“Decent But Not For $300/night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

We stayed here between two consecutive Royal Caribbean cruises. Fortunately RC paid for this hotel for us (since we were on consecutive cruises) but we had others in our group who were going only on one of our two cruises and had to pay for their hotel stay to be with the rest of the cruise. The price they paid? $300ish per night. Ouch! I know it was Spring Break and pre-/post-cruise day but for that price you would expect better out of a Hilton.

We arrived early (around noon) and they did not have any rooms ready which was to be expected. However, they were able to get us into a room by 2:30. Meanwhile we relaxed in the lobby and at the pool. The pool was crowded and there were no chairs or loungers so we had to put towels on the pool deck and just get in the pool. We used the pool bar for drinks and lunch which was quite expensive, $110 for two of us.

The hotel is large but didn't seem as well maintained as other Hilton properties I have stayed in. Our room seemed like door hardware was worn and not properly functioning and the bathroom fan did not work, it was like an inferno in there. But the shower worked very well. Our room was very far away from the main portion of the hotel, more toward the marina and we had a great huge patio to watch the boats. But it was just a long walk anywhere and it seemed like this part of the hotel was kind of forgotten. Others in our group said their rooms were also in poor shape.

We did use the laundry facilities which was a nice change from having to pack extra clothes for our second cruise or use ship laundry. It was $1.50 for wash and $1 for dry. You can get quarters at the front desk but we walked to Walgreens to get detergent. There is only 2 washers and 4 dryers so make sure you go at the right time.

There is shopping within walking distance as well as eateries. It's easy to get a cab or shuttle to cruise port or airport. We ordered several pizzas from a recommended pizza place for our group of 21 to have in the hotel lobby. The pizza, Doughboys, was not good and they got each and every pizza order wrong. I would not recommend them.

I would stay here only if we were between cruises again and the cruise line was paying again, but I would not stay on my own dollar. I just did not feel the service or maintenance was up to par with other Hilton properties.

We stayed at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina for one night prior to our cruise on Celebrity Solstice. The hotel is literally a stones throw from the port and easily placed for the attractions of Fort Lauderdale also. Smart, clean, modern & and ideal location make this hotel perfect for anything from one - three or four nights stay. Lovely bar area set around a marina serving great food (just what you need after a 10hr flight from the UK) and great atmosphere. Pleasant pool area (which we didnt have time to use) and good breakfast selection to set you on your way. Only downside is my room was roadside which I was incredibly dissapointed with as I would have preffered a room overlooking the marina. My room was quiet noisy because of this. However, given I was ready for sleep after such a long journey it didnt keep me awake too long, Hotel reception is extremely busy on what I call cruise changeover day. So many people coming and going on and off ships. However, the guys out at the front on valet and taxis service are great and soon get you on your way. They also kindly stored our luggage for us whilst we went down to Las Olas for a few hours before joining our cruise. All in all a great hotel, very impressed. Only downside was that we didnt book a couple of nights and one was not enough time to enjoy the hotel to its fullest. Will definately book again for a ex Fort Lauderdale sailing :-) xx

Room Tip: Ask for either a high floor or room overlooking marina. Ground floor overlooking car park is not ide...

We've stayed at the Hilton Marina twice, and both times have been disappointed. That's frustrating, because the hotel has a lot going for it. The grounds are very attractive, being situated at a marina on the intercoastal waterway. Behind the hotel is a large, pleasant pool area and an outdoor bar. The hotel is also close to the airport and literally within walking distance of Port Everglades (if you don't mind carrying your luggage, that is).

What's disappointing about the hotel is the quality of rooms, particularly in the East and West Villas. We also had some trouble with service and the quality of the room.

In our first stay, we were assigned a room in the West Villa, and didn't like it at all. The room did not seem clean. Walking across the carpet in bare feet left me feeling like I needed another shower. On our more recent stay, the room seemed cleaner. Generally, however, on both stays, the room and the hallways in the villa had a dingy, tired, somewhat depressing feel. I like my first impression of a hotel to make me glad to have chosen it, but I can't say that about the Hilton Marina.

After our first stay, we decided to give the hotel another chance, and booked a Junior Suite room in the tower. For the sake of accuracy, I should point out that the room was actually booked by the cruise line on which we would be travelling, and that the room was paid for in advance (the hotel was an "extra" purchased at the same time as the cruise). Our travel documents showed that a Junior Suite had been reserved and paid for.

When we arrived at the hotel, however, the desk clerk told us that no Junior Suites were available. He offered us instead a standard room in a villa. He was unable to provide a refund, as the room had been paid for by a third party (the cruise line). (He also offered a voucher for an all-you-can-eat breakfast, which we declined.) We reluctantly accepted the room downgrade, and intended to seek a refund from the cruise line.

The next morning, we spoke with a manager about the problem with our reservation (and problems with the room we were assigned, which I'll get to). She was apologetic, and offered a voucher for a free night's stay, which seemed at the time like reasonable restitution. The voucher, she said, would be available when we checked out. When we received the voucher, however, we saw it had so many conditions that we would be very unlikely to ever make use of it: it expired in a year, weekend redemption was available "on an extremely limited basis," etc. I'm just cynical enough to think that the manager may have delayed our receipt of the voucher until we had checked out to ensure that we would not have had time to inspect it. Viewed in this light, it seems like a ploy to placate unhappy guests quickly and at minimal cost.

The room we were assigned, in the East Villa, smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, even though it was a no-smoking room. It did seem cleaner than the room we had had on our previous stay, but still seemed somewhat tired and dingy.

The main problem we had, one that prevented us from getting any sleep, was that every so often -- perhaps every half hour -- we heard a very loud crashing noise, like someone violently slamming a door nearby. Each time it happened, we nearly jumped out of our skins. We thought the sound was coming from out in the hall, that perhaps a door to a stairwell was closing too hard. We didn't think anything would be done about it in the middle of the night, so we didn't report it. However, in the morning, I found the cause of the noise: the air conditioner in the room. Each time it shut off, the condenser made a loud, banging sound.

Given our experience with the reservation and the quality of the rooms on both occasions we stayed there, we won't be staying at the Hilton Marina again, which is too bad, because its location is convenient. On the other hand, there are plenty of other hotels in Fort Lauderdale.

We only stayed here for one night before our cruise, very short but sweet! On checkin the staff were very polite and friendly, which mirrors throughout the whole hotel from pool bar staff to restaurant staff. The location on the water is great which gives you a great chance to look at some very nice yacht's!! We had a great evening meal at the poolside bar along with breakfast the next day which were both really nice and well priced! The pool and pool area which was open late, is very clean and relaxing, again in a great spot! I will say this is a hotel used by people who are cruising usually arriving a day both and leaving the next, so it does get busy at times but no issue. Overall a very cleaning, friendly, slick hotel, just a shame we could'nt stay longer! :(

Room Tip: I'd advise getting a room overlooking the marina at the rear, we were very lucky to get one fant...

Stayed here 2 nights before cruise..... had a balcony room over looking the marina - very clean, staff was very friendly and helpful (restaurants had great food, but a little pricey), beautiful pool, but no hot tub. Water taxi stop is right at hotel and many restaurants are within walking distance (1 1/2 - 2 miles). Would definately stay here again!

Room Tip: Request room on higher floor - our room was on the 2nd floor and an enormous yacht was blocking our...

We stayed fpr one night only prior to our Cruise, we had a room on the 4th floor of the Tower, the view of the bridge was fine but beyond, was disappointing.
The room was adequate but not particularly clean and it did not help when the water would not run out of the wash basin, so washing, brushing team and shaving was a nonsense.
A room service tray remained outside our room the whole time we stayed.
The facilities looked quite good, we didn`t use them though.
The boats around the hotel looked fantastic and really heightened our excitement.
The asian restaurant was quiet and we decided not to eat there, we thought it kind of pricey, we instead took a walk up 17th street and eventually found the Quarterdeck about half a mile away and glad we ate there, the food and drinks were cheaper for both of us than for one at the Hotel.
We took buffet breakfast at the hotel and in fairness that was fine.
A tip when arranging transfer to Cruise passengers, they advise a specific time to meet in reception...get your bus ticket as early as possible, arrange to clear your account in your room and get downstairs fir the first bus out if You can because it gets crazy with many passengers all waiting for their respective bus for transfer to the Port...it was mayhem so get organised if You can.
The Staff we met at the Hotel were courteous.
There is a walgreens a block away to catch up on any last minute items.
