I have not looked at all the hotel reviews but you have all missed this little gem. It is located off the strip and further down the beach by the Port Everglades. A top notch hotel with great rooms, two pools and a stretch of beach you will never forget. A touch of class in this area. YOu will not be sorry you stayed here.

My husband and I spent 4 days at Lago Mar shortly after the hurricane. The staff was so pleased to have guests back in their hotel. They were friendly and very accomodating. We lucked out and got an ocean front suite. The room was BIG!! We were able to entertain several guests before diner in our room. The bedroom was all Tommy Bahama furniture and very Floridian. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a little small (but their were two of them) The living room was nice but could use a refurbishing. The balcony was big and oceanfront. We had a nice view. The beach is large and nice but was littered and unswimmable from the hurricane. Nice walk to the inlet to watch the boats go by. The restaurant had good breakfasts - buffet or continental. Great pancakes. Diner was good but expensive. There are two pools on the property, both nice. This hotel is really good for families. I was there with my husband only and we never felt disturbed by children as we wanted to relax and be alone. There is miniature golf, tennis courts,shuffleboard and chess on the property.
We would recommend the Lago Mar. But you are not ever guaranteed an oceanfront room. You can be guaranteed oceanview which is quite different.

stayed here the night before our cruise - in one of the executive 1 bedroom suites. Nice balcony for distant views of the sea, firm beds, large bathroom.

property has a spa (did'nt use), 2 pool areas, outdoor bar - beach area.
We had lunch in their restaurant - most excellent cobb salad ever.
Property is located in a quiet residential area - about a $20.00 cab to Las Olas shopping/nightlife/restaurant area.
We regretted we had'nt rented a car - would have been cheaper w/all the cabs we had to hire.
Property also has suites w/full kitchens too.
Its a very Floridian atmosphere - owned by a German - many Germans poolside...
Would highly recommend..

I stayed at the Lago Mar for two nights in October 2005. I went for a business trip and was a little worried the hotel would be over run by families, but luckily it wasn't. Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful (with the exception of a few people). The valets were especially nice. I requested a renovated room with ocean view. The room was huge (executive suite). It could have comfortably accomodated at least 3 adults. Everything was new and neat. I did feel however that the room was not as clean as it could have been. I got a good deal on the room because it was the off season and I used my AAA card. I suggest calling them directly and asking for the AAA discount. The daily breakfast buffet was nice but way over priced. I would recommend leaving the hotel grounds for food. Downtown Fort Lauderdale was only a 5-10 minute drive away. The hotel is on a secluded and private beach. Lago Mar is nice and for the rate I paid it was reasonable.
