We followed the advice of other tripadvisors and found a wonderful resort. We are in our late 50's so enjoyed the more quiet surroundings and plentiful beach. If you like to watch the cruise ships leave/come in the late afternoon this is the perfect location but ask for a top floor (5th) to have the best view.

We had a PRIVATE 2nd floor rm# 201 oceanfront in the south building. IOt consisted of a very large patio that had 2 straight chairs and 2 lounge chairs and plenty of room left over and also a pool view. The patio was partial shade by some big palm trees and the other half was full sun. In any case, you could see the cruise ships easily and got the prevailing easterly breeeze which is welcome if you're sitting outside.

Inside had a mini refrig, small kitchen area w/sink and dishes for 4, dining table, pull out sofa, 2 living room chairs, double french doors to the queen bedroom, 2 full baths, 2 large TV's amd and nicely decorated.

There are two large pools, many acivities for children and adults, (tennis, shuffleboard, putting green, swing sets, outside pool bar/grill, late afternoon early evening entertainment (poolside), countless pool chairs, restaurants and outside terrace dining.
Keep in mind folks this is a resort so therefore 18% gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY added to your bill for any food/beverage purchases. The resort doesn't accept money until checkout.

This resort is right on the beach so you don't have to cross a busy road. Parking is FREE and plenty of it but there is also a FREE VALET if you prefer.

We have stayed at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort (within 1/2 mile) and found the Largo Mar to be far superior with staff, friendliness, convience to come and go, better pool, huge terraces and much nicer beach.

Las Olas Blvd and the downtown Riverwalk are all within 5 minutes by car. Great restaurants and entertainment in this area. If you are taking a cruise, you're within 10 minutes to the cruise terminals and 15 minutes to airport. If you are a gambler or like to play horse races, GULFSTREAM is about 6 miles south. If you like NUDE beaches, Hallendale is about 6 miles south (just ask around in Hallendale area and you can get directions--).

I would recommend this resort to everyone. PS. Don't be afraid to ask to see a room or two before settleling for one. Remember to tip that person well and who know's, you just might end up with a really nice room....It works every time...

  • Liked — Convience, beach, lovely room
  • Disliked — There is not a separate area for diapered children to use a pool.

Okay, so southern Florida in August isn't really paradise but this resort made it seem closer. The three of us (my husband, my teenage son, and I) stayed in a poolside suite. This included a separate bedroom (with a second TV), a sleeper sofa in the large living/dining area, a complete kitchenette, and a very nice balcony (complete with 2 lounge chairs, 2 chairs, and a small table) overlooking the pools and palm trees. Lots of room for three adults and the kitchen made it possible to have breakfast in the room and drinks on the balcony. The staff was terrific – friendly and genuinely concerned about the comfort of the guests. Lovely pools and the Olympic one is actually large enough for swimming laps. The beach is beautiful and private. Palm trees all over the property.

The hotel is a bit off the beaten path (private and quiet). A car is good for trips to the grocery store (there’s a nice Publix within a 10 minute drive) and sight seeing. There’s a water taxi stop at the Hyatt Pier 66 which is only about ½ mile walk which is worth the trip just for the narration along the way.

I must say that staying at the Lago Mar was one of the best get-a-ways I've ever experienced! It really is so beautiful with a laid-back yet elegant, ambiance. We took our four year old daughter on her first real trip to the ocean, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect spot. It is family oriented, but not annoyingly so. I would have loved this place even without bringing my kid! We stayed in a suite, and that made it all perfect to keep food in the room and give us the space we needed. The rooms could use a little updating...but I wouldn't want too much to change the value and charm of the resort. It really is like old Florida!
The ocean was lovely, with plenty of free chairs and rental umbrellas. Watching the cruiseships (and even the freighters) take off and come in to the nearby port was a real treat for my daughter. I wish the planes with advertising banners didn't fly so much over this beach, but this is just the nature of Ft. Lauderdale, unfortuantly. The pool was amazing with a perfect temperature and depths. This is by far the most fun and relaxing pool I've ever been to. Lot's of nice European families in particular, and overall well behaved, good-spirited people.. The employees were also very kind and friendly. The proximity to the airport, the restaurants, the grocery, etc...was just great! It would now be hard to stay anywhere else in Ft. Lauderdale!

  • Liked — Had everything we needed in one place!
  • Disliked — Liked it all!

My wife and I spent a week at Lagomar in late July and we really enjoyed it a lot.

We had average expectations after other similarly priced experiences in South Florida.

After the initial shock of walking through a 1960´s Hollywood like "Etruscan-American" styled lobby and corridor that made us both grin, we discovered a well run, enjoyable facility with a huge beach that strikes as having enough palm trees to assign one to each room to protect guests from the fiery July sun. The poolside atmosphere and snackbar (try the chicken Thai salad) rank among the most perfect anti-stress treatments I´ve ever experienced worldwide.
What makes the difference with a number of beautiful places I have been around the world is the staff´s healthy friendliness, not only around the external amenities and neighborhoods but you also receive personalized attention over the phone whatever your needs are.
The complimentary bottle of good Californian red wine that was sent to our room upon arrival also helped to speed up the transition between our hectic daily routines, a very long flight and a week of relax. It´s a good policy, they should never discontinue that.
We were assigned to a seizable suite with a kitchenette (as emphasized in our reservation request, since not all suites have kitchens, although... I have to say.. it was only scarcely equipped...they could add a couple of pots and pans). We enjoyed quite a few evenings cooking and dining in our room after exploring and shopping around for organic food in the Fort Lauderdale area.

The week seemed to be peak season. It was full with happy families with children, relatives and friends, but never too noisy.

We look forward to repeat our experience at Lagomar.

  • Liked — Great wide beach (Not too usual in South Florida´s Atlantic Coast beyond Miami´s South Beach)
  • Disliked — Kitchens in suites need to add equipment. (More dishes, cutlery, pots and pans)

We stayed at the Lago Mar from 4-10 Aug with our 2 children (6-1/2 & almost 5). We all had a relaxing, wonderful vacation. We read a few negative reviews before booking, but noticed the positive reviews out-numbered the negative, and took a shot. Absolutely no regrets. The beach was just GORGEOUS, couldn't be better. The pool was also great, although a lot of black spots (mildew?) on the walls. We had the pleasure of spotting the resident iguana, which was a real treat, he's so cool looking! Overall, the grounds were really pretty & well-maintained. Our poolside suite was very comfortable, and the full kitchen definitely came in handy with the kids (bought groceries for breakfast & lunch then treated ourselves for dinners). Enjoyed nice meal at the Acquario, but didn't make it to the breakfast buffet.
There were plenty of towels available every day for the beach. We liked the fact that the hotel was set away from the craziness of the strip - almost felt like being on an island. Rented a car, and everything was a very short, convenient distance. The hotel seems to attract a nice crowd (a lot of European families). We definitely would recommend this resort as well as re-visit in the future!

  • Liked — Set away from strip, felt like island escape. Beautiful beach!
  • Disliked — Walls of pool could have been cleaner....
