Ripped off at Days Inn Bahia Cabana-Ft. Lauderdale, Floriduh
I have stayed at Days Inn before and have found it to be acceptable and favorable. I like Days Inns.
On August 8th I rented a room along with my wife and Grand Daughter. When we arrived at the location, the entire street was packed with cars. I mean the entire street. There is no safe place to drive up and unload. There was no designated spot to park. I parked in the street and unloaded the baggage while my wife checked in. I was a bit nervous observing the traffic at this busy intersection while I blocked traffic. Valet parking was out of the question as I watched a female attendant run over a traffic cone trying to shoehorn a pickup truck into their overcrowded mini-parking lot.
It wasn't long before my wife came out to tell me to load the bags back into the car. We were told to go to the OTHER building. That was the first sign of what was to come. Traveling to the OTHER building was a rude awakening. This is an old apartment building or projects style facility.
Workers there were washing their cars and watching guests in general. OK....
The room smelled good as if it was cleaned. Chemically cleaned. Aside from the usual kitchenette items, table, tv etc., it had everything you would expect in a low budget econo motel except everything was old.
The beds were a disgrace! It was so soft that my wife rolled to the center of the bed. This would be great on honeymoon night as it allowed a couple to be together in the center of the bed regardless of efforts to remain on their respective side. They need to run down to the Salvation Army or Goodwill to purchase some used beds to improve on what is there.
The bathroom door was difficult to close as the door jamb was swollen from decades of wear and rust. Please oil the rusty hinges.
The bathroom has no fan. They didn't have bathroom fans in the 60's I guess. I opened the bathroom window to air out the humidity and there was no screen. I did however have an interesting view of the residential house 20 feet away. I was uncomfortable having the window open knowing that anyone walking by could see in.
The shower curtain mounting brackets were made from a scrap piece of plywood-unfinished. They had screwed 6-7 holes in this plywood looking for a suitable substrate. A couple of lucky screws found its mark.
The ceramic tile flooring was particularly interesting. There was at least 3 different types of tiles in the bathroom. The caulking reminded me of the plastering on the exterior of the building. Quite interesting.
Judging by the incredibly poor walls and painting, I am sure a second grader had at some point tried their hand at remodeling and finishing the interior of this unit.
This room had no central anything. The Air conditioner was embedded in a piece of painted plywood fixed to what must have been some sort of opening in the wall.
The television cable entered at the air conditioner area and snaked around the floor up to the entrance to the bathroom hallway. It cleverly entered the space between tile below the grout, exited and continued along the adjoining wall to the television. Now that is ingenuity.
The carpet needs to be taken to the local car wash and pressure washed. It was filthy. Disgustingly filthy. It was sticky to the touch and I marveled as I observed the run-off in the shower.
The main door had ample security devices however the large space beneath the door allowed enough light in during the day that I was apprehensive thinking what the night would allow in. Walah! A wet towel had a new use. Problem solved.
The microwave, toaster, alarm clock along with the entire room is old, no antiquated. It should be a crime to pretend that the motel is a bargain when it is a rip off. What we got was like a 2 star room in a third world country. This is not a joke. What the motel shows as a furnished room is not what we got. That should be corrected.
It may have been a nice place to stay back in the 60's but get real. It is a dump. And there is no way I will ever go back there again.
This location should not be associated with Days Inn as this building is not up to code and is below acceptable standards.
If you should be so unbelieving as to stay there, ask If your room is in the main building or the projects down the street. Beware! You have been warned!
Signed....Ripped off but never again.
I paid a total of $118.00 and change. Did I get my money's worth? Yeah right!!
Bohica!
