Had made my booking on Hotwire and you are not told of the hotel you would get until you paid for it. I got Days Inn Ft Lauderdale Oakland. So I went to a couple of sites to read the reviews (now mind you I was stuck with this hotel since once you paid Hotwire there is no refund). All the reviews had the hotel as being a crack dump and very unclean. So I was expecting the worst. Even the taxi driver that picked me up at the train station had nothing good to say about the place.

Well I'm pleased to report that when I got there the staff were very friendly and prompt. The reception area was being redone but it was not messy or anything. Check in was handle with out any problems. I had indicated the reviews that I read to the manager and she indicated that the place was previously owned by some one who was not living up to the Day's Inn standard (the previous comments about the place were all true) and they had recently taken over the place (the company she works for) and every thing was being done over.

The room was very clean. Just done over completely. New paint, carpet, sheets,spreads,.... the works. I had a very good stay.

Because of its location it was very easy to use the local bus system to get where ever we wanted to go. And the staff were all helpfull and when out of there way to make our stay a good one.

So I'll say that it was a good deal for the money we paid.

I even think that I would have gotten a better deal if I booked with them directly.

Going to Fort Lauderdale, FL without a hotel reservation is not the brightest thing to do? I arrived at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport Friday evening looking foward to my mini getaway, with no reservation. Made calls to hotels near airport, found out all was sold out. Got in my rental car, and found this Hotel. Dont usually stay in Days Inn, but my only choice that night. Lobby was under construction as I walked in, checked in, and went to my room, thinking how it was look. As Opened the door, i was AMAZED to see how beautiful the room was. Great beds, clean linen, and free high speed internet. I travel to Fort Lauderdale, FL frequently, i be sure to visit that next time I go.

P.S. - Disregard old reviews.......

My fiancee and I just spent a week at this hotel. There are no prostitutes! We felt totally safe. They are still remodeling the office, but the rooms are finished and they are more than great. We paid fifty dollars a night and feel we got a steal. The only drawback is there is a loud train that frequently comes by the hotel, several times a day. The neighborhood is a little scketchy, but it is located literally about a minute from I-95. The hotel is not high class, but for those on a budget who want to stay in the area it is a great value!

When driving into the parking lot the bottom floor doors were standing open, the rooms looked ransacked matresses lying all over the floor bad first impression We decided that I should look at the room before checking in I walked to the office which was a separate building than the motel when I entered the office the first thing I noticed was the were no ceiling tiles and no permanent counters wiring was exposed with the conduit actually holding the light fixtures up after waitng almost 10 minutes for the woman to get off the phone she asked could she help me There was a guy whom I guessed was the manager standing over her shoulder watching and listening to her conversation that never offered to help me or even speak to me while I was waiting I told her I thought maybe I should look at the room before checking in I made a comment about the office and she informed me they were remodeling as we were about to go look at the room a guy came in and she started talking to him asking if she could help him I then stated maybe I should leave and she said no we will look at the room in a minute After wating for the elevator about 5 minutes it finally came down with a rolling trash buggy the elevator almost took my breath the room had a nasty smell to it but hey the matresses were new needless to say I went someplace else

We paid $50 for the night which was the cheapest place in town.

Yes, as other writers report, the place is on the scarry side. Property wise, it is falling apart. Many of the guests are people who probably spent some time behind bars. On the other hand, they do have a rent a cop walking around at night.

Breakfast was the standard cereal, milk, oj, and pastry.

For $50 a night, you get what you pay for.
