First before you drive to the hotel, go on to google etc. and get yourself a detailed map. The hotel is located in a residence area.
The hotel was very clean and had large rooms. The bathroom especially grand. There a lighted make up mirror and a shaving mirror.
There is free wireless interect. The hotel has old European feel.
The staff is very friendly. We eat in the dining room and had the Early Bird Special Soup or Salad and a choice of four entree for
$16..99. Yes there is an 18% Gratuity add on to everything.
I brought a bottle of water for $3.50 (500ml) and there was a Gratuity added on to the bill.
ALso ate the Sofa shop, the omelets were done in a microwave.
On our last morning we had a buffett breakfast. Yogurt, cheese,
cold cuts, plus a custom omelet station. Plus you would pancakes as well. The pastry was very limited and stale.
The beach was very wide and good for long walks.
There are play structures for children as well.

Stayed at Largo Mar as a pre to our cruise, next time will stay as a pre and post to our cruise. This is a “family owned” business, which is a plus to me. The complex is beautiful, quiet, and classy all in one. Not cheap but a great value none the less. Directly on the beach, this place is all you could ask for and more, old time Florida. Simply put sheer perfection.

Very courteous reservations staff convinced us to try Lago Mar for a long weekend in February. First impression was of a grand old resort, dated but not shabby. The grounds are lovely and the beach and pools first rate. A note on the "Olympic size" pool: it is just a 20 yard pool, and it is divided in half, making swimming laps impossible. When asked to take down the rope to allow laps, I was informed it was not allowed. So, don't plan on using the pools to do anything but splash around a little. We stayed in a one bedroom in the older section. Yes, it had outdoor entrances and a very old elevator, but the room was nicely done and the view of the pool and ocean very nice. The kitchen was the most disappointing element, very small, dated and equipped with just one knife (and a butter knife at that) and a few utensils. Coffee maker was old and made only very weak coffee. It would have been a nice touch to have hot coffee in the lobby in the morning, too. The nearest Starbucks is a 5-10 minute drive away.
The pool and chairs are nice, the spa small, but adequate. The workout room could have been bigger, but served well enough. The food in the dining room was just okay, but the service was friendly and savvy. The concierge suggested a terrific restaurant for a night out and we loved Grille 66.
I don't think I would hurry back there, but if I were in Fort Lauderdale for any reason, I would be fine with staying there again. Room rates exceeded $400, so I would probably check out the Marriott Harbour Beach next time. But, given that I had read all the Trip Advisor reviews, I was not disappointed.

We recently stayed at Mar Lago with our two young kids (age 2 and 3).

We liked the amazing view from our room of the the beach and ocean; the 1 bedroom suite was very large and laid out well for our family; the beautiful and convenient beach and pool set-up; varied resort menu and really good food; very nice staff; we never had to wait for anything. The location near the end of the Ft. Lauderdale beach and close to the Port Everglades area was convenient and provided plenty of people/boat watching. We also thought the free self and valet parking was nice and easy.

On the other hand, we agree with several other reviews that the resort needs to be updated. We thought the furnishings in our room and throughout many parts of the resort were dated. We thought our room and much of the interior parts of the resort were a bit musty (we are very sensitive to this). We also were surprised with how few other guests were ever around. The front desk told us several times that the resort was sold out for the whole time of our stay but we saw very few other guests using the beach, pool, or dining facilities. (Our preference is for a little more action).

Overall, we did enjoy our stay at Lago Mar.

This is a wonderful and unexpected beach front gem in Fort Lauderdale. The attentive service makes up for the slightly dated rooms. There is a lagoon pool for all ages, and a quiet pool for adults only. The playground on the beach provides a fun spot for children.

This is a family owned property, and they take pride in maintaining a wonderful reputation. We look forward to staying at Lago Mar Resort again.
