Because tripadvisor was so helpful in choosing this hotel and the places we ate, I decided to give back as much as possible by writing a review because all the reviews here made my stay all the more enjoyable.

Luckily we were able to make a reservation about a week prior with the room they had left, a One Bedroom Suite with Partial Kitchen. We stayed for two nights from August 1st to August 3rd. The check-in time is late at 4PM, but we arrived early around 12-1PM and was able to check in early because the room was ready! The German guy who checked us in was really nice and we were really glad we were able to check-in early.

We were really pleased with the nice, clean room. It felt really homey. We felt so comfortable there, the vacation felt a little surreal. It has an old Floridian style. If you're looking for a modern, every other hotel look like the Hilton, then you'll be disappointed. The TV had cable along with other channels like HBO. There was an N64 type system that I guess the kids can use as entertainment, but I think that's an extra charge added to the room. Our bedroom was really nice and the bed was really soft. We liked our bed but if you prefer something more firm, you might be disappointed. In between the bedroom and our full bathroom was a closet with a safe, robes for us to use, extra pillows and blanket, and hangers. The full bathroom had concave vanity mirrors along with a hair dryer, besides what is expected to be there: soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc. There was a partial bathroom that came with the basics. The free wireless internet was very helpful to us also. The partial kitchen included utensils, plates, bowls, and cups. It had a sink with dish washing liquid, a coffee maker with amenities, and a microwave which we did use often along with the small fridge. Next to the partial kitchen was a small dining table that had four chairs and a living room with a big flat screen TV. Our room had a balcony with a nice view of the beach.

We took the most advantage of the private beach with it's clear and warm waters. You can rent chairs and umbrellas, but of course this will be charged to the room also. We were fine with our towels there and no one touched our belongings on our towel. We regret not bringing snorkeling gear to see more of the fishes we saw with our goggles. One thing we did was get up early to see the sunrise. It was really beautiful to see the sunrise over the clear waters of Florida.

We tried the deeper pool (one can call it the adult pool, because it's as deep as 9 feet) and it was ok, but we preferred the beach / ocean more. The miniature golf course there was fun. We didn't take advantage of the room service or had them clean our room, so I can't review the service in this aspect.

With the rest of the hotel, we didn't try the shallow lagoon "kid" pool which went around 3-4 feet deep only. We didn't take advantage of the exercise room, the business type room (I can't remember the official name but there were computers and fax machines there along with internet of course), the spa (the spa provided all of our shampoo, soap, etc.s), four tennis courts (two by the beach / miniature golf area and two on top of the 2 floor parking deck), volleyball area on the beach, table tennis, life size chess set, areas for children (playground areas, because we didn't have children with us), on site hotel restaurants, etc. The reason we didn't eat at the on-site hotel restaurants was because anything bought on the hotel premises except for the gift shop was charged to the room. Any services or food bought was also charged to the room with an additional mandatory 18% gratuity added on to it.

The hotel is in a Very quiet residential area. If you want to eat out or look around, you would most likely need to rent a car (which is what we did) or ask the concierge to get you a taxi for when you wanted to go out. One review here mentioned a Publix nearby to help save on money for food. The Publix was easy to find, only a few miles away and was in a complex with other shops. Half of our meals came from Publix which were mostly frozen or refrigerated foods that just needed to be microwaved to eat. The other places we ate, which was also found through tripadvisor, was Seasons 52 and Le Bonne Crepe. Both were very good and not far from the hotel at all. The most driving we did going one way was 5 miles.

Please refer to the pictures for how our One Bedroom Suite looked, the hotel in general and the private beach.

Having searched for a suitable suite type hotel in Fort Lauderdale for a family of 2 adults and our two children aged 14 and (almost) 12, I came across the Lago Mar. Travelling from Ireland, I was hoping that my choice for the family would be right and thankfully it was. We had a very pleasurable eight night stay in the hotel. The location is in the quieter end of Fort Lauderdale but was within a short driving distance of shops and restaurants. The beach stretches out for miles and is great for an early morning pre-breakfast stroll and indeed on one morning, we got to see baby turtles being carefully harvested out of their sand nest by the volunteer turtle rescue staff. This stretch of beach is part of the turtle conservation area and whilst not too sure of the conservation efforts amongst the sunbeds further up the beach towards town, at least a good effort is being made to protect the wildlife overall. The sea on calm days is wonderful but can get a bit surfy on windy days but overall seemed safe within a 25 feet distance of the shore. The deep pool area, tennis courts, giant chess, pitch and putt and hotel internet access all appealed to our family; and for those with younger children, the other larger shallower pool and play area certainly seemed very suitable. The hotel is beautifully landscaped with plenty of shelter under swaying palm trees and the various food areas, although a little on the expensive side, seemed to be popular. Also worth mentioning is the magnificent hotel lobby. So, all in all a real gem of Floridian charm. Just a word of caution, be clear on the type of room you require, we had an Executive suite which consisted of two double beds in the bedroom but a quick shift of one of the mattresses from the bedroom out to the lounge area on top of the pull out bed had everyone happy. Our kitchen facilities were a bit sparse, just a microwave, fridge (with small top freezer), coffee percolator and cutlery - just enough for breakfast and light lunch. So do go for the full kitchen if you feel you will be doing more family catering as the 18% service gratuity can add up if eating in the hotel. But a definite treat is the breakfast buffet - well worth one try anyway! So, many thanks to all at the Lago Mar, if we find ourselves in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

My wife and I wanted to spend our 1 year anniversary at a special place and it seemed like the ideal place to spend it. I booked a room with a King size bed 3 and a half months in advance. When I got there they gave me room keys to a bedroom with 2 small beds and 2 baths. When I inquired about it up at the front desk the lady didn't apologize she just said thats they didn't have anything available and thats all we could get. Basically a first come first serve? Even with a 3 month reservation. They overcharged dramatically on everything including 7$ for 2 small bottles of water and wanted to charge for using the chairs on the beach. I saw roaches and they missed one day of cleaning out my room.

After reading reviews we stayed at the Lago Mar for 4 nights. What a blessing. The service and locale are outstanding. Very clean pools, good food, and right on the beach. The location is excellent. I agree with this hotel being ranked 4th out of 140+ hotels in Fort Lauderdale
