I stayed at the Ft. Lauderdale Oceanfront Hotel May 7-9th 2005 and found it to be simple, but nice. The best part of the hotel is the location. The beach is beautiful right across the street and not far from 'Beachwalk' (I think is what is was called), a nice little shopping center with a few popular night spots. I stayed on the 9th floor (room 914) and had a great view of the intercoastal and northward on the beach. Below I read that the pool was always shaded, not true at all. Though I didn't utilize the pool, I was on the beach the entire weekend, everytime I walked to the room between the hours of 9 AM and 4PM, sunshine was abundent at the pool. The pool deck is very large and lots of loungers for sunbathing. It's also nice that they have a little tiki bar at the pool. I utilized their 'gym,' not much to it, just the basic 5 excercise machine you usually see in a small hotel, enough to keep you toned up a during your vacation, also with a treadmill and climber, there was a tv in there as well. The restaraunt looked nice, but I ate at Pusser's, a restaurant at the base of the hotel, not affiliated with the hotel. The view of the beach from the pool deck was very nice.

I was very impressed with Ft. Lauderdale, I had been to SoBeach and was thinking Ft. Lauderdale wouldn't be as nice, but I was so wrong. I now prefer FLL over MIA. I got my reservations through Priceline and paid $65/night, which I thought was a complete BARGAIN considering if nothing else the great location of the hotel.

The room was not bad, but not great. It was TYPICAL of your average BUDGET hotel room at any beachfront location, i.e. Myrtle Beach, VA Beach, Miami, etc. And yes it did get a little loud outside at night, there was a club (Elbow Room) about a block away. You don't hear their music you just hear people walking around the beach screaming every once and awhile. There are plenty of nice casual restaraunts all around Ft. Lauderdale Beachfront Hotel, and Subway was less than a block away, if you happen to be a Jared type. I don't remember any McD's, Burger Kings or Taco Bells within walking distance, I could be wrong though, I was only there 2 nights.

The hotel is fine for families, but if you want a GREAT/discriminating hotel look elsewhere. I would be happy to return to this hotel. As a matter of fact I liked it so much that I went back on Priceline, submitted a higher bid, but ended up at another hotel for a return trip in June. I was a little dissapointed, I would have liked to have gone back. If you're looking for an adequate place to rest your head at night in between your time on the beach or at the pool this place is fine. If you want to feel like royalty and be pampered keep looking. One night I was there they closed the pool and deck area from 4-8 for a wedding, that's not a complaint or a stab at the hotel, just stating that it must be an O.K. hotel if a couple chose to share their vows there.

It's not a great hotel, but my experience wasn't as bad as others. The room was fine, and clean. There were some water stains on the bathroom ceiling, but it's an old hotel. I have no complaints, and would not hesitate to stay here again. By the way, I got on Priceline for about $65 - I wouldn't spend much more than that for it.

A great location on the beach with a lovely outdoor cafe (Pussers). BUT this hotel is situated between Seabreeze Drive and A1A, so there's constant street noise as folks continuously cruise BOTH streets with lound engines -- sometimes until 2AM. The rooms are tired and dated, and there's no stair-well access, so you have to wait for (slow) elevators to get up and down. The pool deck is very nice with a gorgeous view of the ocean, but the pool is located in the shade and is very small for an upscale hotel. The room views are great, but it's expensive overall for the (lack of) amenities.

have never stayed at a worse hotel, EVER. even location is terrible because loud night clubs go until 4am so you can not sleep due to high bass and music. beds worn, rooms musty and damp, floors dirty, service horrible. i would pay them to not make me stay there again. impossible to sleep.

Stayed at the Doubletree oceanfront three nights, pre and post cruise. Although the type room we requested wasn't available when we got there,{late by hours], they had a nice room with balcony available with a discount, and breakfast coupons for two, at the Juan Carlos restuarant, in the hotel. Clean, good sized room with balcony, ocean and skyline view. Coffee maker in room was good for a couple of early morning cups of coffee on our "porch". Thick, white, towels in abundance. Corner room with two walls of glass was availible for last part of our stay. Big room, glass walls reminded me of some of the South Beach hotels. Two sets of drapes to close up room if needed, cool view when sitting on the john, you face straight out at it if the door's not closed ! Did miss the balcony, these corner rooms don't have one. Neither do the direct oceanfront rooms. Nice pool area and hot tub. Also outdoor bar that opens in the afternoon, after the restaurant closes around 2 pm. Older hotel, but recently renovated ? Looked good, and was clean. Location is one block south of Los Olas Blvd., so, easy to walk to restaurants, stores, water taxi, action. Beach across the street. Pussers restaurant/bar at base of hotel; indoor, outdoor dining, it was good. Almost forgot about the Doubletree chocolate chip cookies, they give you a couple at check-in, and anytime you ask, don't be shy, they are awesome ! and warm ! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone staying in ft.lauderdale
