I stayed at the Ft. Lauderdale Oceanfront Hotel May 7-9th 2005 and found it to be simple, but nice. The best part of the hotel is the location. The beach is beautiful right across the street and not far from 'Beachwalk' (I think is what is was called), a nice little shopping center with a few popular night spots. I stayed on the 9th floor (room 914) and had a great view of the intercoastal and northward on the beach. Below I read that the pool was always shaded, not true at all. Though I didn't utilize the pool, I was on the beach the entire weekend, everytime I walked to the room between the hours of 9 AM and 4PM, sunshine was abundent at the pool. The pool deck is very large and lots of loungers for sunbathing. It's also nice that they have a little tiki bar at the pool. I utilized their 'gym,' not much to it, just the basic 5 excercise machine you usually see in a small hotel, enough to keep you toned up a during your vacation, also with a treadmill and climber, there was a tv in there as well. The restaraunt looked nice, but I ate at Pusser's, a restaurant at the base of the hotel, not affiliated with the hotel. The view of the beach from the pool deck was very nice.
I was very impressed with Ft. Lauderdale, I had been to SoBeach and was thinking Ft. Lauderdale wouldn't be as nice, but I was so wrong. I now prefer FLL over MIA. I got my reservations through Priceline and paid $65/night, which I thought was a complete BARGAIN considering if nothing else the great location of the hotel.
The room was not bad, but not great. It was TYPICAL of your average BUDGET hotel room at any beachfront location, i.e. Myrtle Beach, VA Beach, Miami, etc. And yes it did get a little loud outside at night, there was a club (Elbow Room) about a block away. You don't hear their music you just hear people walking around the beach screaming every once and awhile. There are plenty of nice casual restaraunts all around Ft. Lauderdale Beachfront Hotel, and Subway was less than a block away, if you happen to be a Jared type. I don't remember any McD's, Burger Kings or Taco Bells within walking distance, I could be wrong though, I was only there 2 nights.
The hotel is fine for families, but if you want a GREAT/discriminating hotel look elsewhere. I would be happy to return to this hotel. As a matter of fact I liked it so much that I went back on Priceline, submitted a higher bid, but ended up at another hotel for a return trip in June. I was a little dissapointed, I would have liked to have gone back. If you're looking for an adequate place to rest your head at night in between your time on the beach or at the pool this place is fine. If you want to feel like royalty and be pampered keep looking. One night I was there they closed the pool and deck area from 4-8 for a wedding, that's not a complaint or a stab at the hotel, just stating that it must be an O.K. hotel if a couple chose to share their vows there.
