I stayed here for one week over the 4th of July. The room was pretty small and dirty - stains on the walls by the bed and on the headboards. The shower was very small, dark, and had moldy grout. There was a mini-fridge, which was clean. The pool was very murky - we opted to cool off using the outdoor shower rather than go in it. Also, we ate at the restaurant the first day, and there was a bug in my food. The waitstaff was fine, and the bartenders and the gift-shop workers were friendly. On the first day we were there, my friend had $260 stolen from her suitcase. We reported it to the front desk, and the attendant merely said he would notify the head of housekeeping. My friend's mother called the hotel that night (we're 23, and they didn't seem to be taking us seriously), and was told that the manager would be in the next day and he would be notified. The next day we filed a police report, and 2 officers came out - the gist of the whole ordeal is, the hotel has an electronic key system, which means that the doors automatically lock when shut, and also that any key used to open the door is recorded. We had gone to the beach at 11:00 a.m. on the day of the theft, and returned at 1:00, which is when my friend discovered that her money was missing. The housekeeper had been in the room between those times. The head of housekeeping told the police that she had a history of stealing money (or of being accused of it) and would consequently be fired. The hotel offered us no compensation, and the front desk and manager were rude both to us and the police. We contacted travelocity, whom we booked through, and all they could do was get the hotel to agree to refund us the remainder of our stay if we chose to leave. However, it being the holiday weekend, we were unable to find a hotel with vacancy in the area. We ended up staying there for the remainder of our vacation, but locked up anything remotely valuable in the room safe (which we weren't notified of nor given the key to upon check-in -- we had to go down and ask for the key after the money was stolen.) The front desk also said after we came back home that the housekeeper had not, in fact, been fired. The police are still investigating the matter. All in all, it was a very sour experience. The last time we came to Fort Lauderdale, we stayed about a mile down the road at the Avalon Waterfront. That was far superior to the Days Inn Bahia Cabana, and I really wish we had re-booked there. Clearly, my advice is do NOT stay at the Days Inn Bahia Cabana. It was shabby, dirty, and not in as good of a location as hotels further up A1A. All of that may have been somewhat excusable, though, if everything else was fine. But the housekeeper's stealing and the managements' subsequent lack of customer service was horrible.
