My beautiful wife and I stayed here on Aug.26-28 and Sept.3rd (before and after a cruise out of local Port.) Suppose to stay at Best Western Marina and Yacht club but it had no power and was closed due to Katrina which hit the day before. Looked for another place and found this Mariott. Price was a little higher especially with the extra cost of parking maybe $ 12-15 more per day on just the parking. Do not stay at the Hyatt, they tried to price gouge us at $200/night, due to the hurricane and claimed all other hotels in the area were closed. Not true. We were unable to borrow cart to take luggage to room or down from room. Also there is no pickup from port which is less than 5 mintues, but will drop you off at port at no charge. Now the great news: Breakfast buffet was very good each day, the pool was delightful, the service was above average the entire time. Enjoyed the room, good size, and bed was very comfortable. Excellent location near port on one side of 17 St.Bridge.Other hotel on opposite side (B.Western). Water taxi comes right to the back of hotel for $ 5.00 ride all day long. Hotel was very clean, except for a live bug moving in the tv cabinet. Botton line, we would definitely come back again.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for a business trip. The rooms were a nice size and clean. Service was great, everyone from the front desk to housekeeping were very pleasant. My room was located in the East Villa so I had a balcony that faced the boats/pier. The pool was nice, not crowded but it is not huge. It's good for relaxing and they offer food/drink service as well. They also had a free shuttle that went to the beach throughout the day.

*Note: The beach was not that great (nothing like South Beach) BUT there is another Marriot (Harbor Beach Resort & Spa) located on the beach that has a huge pool, a bar, music and they have beach service as well. You can walk right onto the resort and hang out there, I did.

Some of the things that could have been better:

The water was yellow, there was a notice in the bathroom that said it was a city problem and not that of the hotel itself.

There were only 2 places to eat and their menus were pretty much the same. The food was decent. I would definitely suggest lunch by the pool but going out for dinner.

The hotel's location was not within walking distance to many things so you would need a car/taxi to get around. The Riverwalk, which has restaurants/clubs/bars/shops is about 10 minutes away and less than $10 by taxi.

I'm a pretty laid back person so overall I would stay at the hotel again. If you are the same way and don't feel the need to complain about every little thing (which people tend to do on Trip Advisor) then I think you will be content with this hotel. It is not a 4 star hotel but great for a relaxing get away.

Stayed for business during the high season. Clean rooms, but paper thin walls. I could hear the announcers on the cruise ship several blocks over during the middle of the night. Kids and adults were very noisy at all times of the night. The highlight was the bar located on the intercoastal. Convenient to everything Fort Lauderdale.

I wouldn't say this is a terrible hotel. It's pretty near the beach (walking distance if you don't mind a 20 minute walk).

I stayed there March 2005.

However, it is a tired building. Old style Marriott design, and pretty old rooms.

And it can be noisy if the door to your balcony is open.

However, the pool area's very nice, and there is a jacuzzi which you can access at night. Also, there is a nice outdoor bar area which is quite pleasant and low key. Don't wear your business suit or blazer or you'll look out of place.

The view of the intercoastal is pretty cool, and you can see the pool area from your room to gauge how crowded it is.

I did think it was a bit much that the closest parking was valet only, and the other lot you had to pay $12 per night for. Parking should be free. And there is construction going on nearby so not the most quite spot during the day.

My room was $250, if you can find one for the same price closer to the beach, go for it.
