didn't work so we called for assistance it took hours for them to send someone. They did have activities for the kids however, nobody ever knew where things were being held. We would call down to the front desk and they would tell us one thing and when we took the kids there, there was nothing and someone else would send us somewhere else. It was like a scavenger hunt trying to find where the activities were being held and by the time we finally arrived it was over :(...I couldn't believe this was actually a Marriott- I am still in shock over how bad it really was!

My kids and I stayed at the Marriott for a 7 day vacation, and found everything about this resort to be wonderful. Every member of the staff went out of their way to be helpful and kind. The children's activities were fabulous, something every 1/2 hour. Although there was a charge for some things, there were also many, many free activities and the kids loved them all. The accomdations were clean and comfortable. Our room looked over the city and it was breathtaking. The pool and the beach are both wonderful and stayed clean given the number of guests using them. Because we were budget conscious, we did try some of the local restaurants for dinner and found reasonably priced options very close to the hotel. We have absolutely no complaints, and would certainly come here again.
