We followed the advice of other tripadvisors and found a wonderful resort. We are in our late 50's so enjoyed the more quiet surroundings and plentiful beach. If you like to watch the cruise ships leave/come in the late afternoon this is the perfect location but ask for a top floor (5th) to have the best view.
We had a PRIVATE 2nd floor rm# 201 oceanfront in the south building. IOt consisted of a very large patio that had 2 straight chairs and 2 lounge chairs and plenty of room left over and also a pool view. The patio was partial shade by some big palm trees and the other half was full sun. In any case, you could see the cruise ships easily and got the prevailing easterly breeeze which is welcome if you're sitting outside.
Inside had a mini refrig, small kitchen area w/sink and dishes for 4, dining table, pull out sofa, 2 living room chairs, double french doors to the queen bedroom, 2 full baths, 2 large TV's amd and nicely decorated.
There are two large pools, many acivities for children and adults, (tennis, shuffleboard, putting green, swing sets, outside pool bar/grill, late afternoon early evening entertainment (poolside), countless pool chairs, restaurants and outside terrace dining.
Keep in mind folks this is a resort so therefore 18% gratuity is AUTOMATICALLY added to your bill for any food/beverage purchases. The resort doesn't accept money until checkout.
This resort is right on the beach so you don't have to cross a busy road. Parking is FREE and plenty of it but there is also a FREE VALET if you prefer.
We have stayed at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort (within 1/2 mile) and found the Largo Mar to be far superior with staff, friendliness, convience to come and go, better pool, huge terraces and much nicer beach.
Las Olas Blvd and the downtown Riverwalk are all within 5 minutes by car. Great restaurants and entertainment in this area. If you are taking a cruise, you're within 10 minutes to the cruise terminals and 15 minutes to airport. If you are a gambler or like to play horse races, GULFSTREAM is about 6 miles south. If you like NUDE beaches, Hallendale is about 6 miles south (just ask around in Hallendale area and you can get directions--).
I would recommend this resort to everyone. PS. Don't be afraid to ask to see a room or two before settleling for one. Remember to tip that person well and who know's, you just might end up with a really nice room....It works every time...
