I had wanted to stay at the Bahaia Cabana for years. Last time in Fort Lauderdale I walked over to look at the facility and thought that it looked like a fun place to stay. I booked online a few weeks ago and was looking forward to staying for the weekend. When we checked in, we were told that our room was located at another building 1/2 block away and was lead to believe it was in our best interest because it was quiet.
There is no kind way to describe the builing--it is an old motel which is now part of the Bahaia Cabana and badly in need of repair. It is a dump. The room has a very old, tiny, bathroom with corroded faucets, one of which could not be turned off. The hot water was so hot that it could easily have burnt you. The air conditioner on high barely cooled the room. Barefoot feet became filthy from the rug. The TV was a 13" television. There was no ice maker. Ice had to be retrieved from the bar 1/2 block away. I felt like I was staying in a tenement but paying penthouse prices.
The food at the Tiki Restaurant was very good and the view very nice. The manager did offer some compensation for the miserable stay. My advice is to look elsewhere or demand to be in the main building.
