I was there with several partners in January of 2008 to help start a business, and my experience was terrible. When our plane landed, after midnight, I expected a shuttle or a limo to be waiting on us, there wasn't. I actually had to call the hotel and ask to be picked up, but it turns out that they don't pick up at the airport, and they charge to take you anywhere. So, we ended up taking public transportation with a driver who barely spoke broken English and drove like a maniac.
When we got to the hotel, they were sold out and they were going to send just me, not my partners, to another hotel for the night. When I asked to speak with a manager, there wasn't one. I demanded the clerk pay for it, and he did. The guy, who looked like the son of Bill Gates, gave me a whole $50 dollars, big wup, I guess for a bribe so I wouldn't tell anyone. I was outside waiting on yet another cab, praying to make it to the other hotel alive, when a homeless person asked me for change. I went back inside and asked for security, but they didn't have security. I guess they don't care about their customers while they are sleeping. The hotel they sent me to was even worse, so I was glad to get back.
The next morning when I got back there my room still wasn't ready. They kept my luggage in a backroom near the bellman, the bellmen were actually very nice, but the one guy should smile more. I ate breakfast with my partners in the atrium which was freezing. The food was bland and tasted like food from a rundown diner. There was no one to take my order, so I had to stand in line and get my food myself. The lines were long and the people in front of us smelled really bad. My partners and I went about our day and my room was finally ready when we returned late that night.
We went to restaurant to eat dinner. The food there was terrible and overpriced but the pool looked nice with the waterfall. I got to my room, about 10 p.m., and I was there for 5 minutes when someone else walked in on me, I raised..... with the manager and got the night for free, which I deserved after what they put me through. The living room was tiny, the a.c. barely got to 60 degrees, and my view was the street outside, which had traffic all through the night and kept me up. They went through a renovation a few months ago I think, but I guess they forgot to replace the sliding glass doors, it was VERY noisy. The balcony could barely fit one person standing up, I guess they don't think people like to sit outside. I changed rooms the next day to an exact replica of the one I had before. This room wasn't much better, but it was quiet, so I roughed it.
I was also there in early august for a family reunion, unfortunately, and everything I said before stayed the same. This time however the restaurant was being renovated, my family and I segerated and had to eat in the pool area with the hundreds of bugs, and a bunch of screaming kids. The food was a lot better this time, but still overpriced. I got a soda from the gift shop, which cost $3.00 and even it tasted old. My children slept on the pullout sofa and when I called housekeeping for a pillow and blanket, it took almost 10 minutes for them to bring it to us. Nearly every night there were a bunch of kids, about 50 or 60, slamming doors and running from room to room screaming in some language I didn't understand. I feared for my safety and the safety of my family. I thought they would have security with all those foreigners there, but once again they didn't.
The last night, I believe it was, after my family's party, which we spent several thousand dollars on, was winding down, a few of us went to the bar to get a drink, but the employee said they were closed and all the liquor was in the back. Behind us was another couple whom they were happy to let pay there bill. I did notice, however, one difference between us and that couple, the color of our skin. We went back to the party and a bunch of us started talking in the atrium. A few minutes later Bill Gate's son came up with some other guy and they yelled at us that we were to loud and to be quiet. I told him what happened at the bar and he acted like he didn't care. I didn't respond to his rudeness and I spoke with a manager in the morning, who gave me a free night.
So, if you like a hotel with no security while you sleep, one that allows homeless people to come in and wander around, one were most of the staff is rude, and the food tastes like garbage, then this is the hotel for you. The only way I will stay here again is if someone pays me.
