“Make sure you rent a car if staying here...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

because it's in the middle of a residential (condominium) area. We had a "customer service" problem shortly after arriving. My husband, son, and his friend sat down at an outdoor table at the cafe shortly before 2pm. After 10 minutes, a waitress finally approached them, saying, "We're closed." Apparently they close at 2pm, which made husband mad as he was sure they sat down before 2pm. She did not suggest the soda shop and my husband didn't know it was even there, so he and the kids left the property to try and find a restaurant. The nearest restaurants are at least 3 miles away. You will want to use GPS to find this place, as it's several turns off 1A. The property is beautiful and I was happy to see families with young children and families with teens. There is plenty to do during daylight hours, but I was surprised how dead the place was after dark. The grounds aren't lit. We reserved a standard room and I was very happy with it. It was 50% larger than a typical hotel room with two queen beds. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was a little larger, too. Room had some angled walls and we had a partial view of the ocean, intercoastal, and the cruise ship dock from our balcony.

This resort is one of the few in Ft Lauderdale that is actually directly on the beach. It is located less than ten minutes from the Airport but it feels like you are on a tropical island somewhere rather in the middle of a major metro area. You need to get very specific directions to get there because although it is only a few blocks off AIA it is easy to miss the turnoff and you have to make several left and right turns through residential neighborhoods to get there.

In my opinion Lago Mar is one of the most luxurious and beautiful resorts in Florida. I was there for a business meeting but I took my wife with me which got me some serious brownie points since neither of us expected it to be so nice. We will definitely be back.

We spent 5 days at the Lago Mar with our two children and had a wonderful time. It is a great resort for families. We were lucky to be upgraded to a deluxe suite, which was very spacious and comfortable. The food was ok, but a bit pricey. We had a rental car and were able to eat out and and have food on hand for breakfast and snacks. A highlight of our vacation was a photo shoot with the bartender, Mike. He does great work and the pictures came out amazing. Would definitely considering returning.

This was our 2nd year at Lago Mar and weren't sure if our memories served us correctly in thinking that it was a fabulous place. Indeed. That is, if you are traveling with children.
We stayed in a standard room which was on the cramped side for our family of 4 (kids ages 2 & 5). The room was lovely but we were upgraded last year and found then the separate room was great for when our youngest woke early.
Would recommend traveling during off season. We were there over spring break and found the pool chairs were all reserved by early morning (a shout out to those of you who reserve chairs all day even for children, and don't use them--annoying!!)
No problems with space on the beach. Umbrellas available for $25/day but they are not very close to the water.
The location is fabulous, right on the beach, and the atmosphere is laid back. They clearly have loyal guests who return every year, and it seemed many people traveled in groups.
The playground located right by their bar area is genius, the kids could play while we finished our meals. The food was quite tasty and a nice, albeit simple menu.
Be aware that gratuity of 18% is included in everything; the free parking is incredibly convenient.
If you go for a long weekend, you could probably do without a car, Las Olas is not too far, you could easily cab it for a night out. Much longer stay and a car is probably best.
We enjoyed our stay, the kids had a blast and imagine that we will most likely go back.

My family are members and it is very beautiful. They have two nice pools. Lots of people from other countries, Beach nice, outdoor activities wonderful! The prices are a little high for food. I have not stayed in any rooms but have used all of the other facilities.

I grew up here. My parents always had their guests and work people stay at Lago Mar. The place is just awesome. If you have kids, there is plenty for them to do, and they will be safe. The rooms are beautiful, the beach even more so. The staff is wonderful. And now my daughter works in the Spa as an esthetician/massage therapist. What could be better. I grew up hanging out here, as we used to have a familty membership. I sure do miss that.

Room Tip: For little little kids, where you need to be close ask for a room number 180, 181. They are ground f...

Our family stayed at Lago Mar for two nights en route to the Atlantis in the Bahamas. We chose this resort becuase of it's location and sprawling beach. We weren't disappointed. Although the rooms and commom areas are a bit dated the hotel is charming and clean. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We booked an executive suite for our family of four which included two teenagers. Plenty of space in the room with large bathroom and great view from our 5th floor balcony. It was Easter weekend so the place was packed with tons of small children. Once on the beach though we felt removed from all the madness. The beach is amazing. We rented an umbrella and two beach chairs each day which is a must. The charge is $25.00 per day which seems crazy, but makes senese. If those spots were up for grabs towels would be on them early and you wouldn't get a spot. My biggest complaint is that they only have one waitress working the beach for drinks. She was great, but needed help. Most of the time we walked to the bar to get drinks and would of probably ordered a lot more if someone was readily available. Our extended family who lives in Miami spent the day with us and we were a group of 20. We had space, but no service. All in all it was a great couple of days, but wouldn't need more than that. Perfect stopover if you are traveling to or cruising to another location.
